The Jaguars plucked defensive lineman Attiyah Atiyyah Ellison off the 49ers' practice squad. The 49ers filled the opening by signing fullback Carl Stewart, an undrafted rookie from Auburn.

Depending on where you check, Stewart is anywhere from 225 to 254 pounds. Stewart did not carry the ball for the Buccaneers in the exhibition season.

Ellison was inactive for all 16 games last year while on the 49ers' 53-man roster. This year, he's been on the practice squad from Week 1.

Hopefully this Stewart is related to the Stewart they got in Carolina.

Speaking of the practice squad, who's expected to get the axe to make room for Clayton this weekend?

You're the best matt! haha. there goes the fullback spot I was interested in. I was just thinking about how gore really hasn't had someone he could just tail around until he breaks out into the secondary. seeing gore crash the pile all the time is kinda worrisome because this week he sprained his ankle, sounds like a bad one. and a couple weeks before he hit the pile so hard he got woozy, and had a "non-concussion". The niners don't need another running back to run tandem with gore because he's the everydown type of back like portis, but I just think he needs some bigger help to crash the pile, hopefully stewart shows some good moves on the practice squad and gets promoted to full time next season.

Hey Matt what happened to Louis Holmes? He looked good in preseason and then was released from the practice squad. Is there a chance he is resigned to the p squad or brought back next year?

My response: Holmes is a guy the 49ers thought had a ton of potential. But he spent just one week on the practice squad before he was waived on Sept. 8. Some guys really take it as a challenge when they're placed on the practice squad to work hard and get better every day. There were some issues with Holmes, as far as his showing the commitment the 49ers wanted to see. I haven't heard anything about them re-signing him at the end of the season for a spot on the team's 80-man offseason roster. --Matt M.

Well Holmes is my little cousin. He has potential to be the best at whatever he wants to accomplish.I think when its his time to be placed he will, and will do a wonderful job.
