The 49ers continue to call it a game-time decision, but running back Frank Gore has gone two full weeks without practicing due to a left ankle sprain.

He did not practice today, and he's officially listed as "questionable" for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. In the chance Gore suits up for the game, it seems unlikely he would have a big role in the game.

Look for DeShaun Foster to get his second start -- or at least a lot of playing time in Sunday's game.

Right tackle Adam Snyder saw limited practice, and is also listed as questionable. Look for Barry Sims to get his first seventh start of the season.

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks has not played in a game this season. He won't play Sunday, either, as a back injury has him listed as questionable.

The following players are listed as probable:

DE Ronald Fields (foot-limited practice)

S Michael Lewis (abdomen-full practice)

WR Josh Morgan (head-limited practice)

S Mark Roman (head-limited practice)

PR/KR Allen Rossum (ankle-full practice)

T Joe Staley (ankle-full practice)

A league spokesman said the NFL did not fine Miami's Joey Porter for his actions during warmups prior to Sunday's game. It appeared as if Porter tried to antagonize 49ers tight end Vernon Davis into a confrontation when he wandered over to the 49ers' side of the field.

Is Clayton playing? Get him the ball. He proved that he deserves a shot with his play in the pre-season. Let him show what he can do in a real game.

Q: Is Clayton playing?

My response: Running back Thomas Clayton suited up for Sunday's game in an emergency role. He did not play against the Dolphins. If he suits up in St. Louis, Clayton will probably will have similar emergency-only responsibilities. --Matt M.

That was a great education site, but the transcript of the conversation was a bit hard to read. But I was surprised to learn that VD was an art major of all things. Matt, you should check out some of his art and tell us about it sometime.

Is Goldson good to go?

Q: Is Goldson good to go?

My response: It is my understanding that, yes, he is ready to play again after missing seven games with a posterior-cruciate tear. --Matt M.

Gore's injury is really affecting my Fantasy playoff hopes...
Clayton has not earned a chance to play. Foster has. Period. When the 9ers are up 30 pts in the 4th quarter, let Clayton play.

If we had Merton Hanks on this team, we would have 4 more victories. New England, Miami, New Orleans, and AZ. If Roman could get his hands on a ball the way 36 did, teams would be very wary of just throwing it up top all day.

Goldson hasn't really shown much either. He got roasted in the first couple of games as much as Roman. He does seem to show up around the ball a bit more, but it goes for naught if we can't ge tht turnover.

SEE ED REED

Foster played pretty well against Miami, meaning no fumbles and decent numbers. I didn't see anyone comment that not having Gore was the reason we lost last week, and when you think that he is by far our best offensive player, it speaks well for Foster and the OL.
It's way too early to know if Goldson is or isn't a better answer at Safety.
Matt- Some great articles this week. From the OL analysis to the love story to the Alex Smith story. You've exceeded even your normal high standards! Thanks.

Well, if we had Joe Montana, Dwight Clark, Jerry Rice, Tom Rathman, Ronnie Lott, Eric Wright, Keena Turner, Fred Dean,...

Can anyone see a similarity between Ed Reed and Nate Clements?
A ball hawk is a ball hawk.
Nate also happens to be an excellent open field tackler and won't fade in run support.
Use Goldson at SS, he can hit and has good wheels, (when healthy of course).
I see this as a way to keep a talented CB on the field while allowing him to improve the S concerns we have.
This also provides room for Reggie to work with him in the CB slot while also giving him veteran leadership on the job.

Whoa? Art students teaching English?
I'm thinking Vernon should be teaching inner peace and how to channel negativity in stressful moments of an NFL game into positive production by focusing on getting back to the huddle without talking smack and getting flagged.
Granted, it takes a pretty unique individual to practice a fine motor skill like painting while also doing combat on a football field for a living.
But hey? Different strokes for different folks right?

If the niners had all those guys then the niners would have a really old team

I know this is juvenile but I wish the entire team would have risen up against Porter during the pregame and delivered a good old fashioned beat down. A player comes to your side of the field to disrespect a teammate and you sit and watch it happen. That just doesnt sit well with me. Damn the fines. Damn the penalties. Damn the coaches. Vernon Davis shoudn't have to say a word. The entire offense and defense should have crushed Porter to the point that he couldn't play in the game. I wonder what the defense of Ronnie Lott, Kevin Fagan, Keena Turner, and Michael Carter would have done if Porter pulled those antics on one of their teammates. Bill Walsh used to say that players don't play hard for coaches or family. They play hard so they don't let their teammates down. Some teammate when they don't even have your back during warmups.

yea I sort of agree houston, that's the kinda stuff that clears out dugouts in Baseball. But the niners ahd planty of opportunities to get back at porter making him eat turf and all that. too bad he finished the game with that sack, but they did such a good job shutting him down all game, he had to pick on a back up RT and that has to shame him some since Simms did pretty well on him most of the game too.

Good point Houston but that's exactly what the officials should be doing during the warm ups.
If the clown infringes on your space he should be escorted off the field or penalized in some way.
Old school says defend your turf, but the turf belongs to the officiating and this year, more than any I can remember, shows how off target these guys really are.
I almost suspect that instant replay has paralyzed these guys to the point where they're fearful to make a call.
The Commish should brought out on this one and a fine handed down because there's no accidental way of forgetting where you belong during warm ups.
His motive was deliberate and should be challenged.
That being said, Shield_Battery hit it too, he got beat down by Vernon when it mattered between the lines.

Matt: "Running back Thomas Clayton suited up for Sunday's game in an emergency role. He did not play against the Dolphins. If he suits up in St. Louis, Clayton will probably will have similar emergency-only responsibilities."

I wonder about Clayton not even playing on special teams. There got to be a reason. Is he that bad?

Matt:

Do you think the loss of a qualified Full Back has hurt our running game this year?

Is Reggie Smith available to play safety? I assume they will put Clayton in if they get a substantial lead against the Rams. They must not have a very good opinion of Clayton.

What is the deal with Morgan? i was so excited to see this kids potential, but he cant stay on the feild. What is this head injury? I cant remember the last time he was healthy, i think it was the end of July... i hope next year goes better for the kid! Morgan hill n Johnson in 09 i would take that!

Also,
There seems to be a lot of hype about getting Thomas Clayton out there. Im not sure i understand why. i would agree that at this point of the season with Gore injured why not give him a shot, i get that. But the way people talk about him sometimes you would think he was drafted on the first day. This guy is a 7th rd draft pick and ppl are surprised he isnt doing well. He was passed up over 200 times. there is probably a reason he isnt comming around.

Josh Morgan..Head?Is this guy another Jonas Jennings???Jeez lets hope we get Crabtree in the draft WE NEED AN OUTSIDE THREAT...Gore only needs 20 something yards to break the record of three 1000 yard seasons hope he can come back against Washington...

A few points on your comment. Porter has a history of pulling these antics. In fact, Singletary warned VD the night before the game that Porter would probably do something in warmups. The league has never punished Porter for his pre-game BS. If you know the league won't do anything then it's up to the players to take care of business. Like I said my opinion is somewhat juvenile on this. It's the same part of most men who want their sons to exercise playground justice on bullies. You know the right thing is to wait for the teacher to stop the bully. Yet you still want your son to stand up for himself so the bully backs off permanently instead of only when the teacher is around.

They're not pre-schoolers. They're grown men and professionals who chose to ignore the idiot. The Pats or Bears would have probably done the same.

If it were high school football or maybe college... I think it would have been a different outcome.

Houston, I'm old school myself, agreed, the torment doesn't stop until you take it on face to face. My beef is with the league and the selective punishment system.
Our beloved commish is quick to grab headlines with clowns like PacMan when the NFL shield is tarnished in the public eye but refuses to enforce the taunting rules when it's blatantly obvious as in this case.
We're all big boys of course, but when the league is as vocal about gamemanship as they claim to be, and they hand out fines for questionable hits, or, as in our case, take a Draft pick for making a phone call to Lance Briggs and/or his agent, then have the nuts to to knock this clown down a peg and have him miss a big game for being an idiot and see if that knocks him back a step?
Writing a check is too easy for these overpaid 'look at me types' like Joey Porter.
Pretty soon the WWF and the NFL will be harder and harder to separate.
Vernon showed maturity in this instance and is likely to draw enough scrutiny himself in the future for losing his cool in the heat of battle, but pregame woofing in this instance was all about crossing the boundary the league is supposed to enforce.
If you aren't going to provide a visiting team with some degree of seclusion to work on pregame prep, then let them all be unsupervised and play street ball before the cameras are permitted to be turned on.
Unfortunately, clowns like Joey and T.O. get way more media coverage then they deserve for things that have nothing to do with gamesmanship.
I'd rather see him get lit up in pregame myself since it won't cost penalty yards when the clock is running,
I'm just tired of the word officiating when it used as selectively as it is.
You spit in my face, I rip you a new one. Except in the NFL.
