The 49ers this morning made a roster move to compensate for the rash of injuries at the wide receiver position.

The 49ers waived linebacker Ahmad Brooks and promoted first-year player Chris Hannon from the practice squad.

Brooks did not suit up for any of the 49ers' first 11 games. Hannon has been on the practice squad for the entire season.

The 49ers don't expect to have Arnaz Battle (foot) or Josh Morgan (groin) for tomorrow's game against the Bills. Also, Jason Hill is battling a groin strain.

Hannon (6-3, 205) went to camp with the Panthers this past summer and then joined the 49ers practice squad prior to the start of the regular season. Hannon originally joined the Chiefs as a rookie free agent out of Tennessee in 2006. He spent 2006 on the Chiefs practice squad and 2007 on the Carolina practice squad.

I guess you really do have to be pretty bad for the Bengals to give up on you.

Brooks has gobs of talent, that wasn't why the Bengals let him go. Given the Bengals off field problems, I'm sure you can guess why. Perhaps those types of issues made him one of those guys the Singletary "can't play with. Can't win with. Can't coach with."

Matt, why does everyone keep talking about drafting corners and safeties? We have good young talent in T Brown who would have been a first rounder if not for off the field issues,R Smith who plays safety or corner and D Goldson..I would be highly dissapointed if we drft any more D.B'S or L.B's.This team needs a quarterback and defensive lineman.Morgan and Hill are showing flashes of bieng a good W.O tandem next year.Get us a Q.B and offensive coordinator to run the west coast and isnt going to leave after one year and well be fine. This team has no identity since we change imprtant jobs and positions everyyear.Oh yea,its looking like besides Morgan and Rachal this years draft was another wash.Thnks McCloughan.Kentwan Balmer looks like the next Charles Haley!First roung pick for a career special teamer,Yikes!

Oh by the way Nate,is not a bum..Harris has lost his step but Clements is an asset to this team and he would be much better if we had a pass rush and a safety who wasnt backpeddling every play.Even Deon Sanders would get burned with our pass rush and Roman as his safety.

Another dumb move by the 49ers. And Nate is a bum if he lets a player like Owens burn him to a crisp with 7 catches for 213 yards is it? Nate should've been cut after that game, doesn't matter, big 09 cleanout coming up as can't play with em, work with em, win with em players like the Sopoaga, the Franklin, the Walt Harris, the Mike guy in Mark Roman, GONE baby!

Franklin has showed improvement and Walt Harris has yet to lose a step. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Franklin is still a limited one-gapping DT. The Niners have just stopped trying to get him to be the big run-stuffing two-gap NT because he can't do it. He is a very unsatisfactory short-term solution to a long standing problem - a lack of quality in the middle of the Niner defensive line.

Walt Harris is OBVIOUSLY not the player he was two years ago and everyone in SF and the NFL knows it. He still has a decent game here and there but QBs are exploiting him more and more often.

As for Ahmad Brooks... He went from being talked up as getting his chance soon to off the roster in the blink of an eye. Obviously there's more to this story than has come to light. My hunch is, it might not be about football but may be more about off the field issues. The only question is whether the whole story will come out or not.

Matt, stay warm in Buffalo. Have you been to this place?

Great wings...the originals.

Have a good trip.

Darren,at least through all this lowsy football, reading your posts make me realize there are bigger morons than the ones running my beloved Niners!Keep em coming baby you make me laugh.Cut Clements? So if it were up to you the Niners would be blacked out or playing in L.A ,Alice Smith would be our qaurterback and Nate Clements would be cut...Man you sound like the second coming of Bill Walsh!Hahaha...Try Lowells blog, youd fit right in over there.

Matt do you know if we are still getting new uniforms next year? You're great.

As a longtime fan I have to admit the 9ers are irrelevant and boring. I see no signs of any chance of being in contention...really poor management, gm...etc. I like coach MS but the draft has been a total waste for years. I'm a Lakers fan too so at least I have one team to root for that has a chance (Warriors are right in there with Raiders and 9ers with loser owners). They were crappy for a few years but the ownership gets it back in a few years. The 9ers ownership will never get it back because they never had it in the 1st place...totally clueless.

"Brooks did not suit up for any of the 49ers' first 11 games."

Although true, isn't this a little misleading as the 49ers only recently picked him up?

The 49ers claimed Brooks off waivers from the Bengals on Aug. 31. He was on the 53-man roster for the 49ers' first 11 games, but he did not suit up for a game. --Matt M.
