UPDATE: The 49ers reached an agreement on a one-year contract with free-agent cornerback Eric Green, National Football Post reported. Green, a fifth-year pro, signed with the Dolphins this offseason after spending his first four years with the Arizona Cardinals.
The 49ers must create a spot on their 80-man roster for Green. The 49ers informed fullback Zak Keasey they will release him with an injury settlement, a league source said. Keasey is expected to miss 8 to 10 weeks with a broken forearm. The 49ers have the option to re-sign Keasey later in the season.

Coach Mike Singletary was pleased with what he saw from these two days of practices against the Raiders.
The 49ers' defense was very impressive, as the Raiders really had a difficult time completing passes. (In particular, Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell really, really struggled.)
In the afternoon practice, Reggie Smith and Marques Harris recorded interceptions. Harris' interception came on the final play of the session - a fitting conclusion to the four-practice set.
Here's what Singletary had to say before boarding a bus and returning to 49ers headquarters in
--"Before coming here we talked as a group about coming here and accomplishing the things we needed to accomplish, in terms of the work that we needed to get in these two days. (It was a) great opportunity come and work with a team that has a tremendous amount of talent, and get (here) and see how where we fared working with another team. And I think we got a lot of good work on both sides of the ball and I'm pleased coming away from this. We made some progress and that's what we have to do each day. Just continue to get a little bit better to get where we need to go."
--Singletary spoke about the bizarre morning practice, during which the 49ers' thoroughly dominated with interception after interception after interception after . . .
"You know what? It was the combination of some things," he said. "Our guys for the most part were really executing their techniques, and I think when you do that good things happen. For a while we really kind of got in a zone and our guys were just . . . it just started happening. Things just started happening and that's what happens when you're working your tails off and good things start to happen. I think it was good this morning. At the same time, you just have to put it in perspective. This is a talented football team. And we get back home and continue to get the work done that we need to prepare for this preseason game and get ready to go on Saturday."
--The general perception is that Shaun Hill might have made a move to separate himself from Alex Smith in the quarterback competition. Singletary, of course, is not going to name a "leader" until he names a starter at some point in the future.
Q: How did Shaun look these last two days? Did he take some strides forward?
Singletary: "I thought he did a good job. I think Shaun did a good job of getting the ball out and making some good decisions. I thought Alex did some nice things as well, but Shaun did do a good job."

And that's it from

Matt, how did the pass rush look?
I read somewhere that Manusky was surprised to hear that Singletary called the pass rush "non-existent." That's alarming.
We signed Eric Green!
Thanks for the great info MM. I would like to think I'm cautiously optimistic about this team, but its hard not to get excited about the progress.
Sounds like Singletary has made up his mind at QB. I really hope manusky has some kind of defesive scheme in his back pocket cause I'm tired of seeing the Warners, and Hasselbecks of the NFL have 300+ yard games against us. We got too much talent in the secondary to put it all on them. I'm happy to hear all those picks though.
This team is starting to jell. Pay attention to what Mike said about the momentum that comes from early success, especially takeaways. I watched those Bear teams go from Good to GREAT and that is what did it. Eventually, opposing teams offenses just wanted to survive playing that defense. Defeating it wasnt even a goal. Today the 49ers took a step forward.
I'll say this....the whole season will turn on the very first game of the season for this team. Go to Arizona and stomp em, 12-4. Win a close one, 10 or 11 wins. Lose a close one, 9 or 8 wins. Get stomped, 6 or 7 wins at best.
The ball is in your hands, Niners!
Matt, thanks for giving us a minds-eye view of the practices. I am curious to know if the Niners have a back-up plan in case the pass rush has another poor showing on Saturday against the Raiders. Any word on Jay Moore' camp showing? If healthy, he may be a pleasent surprise.
Thanks again Matt!
I sure hope Smitty plays good saturday! im a huge fan so im behind our team no matter who is the starter. but im a smitty fan wish he would make it! GO SMITH!!
Absolutly incredible to hear about such a great practice and Hill taking the charge at QB.... I cldnt be more jacked!!
But Matt interesting to hear bout all these picks and no talk of Goldston... is he looking alright?
Eric Green???? Another CB???? I guess the niners feels the D- line doesn't need any help.
I'd be curious from Matt's perspective on the confidence level of this years team. Every year every team talks confidently, but there is a difference between real confidence and pseudo confidence. It seems this years team has real confidence, but we'll know more after the 2nd game. It seems like this year the confidence is born from execution vs. hope.
Look forward to finding out.
let's just make it official and name shaun hill the starting qb. i can't believe singletary is dragging this stupid competition on and on and on. the writers see, we see it, the public see it, the players see it, hell, singletary see it! and u know jimmy raye sees it! this is a waste of time of not getting shaun to run the 1st team permanently and get in some serious reps!
Sorry if it's considered unrelated. but did Jeff Garcia practiced against the 9er defense?
Sorry if it's considered unrelated. but did Jeff Garcia practice against the 9er defense?
Interesting fact: During the 2008 season Shaun Hill scored 15 Touchdowns (rushing + passing) in only 8.5 games.
Shaun scored only one TD less than Alex did within eight games in 2008, that took Alex 16 games to obtain a season total of 16 TDs in 2006 (and that was during Smith's most healthy/promising season, along with 16 interceptions).
Of course we're talking about 2 totally different teams between Shaun and Alex, but you just cannot turn a blind eye, Shaun Hill is literally the Chad Pennington of the NFC right now.
Just curious, if Sing doesn't see any major improvements in the pass rush in game 2 any chance we make a move for a guy like Peppers? Obviously it would be a hefty price to pay... But with our DB's playing as well as they have, couldn't a solid pass-rush put us over the top (defensively at least)?
NT, NT, NT!! If we can find us a real legit starting NT somewhere we would be deep in having the prototype 3-4 DE's. It would be great to bring in 2 (even 3..but I doubt we will since Soap can be an emergency 3rd) NT's since we're COMMITTED TO THE 3-4. Then you could slide Franklin & Sopoaga (who prefers DE) to add to Balmer, RJF, McDonald, & keep 1 of the undersized guys in the non-stop active Justin Smith as DEFENSIVE ENDS. Franklin & Sopoaga are quick/athletic enough & s/b able to dominate at the DE spots. Franklin especially..Sopoaga through his whole career still lacks consistency at any position. We don't need 2 smallish 4-3 DE's so Evans could be looked into being traded who we should get good value for & find a replacement for another position IF he has a good year (unless we can trade for a real NT NOW which I doubt.) McDonald is still a question mark with those shaky knees.
Point is if we concentrated on bringing in 1 LEGIT STARTING NT + an additional 1 or 2 to develop we wouldn’t have to worry about acquiring any more DE’s esp if RJF & Balmer pan out. This Khalif Mitchell is also intriguing. He has size but like Franklin is a tweener at 318 lbs. When I watch this Mitchell he looks very athletic/agile for such a big man. I see him as another DE & him dropping the weight to help him even more with his speed/quickness. Ideally he should be 310 lbs max for a 3-4 DE. (Probably a PS guy if he continues to flash & show potential.) We need some serious beef on our DLINE & SPECIFICALLY AT THE NT POSITION. WE NEED TO GET STOUT & DOMINATE AT THE POINT!!!! We were mostly controlled by Denver in that last game. Franklin is OK & good at times but he LACKS SIZE & DOES NOT DOMINATE AT THAT CRUCIAL POSITION.
Green is a good depth signing. He'll probably force one of the younger guys who have some talent to the PS. Anyone know if Green is overcoming an injury or what his deal is for his drop in play? AZ released him & quickly now from Miami. Hopefully the motivated team D will light a fire under him as he tries to catch & keep up with them. He's still young & had decent stats in the passes deflected #'s. Not much in INT's.
Green: 5-11 / 196 lbs / 27 yrs old / 5th season.
Year - passes defl / INT's
2008 - 5 / 1
2007 - 8 / 0
2006 - 13 / 0
2005 - 4 / 1
Barring a meltdown Saturday, I don't think you'll have to wait past that game. Hill will be named starter after the Raider game. That eliminates the uncertainty with half the preseason left. That does not sound that bad.
The secondary seemed strong even before the Raider practice interceptionfest (thanks Demarcus!). Getting Green makes us deeper, but I don't know how it helps the pass rush though, unless we are all about coverage sacks. Nice when you can get em, but best to have the pressure coming on every play.
eh, er, make that thanks, JaMarcus...
Whomever it was that was touting Clint Sintim and Connor Barwin, You sir are an astute talent evaluator. Both those guys look like they could be very, very good pass rushers. Of course, this is the preseason but they've shown a hell of alot more than Lawson or any other 9er in the pass rush department.
....I watched the game again last nite...
..A.Smith did look good....I wont say better cuz he did have more reps.....Hill was not impressive especially with those 2 sacks.....if Hill starts the season i bet he does not last through 4 games....
A.Smith pass to morgan and battle were classic on the money passes - he did throw the ball before the receiver were opened...
.....The pocket looked way better when A.Smith was at QB....
Snyder is a beast, he played better than staley.....
The pass rush did exist - Orton got rid of the ball very quickly everytime.....That first drive by orton, i didn't see him hold the ball longer than 3-4 secs...
it was the corners that played off....
-(i still dont get why niners DC put pressure on opposing QB's then give the WR'S a cushion)
......V.Davis looks great - he looks more athletic, looks like he lost a lot of weight
....Mckillop - made 2 tackles on his first two plays of his career....He tackles the legs...
...Our New Free safety looks really good during run support, he his very fast.....
......Coffee looked good but still needs to learns that holes in the nfl dont last that long...i love the cut and dash
....our Dline actually played well...I saw multiple times the Broncos O-line getting pushed backwards -
......I have no doubt we make the playoffs this yr..
Good point about execution smokie & that could be the difference between now & last year at this time. It comes down to attention to detail & getting it right when a play is not executed properly. Now if the 49er D-line can execute a PASS RUSH on Saturday.
At least there is reason for optimism.
A bro are you a Niner fan or an Alex Smith fan? Hill not lasting more than 4 games means were losing our first 4 game. Get off A Smiths nuts. Whoever it is that becomes the starter has to win for the team. Change your name if winning isn't in your game plan. And stop watching that preseason game dude that's old news AS won't look any better and SH won't look worse. Same goes with the pass rush. Look to what happens against the Raiders.
I had 3 rush OLB's who could be taken at that 43 slot. I pulled back on Brown who I could still be wrong about because I got nervous about his lack of size...there were reports that his weight fluctuated from 235 - 250. When compared to Orapko who's at a NATURAL 260 that's when I had my doubts. But he definitely has the speed & ALL the pass rush moves. Watching him in his 1st preseason game he struggled but I think he just needs time to adjust to the STRENGTH of NFL OLinemen & for himself to add muscle. I still like his chances to succeed.
I absolutely thought we should of taken Barwin who I thought the PATS (or another team) would snag in the late 1st RD. His size, measurables, intangibles, & potential are AWESOME, VERY HIGH. I saw him as a SAFE pick who will EVENTUALLY be a solid player at worst. A safe pick but one who has a very high ceiling. In college he got converted to DE & played only for 1 year there at Cinci with soft competition. He EXPLODES on film when watching his college tape. Very QUICK first step. I saw him as needing 2-3 years of development & I'm surprised to see him making plays so early. It was vs backups I believe so it's still early but good signs for him. We'll see. After that 2 years I predicted he would be an impact - star player. I know we wanted a guy who could possibly start or contribute ASAP but a starting Rookie pass rusher in the 2nd RD? Still on the rare side.
I thought Sintim could be a possibility because he had solid college stats/sacks & PLAYED RUSH LB IN THE 3-4 & we NEEDED PASS RUSH HELP BADLY. He struggled at the combine. I liked him in the 3rd RD, not the 2nd. But since we needed rushers I wouldn't have been disappointed in taking a chance at him. For the record my #1 3-4 rush OLB of the group was Larry English but I knew he wouldn't last to 43.
Amen...can I get a witness...
Great move releasing Keasey. Way over due. I hope Hill is named the starter before the Dallas game.
Ummm, you are (intentionally) forgetting the biggest error that I know made every Niner fan angry....A. Smith panicking and throwing the ball at the feet of Coffee on a perfect play call. Coffee had a blocker and a wide-open field. All Smith had to do was get it to him and he failed us once again. Great guy, not a starting qb.
More on Eric Green.
This is what a sportswriter who covers Miami wrote about Green when they were trying him out....
Green started nine regular-season games for the NFC champion Cardinals. He's scheduled to visit Tennessee on Thursday and San Francisco on Friday, a league source said.
In four NFL seasons, Green has 167 tackles, 30 passes defensed and two interceptions. Green, who turns 27 on March 16, has made 33 NFL starts, including all 11 games in which he appeared in 2007.
Green, who is listed at 5-foot-11, 196 pounds, is rated the No. 19 free agent cornerback by Scout.com.
ESPN’s Scouts Inc. gave Green a grade of 65, or that of an average NFL starter. Andre Goodman, who signed with Denver this past weekend and started every game last year for the Dolphins, received a grade of 67.
Scouts Inc. calls Green “a good overall athlete with good size.” It says Green is better off the line of scrimmage than in bump and run, and compliments ability to react to routes and under zone coverage.
Scouts Inc. said Green has average ball skills, noting his two picks in four seasons, and said fast receivers can separate deep on him.
Green sounds like a solid player who may be in the same class as Goodman, but definitely is more experienced and proven than the stable of Dolphins corners behind starter Will Allen - Jason Allen, Nate Jones and Joey Thomas.
But Green doesn’t sound like the big-time cornerback the Dolphins could use.
Dude i gotta agree with 9er bouie, i hope you dont take this as a bash but im seriously curious what your deal with Smith is. I also dont wanna start the season 0-4, or 1-3. I said before I dont care who the starting QB is in the end i want the 49ers to win!! nd it seems obvious to everyone in the country that Hill is that guy. I root for hill cuz i like him better i think he is gutsy and a much better leader and gets rid of the G-D ball!!! I root for him cuz i think we can win with him, but lets be real here we all want the 49ers to win first right?? Not for Smith to do well.
And anyone that says smith had a better Preseason game must be high. Hill ran the offense more efficently was 2-2 had a 9 yard run and lead them to a scoring drive. what more can u ask for?? and if they didnt run a non just vanilla but fat free vanilla HB dive on 3rd n 3 that drive cld have gone for 6.
All I know is Sintim's speed rush looked awesome. He was going against a 2nd or 3rd stringer so it has to be taken with a grain of salt. Barwin, who I believe was going against a 1st stringer, put a SICK move on his guy for a sack and was constantly pressuring the QB. On his sack, he dipped his shoulder like it was going to be a spin move and instantly squared up, excelerated and planted his facemask in the QB's chest. The tackle completely whiffed on the block. It was definitely highlite material.
Actually A.Smith 2 screen pass attempts were horrible.....the first one was caught by coffee (even though coffee should have done a better job of separating from the oline) A.smith could have led him away from the oline....
...the second screen pass you could see he had the timing but not the touch (i blame that on rust)
...the 3rd down pass he overthrew was actually a good play...the two receivers on that side of the field were covered....
...Of course i dont hope we lose the 4 games...its just plain reality.....if we win any games in the first 4 - it will be because of GORE......but Gore alone cant win 4 games in a row
....By the way the first couple of games are the hardest games to play....Hill will be required to make a big play (same as A.Smith did against Arizona).....and i have no doubt he will fail....am sorry i cant lie to myself...
Why do you have no doubt he will fail? He's already proven he can do it in the clutch. See the game winning td pass @ STL and our last drive of the season vs. WASH. You must be ONLY fan who has more confidence in Smith that Hill. Sorry, S. Hill will be the starter and leader of our offense.
Obviously you're going to push this out as far as possible. Months ago you were Absolutely Positive Smith was going to derail Hill in OTA's and MiniCamp... then it changed to T.C and now you're saying Gore will be the only reason we win if Hill starts.
Lay off the Crack Pipe brotha!!! Trying to make you see reason is like trying to make Rush Limbaugh root for Obama... it's never gonna happen.
If you cant lie to your self then why are you continuing to do so by thinking Smith will do a better job then Hill?
Also you cant really blame the first sack on Hill, That was all Keasey's fault. he got ran over!! the second sack, yea he held on to the ball to long but i give him the credit of trying to hang in there to make something out of nothing but he did wait to long.
If we have a good positive thing going with Hill, then why change it? kinda like the saying, if it aint broke dont fix it?
at the end of 07 hill did the same thing, came in tryna to win games for us. And what did we do in 08?? start JTO and look where that got us!
Lets give Hill the chance to carry on those positives into a full season. I Have nothing against Alex, but right now Hill is looking like the better QB to help us win. that doesn't mean Alex is done. It just means he still needs time to get back to that level.
that game winning td pass @ STL was all Morgan....that pass was intended for either hill or morgan....Morgan jumped like he has always done...BTW HILL WAS HORRIBLE THE FIRST 3 QUARTERS OF THE GAME
@BennyBlanco - I still think A.Smith as played better than Hill in TC....I keep hearing reports saying Hill is not a mystery -"We know what he can do" - What that tells me is that the coaches dont believe he can be better than he already is......and what he his right now is an average QB that can't win big games because of his physical liabilities.....
@Nastysteve - This hill guy has been in the league for YEARS - Got his first chance to lead last yr...I base all my opinion on what i saw last yr just like all of yu do...
just another reminder on Hill's performance....
7 wins vs 6 teams that have combined winning % .380
Win 1 vs Bengals who are 6-12 since that game.
Win 2 vs Buccaneers, TB out gained the 49ers 434 to 213, held the ball for nearly 35 minutes and lost by 2 points. They were already playoff bound and pulled their starters early.
Win 3 vs Rams, they are 5-23 over two seasons!
Win 4 vs Bills, Buf out gained them 350 to 195 and couldn't even kick a few FG's from 20 yards out that day. They finished 3-9 after starting out 4-0 vs Oak, Sea, Jac, and StL all bad teams.
Win 5 vs Jets, Farve's arm was a noodle at that point, the Jets finished the season 1-4 including the loss to SF and even lost to Seattle who was crap.
Win 6 vs Rams, 5-23 I repeat 5-23 the past two seasons and they still needed to come back at the end to win this game!
Win 7 vs Redskins, another bad team that finished 1-5, 2-6 over the last 8 games of the season.
Hill's 3 losses:
Loss 1 vs Cardinals, he turned the ball over twice late in that game, got it back both times on penalties and within a couple of plays he turned it over again both times! Those turnovers gave the Cardinals the ball inside the 49ers 20 both times and gave the Cardinals 10 points. He cost the 49ers that game and NO ONE talks about that. Instead they want to blame it on Martz, if it wasn't for Hill's turnovers the end of the game would have never been an issue!
Loss 2 vs Dallas, not even a close game. The 49ers had no chance to win this game, it was 32 to 9 at the start of the 4th. They got a couple of TD's in the 4th, but that was pretty much garbage time at that point.
Loss vs Miami, they scored 9 points, Gore was out where was Hill when the team needed someone to step up? Oh yeah the TD that Roman gave up in the 1st quarter was the excuse for this one. Right!
Hill has had his chance - he belongs on the bench...
....I said the same thing about JTO last yr, same thing is gonna happen this yr....
Mike in MD:
Thanks for the great info on Green!
Maiocco should hire you.
*ALOHA*
Matt: What do you think the Niners plan to do with Green ? Do they remember him from when he played against them with the Cards and thought he was really good,or do they just want to pick his brain to understand the Cards defense better before they open the reg. season against them ? Would they consider him in competition with Spencer etc? In other words is this a really great FA pickup or just a player that MIGHT stick for depth? I was impressed once again in how Scotty pulled the trigger on this FA deal before most of the competition even had a chance to reach for their guns ! McGloughan is quite a difference from Donahue and Nolan, when it looked like they were alseep at the switch when it came to making deals and rounding up FA's. (Jed ,Scotty and Sing ,as usual, look like a great tam to lead this Franchise into a great future !).
LOL !!! Your name is ONEniner because you only care about 1 Niner,Alex.
And yes,you are correct (sort of) that Hill did finally get his chance last season and he hit the ball out of the park and earned Sing his HCing job with his excellent play.
Now that Hill has blown Alex out of the water in the so called competition,,will you be changing your name to FIFTYTHREEniner or what? I and most REAL fans of the team care about the entire roster, not just one pet player.
Yes,that means I care about alex too !!! Hopefully he improves enough ,in time,to become a quality backup to Hill and then to Davis .(if he is kept with the team). He is still young and who knows,he might come around ,someday, maybe.
Hill has had his chance - he belongs on the bench...
....I said the same thing about JTO last yr, same thing is gonna happen this yr....
***********************************
Maybe Hill does belong on the bench, but not on this roster. For this competition to go beyond Saturday Smith will have to play lights-out AND Hill would need to regress against the Raiders. I'm looking forward to seeing a starter named heading into the Dallas game.
What's the combined winning record of the teams A.Smith beat? Not tryina be smart I'm really just curious.
...Who cares....As long as the Yorks agree with me - that is what really matters here....
the last post was not to you...
..good stuff on eric green...
Thanks for the play by play. I'll have to try & catch Barwin by tomorrow or SAT before the 2nd preseason games kick in on NFLN. He sounds like he's learning fast. That would really be something if it was vs the first team D. I've got to check him out.
If we kept our 2nd & 4th I would have liked Maualuga (who would have thought he would slip that far?) or Barwin. For the 4th I liked the top FB's Fiametta or QJohnson, NT's Sammy Lee Hill or Vaughn Martin, or RT Tupou.
Will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I hope we don't need a franchise QB next year but chances are we will. So we likely will have one 1st RD'er for a non-QB. NT is a strong consideration (still need to see more this year from Terrence Cody & look at how his conditioning is coming along otherwise NT Boo Robinson/Wake Forest in the 2nd or 3rd RD) or a STUD #1 PASS RUSHER. ALSO if we could somehow get into the ERIC BERRY SWEEPSTAKES I'D BE ALL IN. Berry is one of those rare once in every 5+ years players.
Thanks KauaiRob....Matt here will always be THE MAN!
Most of those stats sum up our defensive struggles of last year. Giving up too many yards and stopping them in the red zone. Offense hardly got on the field last year. And the team still managed to win. And a win is a win in the NFL. Those weren't easy to come by in 07 & 06. I'm convinced you want the niners to lose. I also think your a raider fan on the under. Since your so sure our future starting QB can't and won't help us win. I'm just being honest.
..you did well by countering my arguments with sum facts about the defense....but then you went over the cliff with your looney rant....
...somethin fishy is goin on ....this the second story about the niners covered by the Associated Press in a week - 49ers' Battle healthy and ready
....Why are we getting so much love..
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20090820/fbn-49ers-battle-tested/
Ok maybe overboard with the raider comment. But stop the hill bashing we need him. And smith. In case Hill gets hurt.
On NT's I was really disappointed we couldn't have AT LEAST gone after 1 that went undrafted.
Chris Baker looked good & had a sack against us vs Denver & had another good pressure I believe. He's 6-3, 328 lbs. Has some legit talent & is athletic for a big man. Got kicked out of Penn ST (fighting) & transferred to Hampton. Slipped due to character. Antonio Dixon (similar..6-3, 325 lbs) was the other NT who went undrafted & got snagged by the Skins. He came off of knee surgery this year & struggled but was a prior 3rd RD prospect.
I noticed this Warren from Oakland has the right size for the position, anyone know how good this guy is?
Sorry to be a KJ on this subject but Marc NJ9er pointed out this misstep to me. This one BLOWS MY MIND. In 2006 the clueless GM NOWIN selected Vernon Davis when Haloti Ngata was available. Ngata's measurables are also mind blowing. He's 6-5, 335 lbs & runs a 4.85/40..just unbelievable for such a big man. His scouting report is IMPRESSIVE....check this out.
Positives:
Haloti Ngata is a veritable mountain of a man in the middle of the defensive line, and has the strength to throw around guards when he's getting into the backfield. He also has great burst and agility to get through the line when brute force isn't enough. Ngata's coaches also call him among the most intelligent athletes they've ever seen, and he uses that intelligence to his full advantage, showing an ability to read play-action passes or where runs are going better than nearly anyone at his level of development, and better than many NFL linemen. Ngata also will refuse to give up on plays and doesn't take any off. He also has a rare ability among defensive linemen that he doesn't lose much from his play if he's on the field and hurting.
Negatives:
The only real negative about Ngata is that he tore an ACL in his sophomore year, which is always a concern for someone his age. However, he came back claiming that his damaged knee was stronger post-rehab than his healthy knee was, and no proof to the contrary has come out through his play.
POINT IS....how could the clueless GM NOWIN MISS THIS????!!! He's a "defensive guru" & HIS MAIN CENTRAL STUD ANCHOR PIECE is staring him right in the face for the taking in HIS conversion to the 3-4. It's UNFREAKIN' BELIEVABLE what a moron this guy was. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHRISTMAS IN 2006!!!! Instead he gets suckered by a combine freak & someone who isn't a NATURAL football player/reciever. Plus TE's are rarely, if ever, taken that high. I repeat we could have had a START towards being a dominant Defense YEARS AGO. When I read a scouting report like that the "green" light comes on. He could be special & WE NEED TO LOOK INTO THIS. Unbelievable screw up IMO.
Finish on Ngata....
Overview (Conclusion):
Haloti Ngata has been described as a quiet, but good-natured football player, which is never a bad thing to see. With his size and the tools he has, he will be a valuable pickup for ANY NFL FRANCHISE LOOKING FOR A HIGH-FLIGHT DT TO ADD TO THEIR ROSTER (...Nowin, hello???!!) Barring future complications from his previous knee surgery, HE SHOULD BE AN NFL STAR FOR YEARS TO COME.
Hi,
This is my first time commenting on this page. This is in response to Oneniner's comments regarding winning percentage for Shaun Hill. In looking at Alex Smith's teams and the winning percentage of those teams I have done a bit of research:
2005:
St. Louis 6-10
Houston 2-14
2006
St. Louis 8-8
Oakland 2-14
Min 6-10
Det 3-13
Seattle 9-7
Seattle 9-7
Denver 9-7
2007
Arizona 8-8
St. Louis 3-13
When I added these wins up I came up with a winning percentage of .370 for the teams that Alex Smith beat (which I believe is lower than the teams Shaun Hill beat). My point here is not who should win or lose this battle but that utilizing these stats to support your case is assinine. If you look at the teams that Tom Brady beat during his undefeated season and the combined winning percentage for those teams you will find that it is not that much higher.
lamberds, I bow to your knowledge. I'm bookmarking this page for reference.
oneniner...IN YO' FACE!
Hey dude!? I know now you bring up AS on every comment you make just to get under the real 49er fans skins! EVERYBODY has had a good laugh from your comments, but even Laurel and Hardy get old! GO SHAUN!! Bring us the to the playoffs!
I was one of the many onto Connor Barwin -and was elated when he was available at second round slot-really in a state when we didn't grab him!
