Mike Singletary is at the NFL owners' meetings, where today ESPN's Mike Sando caught up with him during the breakfast session with NFC coaches.
It was reported that receiver Brandon Jones did not get "high marks" from the coaching staff before the club signed him as a free agent.
Said Singletary on the subject: "I just knew the minute I heard it, who said it. It wasn't a matter of going to the guy and saying, 'Hey, keep your mouth closed.' It was just, 'Hey, guys, come on now. Let's let that go. We're not all going to agree. If you think that was bad, wait till the draft.' "
That comment drew a few chuckles from the assembled media.
Singletary said he has the power to make changes to his staff, but he added, "there is not one coach that I have that I wouldn't keep."

LOL, what did he mean about the Draft Comment?
Nm, I got it. I just thought he meant we have bad draft selections, but I realized he just meant that not everyone on Draft day is in agreement on the picks.
After the draft, some people will think it was even worse than signing Brandon Jones. That's how I understand him.
Hey Matt- Given that Singletary knew it was Sullivan who made the Jones leak, it seems likely it was also Sullivan who leaked the pants-dropping to the AZ radio station, given Sullivan's history in AZ. Combine that with the way Sullivan treats receivers he doesn't like (see Lelie, Ashley), how can Singletary want to keep him? Sing will either have to take away his authority with Jones or not play Jones, neither of which would make for a good situation. I don't see how that situation is tenable - I'm sure Sing won't mind overruling Sullivan, but wouldn't that make Sullivan an ineffective coach?
For a coach who is supposed to be highly regarded, Sullivan has done NOTHING with the receiving corps since he's been here. Ridiculous when he's most known for ratting out the head coach rather than developing his position players. Get rid of him.
Donald Strickland signed a three yr deal with the Jets.
"Sullivan has done NOTHING with the receiving corps"
Word. I think it's time for this guy to go. Or maybe the team should sign David Boston and make it all better.
I see too much improvement from Hill and Ziegler (and promise from 5th rounder Morgan) to say that he's done nothing with the WR corps. It's tough to comment and have a firm opinion on our end, guys. What we know of the relationship between Sing and Sullivan is .0001% of their interactions.
Matt, txniner raises a question I been wondering about for awhile too. Sullivan hasn't appeared to have done much at all to improve the receiving corps since he's been here so what does the "highly respected" refer to when they talk about him. We've heard about guys not playing because they don't run good routes and other iffy reasons, so what's his story????
Comment: Donald Strickland signed a three yr deal with the Jets.
My response: Yes, profootballtalk is reporting he has agreed to terms:

I'm mildly surprised Strickland won't be back with the 49ers, but the 49ers have been very consistent when it comes to free agency. They know which of their own they want to re-sign at what price. And if they don't have an agreement in place already by the start of the signing period, it's been a pretty good indicator that the player is going to move on. --Matt M.

My response: Great question. But I think everybody is professional enough to start with a clean slate. Remember, Singletary claims he wasn't necessarily high on Patrick Willis before he was selected. --Matt M.
Thanks for the response, Matt! But if everyone were professional enough to start with a clean slate, I'm pretty sure they would have been professional enough not to complain to the media, possibly twice!
Reminds me of a brat that does not get his way so he whines to mommy. If he has a problem with Coach Singletary he needs to grow some nuts and voice his concerns directly to his face. If I was a player and this guy was my coach I don't know how much respect
I could have for him.
Who knows more about wide receivers than anyone on the 49er staff?
