We turn our attention off the field to give a brief look at the stadium situation.

The 49ers remain focused on getting a stadium built in Santa Clara. They hope to have a formal financing agreement completed early next year. Later in 2010, they hope to have an enviromental review completed, and get voter approval.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco is moving forward with their bid to keep the 49ers.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has approved a resolution endorsing the funding plan for the redevelopment of Candlestick Point and Hunters Point Shipyard as authorized by city voters earlier this year.

According to Lennar, the planned development would provide 7,500 permanent jobs, 10,500 new homes, 300 acres of parks and open space and a new stadium site at Hunters Point Shipyard for 49ers.

Lennar has promised to pay $100 million to the 49ers to help finance the cost of building a new stadium at Hunters Point Shipyard. The environmental clean-up of the stadium site is scheduled to be performed in 2009, which would allow the 49ers to complete construction of a new stadium by 2013 if they accept the city's offer, Lennar says.

Lennar said it will also develop the stadium site's utility and transportation infrastructure and specialized grass parking lots, which will be used as athletic fields on non-game days.

I wonder if eminent domain is a possibility. I know Oakland tried and failed to keep the Raiders from moving to LA.

I hope the organization abandons this disorganized effort to move the team to the suburbs. Let the city and Lennar do all the work, since you can't do it yourselves, Yorkies.

Just read an interesting article. Sorry for the change of topic Matt. This is the guy who's PROVEN that should be our new trigger man...SCOTT PIOLI. Like the read says Jed should at least make the call. Long shot I know since Jed already has his Scotty security blanket wrapped tightly around him. Yeah it's probably only a pipe dream but what the h***, here's the link.

In this economy? I think any plans for development at Hunter's Point is DOA for a while along with Santa Clara. Yesterday the Thunder Valley Casino stopped construction on a one billion dollar expansion. SF & Santa Clara County will be lucky to make payroll!

IIRC, San Francisco (thru its Water/Hetch-Hetchy Dept) has a water pipeline (& pipeline easement with the right to prevent most uses of the surface of the land) smack dab thru the middle of where the Santa Clara stadium is proposed. Meaning, the stadium can't be built without consent of Sand Francisco, unless Santa Clara (somehow, inexplicably) has the right to use eminent domain for a private commercial endeavor. . . . How come I never hear this easement problem discussed when the stadium comes up?

Mike Josh McDaniel would be on my short list right now, so why not Pioli?
Good point, but I'd guess Jed and Dr Dad wouldn't be paying Scot to leave too?
Face it, we've fallen and we can't get up.

The 49ers stink. Why does a new stadium stadium even make it to this website?
A new stadium hurts all the current season ticket holders, and benefits only the Yorks, as a business investment, as well as other business interests. A new stadium, wherever it is, means the season ticket holders pay more, have to buy a seat "license" on top of the ridiculous price for the ticket, and worst of all, the long time "faithful" won't get seats as good as the ones they have now. Everyone (the FANS) has been sold on the idea that a new stadium helps the team. DUH.
The only thing that will help this team is new ownership.

The 49ers play in the absolute worst stadium in the NFL. If you don't think that hurts the team in signing free agents or hurts their ability to compete then your wrong. I understand it will cost long time season ticket holders more money. However, thats reality in every other NFL city in America. If you don't like it, become a soccer fan.

San Francisco isn't Houston, Houston 9er, with all due respect. It's a tough place to build given the electorate of progressive San Francisco. The baseball Giants built their own stadium on city land, which they lease. The stadium helpd revitalize an underperforming district. As a SF native, I applaud SF for what it did there.

Personally, I see the current SF offer (assuming it's a legitimate offer, not a conceptual pie-in-the-sky based on taxpayer money) as a good deal for the team and The City.

If the 49ers take it, great. If the 49ers are determined to move to Santa Clara, it's not good but it's better than moving out of state and someplace even further.

Marc - good call. I love that option. A Pioli/GM & McDaniels/HC duo are you kidding me?? The great thing about that team is Pioli. I have tons more confidence in him than I do with McCloughan. If McDaniels doesn't pan out as a 1st time HC we would keep our GM intact & he could select another HC if need be. I've heard nothing but good things about McDaniel's & IMO would be worth the risk of giving him his opportunity.

It is going to take more than a year to clean that site up to levels allowing for its use as a playing field. Heck, it will take a year just to remove the soil to a certified hazmat landfill and replace it with clean dirt.

I'm a native of Santa Rosa and I lived in SF for many years. "electorate of progressive San Francisco" -- give me a freaking break you pompous ass. The 9ers have been trying to get a new stadium for over 10 years. You either want the team to stay in SF or you don't. Cut through all the political agendas and get something done. A toxic waste site isn't the answer. All I'm saying is pay up or lose the 9ers.

This Stadium is a MUST for the 49ers to survive in San Francisco, otherwise it's LA here the 49ers come. This Santa Clara thing is a JOKE, the 49ers would have the CROWNE JEWEL Stadium of the NFL on Hunter's Point just like the Giants do in Baseball and keep the Northern Bay Area 49ers Fan Base intact.
