Niners running back Frank Gore was named the NFC offensive player of the week on Tuesday, despite missing the final seven minutes of the 49ers' win against the Seahawks with a right ankle sprain.

Coach Mike Singletary said he is not sure if Gore will practice later today. If Gore does practice, it will be on a limited basis. Gore, meanwhile, said he feels fine and fully expects to be ready for this week's game against the Vikings.

More news and notes. . . .

--Singletary said the team will see how receiver Brandon Jones practices this week before making a decision whether he'll play Sunday. Jones has not played since Aug. 6, when he sustained a broken right shoulder blade.

--Linebacker Ahmad Brooks dressed for his first practice since undergoing arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone fragment from his knee after the 49ers' third exhibition game.

"PSSTt...ttt...t..t.t.tttt... On second thought, just have a seat over there Gore and cheer the practice squad on from the sidelines... better yet, take our 9ers vouchers and go get a message every day, because you deserve it buddy, that's why, you deserve it!"

"Sheets, get in there... no not first team 'O', you're simulating AP this week!.......... Have at it boys!"

Frank is our offense, and I dig Frank the most, but the prospect of this team trying to win without him is pretty damn scary. Matt: Does the coaching staff plan to rely this heavily on Frank throughout the season? Do you think Coffee will garner regular carries as part of the game plan, instead of just as relief for Frank, at some point?

..i thought there was "more to come"...

Frank Gore didn't have that heavy of a load last week, only 16 carries. He just made the most of them. He was taken out as a precautionary measure. I'm glad he's getting some rest though. I drafted him in all three fantasy leagues (so I would never have to conflicted interest). Frank will be ok. That's the beauty of offseason hard work, it strengthens ligaments and tendons. This is the best shape I've seen him in.

If brandon jones makes it onto the active roster this week and j hill is inactive due to coaches' decision again, that's going to require a HUGE explanation. it's making me furious that he's on the bubble against a guy with a broken shoulder, and a guy who can't fake a hand off/hand off a ball or throw a ball to a wide open receiver which is the reason why he even made the squad at all. He had one good tackle on special teams... other than that he's been nothing but messed up plays...

Jones had a great camp etc and is expected to be our speed burner WR. I am looking forward to getting him back,he is a real weapon !

Apparently Hill is just another guy to the staff.I think he has done well but apparently the staff don't think that highly of him ? From what I have seen,he seems to get open and make plays, but I do not see him in practice every day like the coaches do.
