Day 6, practice 11: Jones sustains shoulder injury
Receiver Brandon Jones did not return to practice this afternoon after landing hard on his right shoulder on an attempted diving catch in the end zone during 7-on-7 passing drill.
Jones did not return to practice, and ice was placed on his shoulder. The team said the initial diagnosis is a right shoulder sprain. Jones has been one of the top performers in camp through the first six days. He will be re-evaluated in the morning.

Coach Mike Singletary was not originally scheduled to speak with reporters today, but he was made available to address a couple notable topics.
He said he has not spoken to Michael Crabtree since the beginning of camp, and he has no information about Crabtree's cousin and adviser threatening a holdout.
"I have not, and it's just one of those things, there's really nothing new on this side," Singletary said. "I'm really excited about him as a football player, excited about what he'll bring to this team. That's just the business side of it. His agent, our negotiators have to work it out."
Also, Singletary said he was disappointed in Vernon Davis for a few swings at linebacker Marques Harris during the morning practice. Singletary said the team has too much to accomplish to waste time scuffling on the practice field.
Plus, Singletary said he holds
"I love Vernon Davis. Everybody thinks I have the guy. I love the guy. I'm so thankful he's on our team. The guy has so much passion and nobody works harder than he does. But it's just one of those things, he's continuing to understand I look at him as one of the leaders of our team. And that (fighting) is unacceptable. I need him to lead in his actions as much as he does when he's playing. And he's going to do that."

The passing game was not nearly as sharp as it has been in recent days, but both Alex Smith and Shaun Hill led the offense on touchdown drive in the two-minute offense.
OK, actually it was the 1 minute, 47-second offense. That's the situation the offense faced, taking over at their own 40-yard line with one timeout.
Smith completed eight of 10 passes for about 65 yards. He hit
Hill then matched Smith with a scoring drive of his own. He connected with Dominique Zeigler on a 5-yard scoring pass with :17 remaining. He hit J.J. Finley for 15 yards, Zeigler and Arnaz Battle for 13 yards apiece on back-to-back plays. Hill completed 6 of 7 passes.

Going against the wind earlier in practice, Michael Lewis caught up to a deep ball from Alex Smith intended for Zeigler. Then, Hill tried his luck with a deep pass to Zeigler, and Bly broke up the ball that was noticeably held up in the wind. Micheal Spurlock made a nice one-handed catch of a Hill pass across the middle.

Backup safety Mark Roman nearly had an interception. He got both hands on a Hill pass for Jason Hill in the back of the end zone but could not secure the catch.

We're getting towards that hump/stretch in camp where the players are getting a little too anxious, they want to hit the live-playing-field.
-Thankfully Sing is there to hold them back and let them realize: "not yet, we still have a lot of work to do." If Nolan was still here he'd be cheerleading them into an emotional/misleading breakdown after their first major loss of the season.
"Mark Roman nearly had an interception. He got both hands on a Hill pass for Jason Hill in the back of the end zone but could not secure the catch."
Haha. Poor Mark Roman. He's the kid out in the outfield thinking "don't hit it to me, don't hit it to me, don't hit it to me..."
Can't wait for the time when we'll see Goldson and Taylor at the safety spots and finally have some range at the position and actually be able to let our corners gamble a bit without fear of giving up the big play if they miss.
Matt,
Hi Matt. Im going to be at practice at 800am on saturday. What Do you think they will be practicing that morning? Would it be safe to yell at patrick willis?
Can I get your autograph that day too?
Goldson still has everything to prove, Roman's already in midseason form if that superb AP photo of Brandon Jones is any indication, and Michael Lewis much as I like him cannot be counted on forever. Maybe the draft gods have a safety in the 49ers' stocking come 2010, with those 2 number ones.
Do I smell the second coming of Montana/Young? Do I?!?
No, no I don't. It does sound like we'll have two solid options, though.
Is it true that ex TTU star Dave Parks is also advising Michael Crabtree?
Here is hoping Brandon Jones didn't hurt himself badly...I keep hearing his name mentioned as a standout in camp!
Mark Roman almost had an interception! That is news!
what happened to Jason Hill? is he in danger of being cut? thanks for the answer.
I normally dont like to post links but I'm going to today. The link below is to a very long article about Crabtree's "adviser", David Wells. For my 2 cents, I read the piece expecting to really dislike his adviser. I came away thinking the guy is a survivor in a very tough business. He's definitely an unsavory character with some ethics issues but some of the complaints against him just sound like sour grapes to me. It is concerning to have a young man who's about to be a millionaire surround himself with hangers on who may not have his best interests at heart. I still think Crabs is a good kid who is in the shadow of people many of us may not like. Hopefully, he'll figure out how to be his own man at some point. He's still very young though.

Yes, that is news. Actually, it's an improvement!
"Don't hit to me, don't hit to me..."
Hahaha! That's classic.
lisa goodwin is hot....
Why all this anti-Crabtree and his agent info on the board? Yesterday on ESPN NFL Live Matt Millen & Herm Edwards both said Parker is a good agent who works well with teams. He is well respected and professional. Dealing with him isn't any different than other agents. Both Edwards and Millen said Crabtree is just doing what the other 5 drafted in front of him did. And both said Crab is very talented and was one of the best players in the draft.
This sure sounds like the 49ers Management has quite a PR campaign going on against Crabtree and his agent. I would like to hear from his actual agent not some relative.
All of this seems too one sided. Why are we siding with Billionaires so easily? It is just a contract negotiation and 5 other players in front of him haven't signed either!
Marco, the problem people are having with Crabtree is that he's supposedly demanding Top 5 money, when he was drafted 10th, with the working theory that he should have went higher. That's where people get their anti-Crabtree/Parker sentiment from.
Personally, I don't really care. While I do think rookie salaries are ridiculously large, leading to a lot of players who were drafted high but turned out good-but-not-great to be labeled busts, I do understand every player and agent wants to most they can get. That's business, and business is like an orgy full of tops: each party involved are trying to f*** every other party involved, while at the same time trying to avoid getting f***ed.
uhhhhhh.... ok. I've seen some wild simile's on this site but I have to say you win the prize for the most "adult".
well written....
Crabtree has disaster written all over it. For some reason this whole possy-making-comments business reminds of pacman jones and other players in that domain. We might as well give him number 81 jersey...here comes the next prima donna! Sit his ass down and let him reenter the draft in 2010. We don't need this kind of garbage on our team.
Remember that Crabtree himself has said NOTHING all this time. He has handled himself with class ,so far,as have the Niners. All the hot air is coming from The media and one cousin.
Crabs will probably sign this coming week and he will be able to say he just followed his agents advice and kept his mouth shut and all will be forgiven,if there was anything that he did to need forgiving, which there isn't. Sounds like a smart kid to me.Once he starts catching TD passes in the future, this will not even be an after thought(except to finally teach some of you how the media just makes things up and blows hot air,for their own purposes, and not just in the sports area of reporting).
Not you Matt, you are pretty restrained and much more carefull than most of your brother media types !).
