One thing to keep in mind: The 49ers are expected to be in the market for backups at fullback, tight end and offensive tackle. If they add players at those positions, an equal number of above players will have to go.

Here is some of what 49ers coach Mike Singletary had to say about the final cuts:

On decision to keep two TEs. Does this mean they'll be look at the waiver wire to add a blocking tight end?

"It depends on what happens throughout the next few days, but right now we're content with the team we have."

Might an offensive lineman be used as a second TE in short-yardage situations?

"That could be a possibility. We're just going to weigh our options and see how that works its way out."

On the decision to release rookie RB Kory Sheets:

"I think certainly he did some nice things, but what we wanted to do and keep focus of is we wanted to have the 53 guys who really gave us the best opportunity to win."

On OLB Diyral Briggs making the team:

"He's young, he has talent and going forward we just want to see him continue to develop. . . . He's still raw and we just have to work with it. . . . Briggs making roster is an indication we believe in him. See how it works out."

Have you spoken to Jason Hill about his discontent, and what is his role?

"When you look at Jason Hill, every chance that he's had is a situation which he's been able to make plays. I know he can be frustrated about the amount of time he had or the amount of catches that he had or whatever. "

What did Micheal Spurlock do to win a spot?

"All offseason, I think Spurlock continued to show up. He's a versatile guy. He can help you in special teams areas and continue to better as a receiver and run better routes. And he works at it. It's important for us. Felt it was a good opportunity and a good fit.

On DL Ricky Jean-Francois making the team:

"I just think he's a big body that's talented. He's got really good work ethic. He studies - does a lot of things . . . the maturity that he has."

On S Curtis Taylor making the team:

"I just think when you look at his size alone, you hope when you see a guy that size that he can play. And this guy can actually really . . .  this guy nice range, good speed and he's become more physical since he's been here. That was good to see.

On TE Bear Pascoe not making the team:

"When you look at Bear, he's a quality young man. I just think for him it's a matter of getting used to the speed of the NFL. Just getting used to seeing guys who are big and fast and coming at you, and you have to block them. That's a big part of his game, and I'm not sure coming out of Fresno if he was really used to that, guys this big and fast and blocking a moving target. That's something he's going to have to get better at."

Was Eric Green not as good as you thought he'd be or didn't have enough practice in the defense?

"I think it was more the latter. I think he came in on the tail end and we spent a lot of time talking about different coverages, and it can be complex at times. And I think it's unfortunate he came in so late. It made it tough for him to make a contribution."

Releasing Kory Sheets is a big mistake. They should have found room for this guy who will burn up the league somewhere

I think Sing and his staff and Scotty pretty much did the proper thing with the roster and will continue to do well.
Hopefully Sheets,Miller,Spanos,Boone and one of the TE's will make it through waivers and will improve and be able to contribute in the future. But remember, next year the roster will be better again, thanks to the draft and free agency etc,so these guys will need to get better or find a nitch to make themselves indespensable.
I hope they find a quality vet RT that has at least one good year left in him, that was cut.Or maybe they trade for one ? And I hope Snyder and Staley never miss a snap !!!

Matt who do you believe gets cut if crabtree signs? Seems
like either hill or spurloc are only place holders.

Also I guess when coach said the team had two tight ends he really meant it! Never guessed he meant 2 and only 2 tightends.

Would've rather kept Sheets and/or Zeigler than Spurlock and/or Rossum. Hopefully one or both of those guys makes it to our practice roster.

Also, not too surprised that the NFL is punking the 49ers. I'm not sure why, but they seem to dislike us. They were more than willing to find us guilty in a weak tampering case with the bears and didn't blink at Smiley and the Dolphins. Is it our mere proximity to Al Davis??

No big surprises here, wish we could've kept Bear Pascoe after using a 5th rd pick on him.

I'm glad we held on to Jean-Francois, Curtis Taylor, J.Hill and Spurlock.

Hey Matt, who's more likely to catch passes between Spurlock and Hill, and who will get cut if/when Crabtree signs?

Yes I loved the way S.D's second team offense pounded our overhyped 1st string defense and drove down the field on them like they were a high school team..Oh yes our first team offense is going backwards to 2007 Jimy Raye must have found Hostlers old playbook because this offense is booooorrrriiinnngggggg!run up the gut..run..up the gut..screen....This is going to be a long season again..THIS TEAM HAS NO TALENT....Besides Willis and Gore,Mc Cluless has drafted tons of career backups that are starters for us.I was reading a Football preview earlier and read about the Niners.Under the column view from the other sideline it says"The Niners have no identity, they dont seem to know what kind of team they are. They have talent in Gore and Willis but thats about it..They have a bunch of high draft picks that never panned out and overpaid for mediocre free agents, they dont seem to have the right people in the front office"Who ever this was hit the nail on the head..And Crabtree doesnt want more money..You think hes really dumb enough to sit out this season? He doesnt want to play for the Niners point blank..I dont blame him he probably watches this offense and knows he wont be used anyway just like Vernon Davis..Get ready for another long season cause watching the niners offense is like watching grass grow.Cant wait till Mc Cloughans fired!Niners dont even belong in the NFL with all the sub par talent they have...

Matt seriously...are our scouts that bad or is MC Cloughan that dumb cause anyone can see our drafts have been very bad...

Matt:

I have to ask if Sheets attitude had something to do with him being cut? Is he not a team guy? Does he not study hard or get along with his teammates from what you saw?

Our offesnse is awefully thin at a lot of postions:
QB
TE
OL (mostly tackle)
RB

Shorten the posts! The only person I read that writes more than a screen-full is Matt.

SC Rick, I believe the word you're looking for is "eliminate", not "shorten."

Wow, you sure sound like a true fan. We all know that preseason is a true indicator of things to come in the regular season, right? LOL. Maybe Dr. Phil can help solve some of your problems...

New young talent sticking (so far) this year: Davis, Coffee, Spurlock, RJF, McKillop, Briggs and Taylor. They'll be more on the practice squad. Glad to see we are upgrading the talent level, even though most of these guys need a lot of development.

In one sentence Singletary says the team wants to keep 53 guys that give them the best opportunity to win and two answers later he's talking about keeping a guy that that needs to be developed?! How does a guy that needs to develop give the team the best chance to win?!

No matter how much Sheets needs to learn it sure can't be more than Briggs. And if they are going to get anywhere near 60% rushing they probably can use another RB more than they can use a LB that needs developing.

Your funny Grinch(aptly named by the way). The only problen is I don't think you mean your nonsense to be funny. But it is,so thanks for the laugh !

The 49ers Director of College Scouting is David McCloughan! Scot's older brother! That says it all.

So does your screen name.

Grinch needs to lay off the tweek. lol. Get some help, buddy.

You call yourself a Niner fan? Don't show up at a game acting like that, bro. I don't think you'd last very long.

That's why he writes like he does: he DID show up for a game and came away less than when he entered.

the only surprise cut i see here is kory sheets. the guy is too good to let go. i would rather had let go of michael robinson.

You really like watching your football team struggle just to score points year after year???More power to you..

And what, your his lawyer? Did he pay you a retainer or what, homie?

LOL, no doubt. The only thing he left off at the end of his name was "sense." :D

Matt, Do you think that the Niners will try to pick up the recently released S Brian Russel from the Seahawks and T Tony Pasho from the Jags? I think that these guys would be great pick ups!!

Should have just drafted Deshaun Jackson last year..But no he has an attitude problem....Could have got him for much cheaper..Lokk now hes scoring touhdowns in the NFL and weve got ourselves a real character guy in crabtree...Another nice move by Mc Cloughan..What about that Aoron Rodgers guy?You know the one who grew up a die hard 9er fan and wanted to play for the Niners his whole life???Oh yea we got Alice Smith who cant even hit a wide open receiver besides over his head or his toes meanwhile Aaron Rodgers is thrrowing td passes like Smith throws incompletions..Nice Mc Cloughan.....What about those great 1st round d line man...Like Kentwan Balmer ..oh yeah he cant even make it on the field..What about that great draft where they got V Davis and Manny Lawson well V Davis is the 18th ranked tight end in the NFL and Manny Lawson couldnt penetrate Vannessa Del RIo....Nice move Mc Cloughan..Sad thing is I could do this for another hour...Bring on the glory days..Dont the Niners remind you of that movie the replacements..Oh wait even they could score touchdowns..sorry

Well considering this season hasn't actually started, I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens, right?

I mean, we could take your word for it, but we would be foolish to listen to some guy whose been up for 72 hours burning holes in his brain. lol.

Seriously, you don't know whats going to happen this season, and based on your diagnosis, you don't know much about what's happened in any of the previous season.

Since 81 are you an idoit?Ray Charles could see what has happenned the previous seasons...Its all stated above..Ill tell you whats gonna happen this season..The same thing thats has happened evry other season since the Yorks took over were going to suck....Keep praying

Just a friendly reminder - there are 31 other teams. Feel free to pick one.

Vanessa del rio. lol. Nice one.

And yeah, Rodgers does looks better every day. Lets see how he does this year though. He hasn't proven anything yet, other than he had a good passing year for a bad team that was playing from behind the whole time. I thought we should have taken him in that draft to, though.

BUT, Alex has been dealt the worst possible card any QB could have been dealt. He has handled it with more class than ANYONE else would have. He's a class act, who TOOK A PAYCUT for the benefit of the team. He looked good in '06 under a real offensive coordinator. If Nolan didn't screw him up, who knows how he might have advanced since then. Alex doesn't deserve to be abused by "fans". He has at least earned respect from any real fan.

There are 31 other teams that are alot better than this one,and know how to draft decent players in the right rounds. If your kid doesnt perform at school do you just deny it and let him keep going on messing up..?Its called constructive critisism...Then again, you probably dont have kids because that would take a women and if your dating skills are anything like your football knowledge your only partner is your right hand!

Really? 31 other teams are better than us? Sorry, you just lost all credibility...

Oh and thanks for your interest, but yes, I do have an 11 year-old daughter and a beautiful girlfriend of 7 years... Have you called the Dr. Phil show yet? Maybe he can help you.

Does Michael Robinson have some dirt on the Yorks? Is there another reason he makes the team every year?

Oh yeah one other thing...we are supposed to run the ball a bunch but we keep 4 RB's and six WR's WTF?????????????????

31 better teams? There is a "team" across the water who couldn't compete with our 2nd string, and who couldn't draft a good player if he hit them in the face. lol

Your not a Niner fan. Nice try though.
Not really. Tweeker.

C'mon Man! Your opinion has as much standing here as anyone else, but reread your posts and then tell us again how they qualify as constructive criticism. They might be better described as rants. Rants are OK, but let's get real about what they are.

Im a Niner fan but I wont settle for mediocrity..If your happy with the talent thats fine but Mc Cloughan is a terrible GM and anyone who thinks this team has drafted well and is on the right track is the "Tweeker"

Yea pretty much just angry rants...but they are true..

Oh, that's right. I forgot. You already know what's going to happen this season, before it even starts.

Because your the grinch. Who told you, all the Who's in Whoville?

Dude, your posts are sort of a drag. But I am interested in seeing who you think should have been kept (one paragraph or less) and see if they are taken by another team, sounds fair right? Good Luck!

Look for the 49ers to claims Pashos from the Jags and cut Wallace. Crabtree's spot on the roster in the short term, assuming he signs, is created by placing Brandon Jones on IR tomorrow since he won't be ready for more than 4 weeks anyway. Who goes for the new thumper FB that Matt suspects is coming. My guess is Rossum; that is why they kept Spurlock as a returner plus. Rossum only serves as a returner. Spurlock is a returner, wide receiver and taser option.

Good thoughts, Drew, but I don't think the Niners can "claim" Pashos since he is a 4+ years veteran. He'd be a FA, so we'd have to compete (maybe) for his services.

The waiver wire FB maybe David Kirtman cut by Seahawks.

THA GRINCH is right.

I've been a fan since 1970. Being a fan does not mean you are a lemming, blind to the strengths and weaknesses of your team. It means you root for the team and have the right to go to games, get season tickets, cheer and also be critical.

McCloughen has not performed. Draft pick after draft pick have not met expectations. The Crabtree situation is just another example.

Like Crabtree or hate him (he can suck eggs), WINNING organizations GET IT DONE one way or another---and that means finding a way to sign the player without compromising your team.

Most people in the private sector would have been fired with such a spotty performance record. And he SHOULD be fired, PERIOD.

This is a team that will have to have EVERYTHING go right for them just be a .500 team. And how likely is that to happen?

They have a journeyman QB, and a bunch of no name WR's led by a very old WR on the downside of his career. They dont get seperation. The o-line is questionable. We have NO PASS RUSH, PERIOD. Vanessa Del Rio is safe with this D-line. The secondary is going to be eaten alive against good teams like San Diego.

If we are being honest, the bright spots are Gore, Willis and the punter.

I REALLY REALLY hope I'm wrong, but 6-10 or 7-9 seems inevitable.

Singletary says he wants them to be physical with an "F". I think the "F" will stand for "Failure to make the playoffs" AGAIN. I hope I'm wrong.

Wow, LOL. THA GRINCH just created another account to support himself. The 2nd Vanessa Del Rio reference gave it away guy...

Question: Do you think that the Niners will try to pick up the recently released S Brian Russel from the Seahawks and T Tony Pasho from the Jags?

My response: I think they're interested in Pashos, but I don't see where Russell would fit in. --Matt M.

Randy, I thought the Vanessa Del Rio comment was pure brilliance. I couldnt resist.

Trust me, I like Christmas, I'm not THA GRINCH.

But I do agree with him.

In fact, posting those kinds of comments about McClueless when the 49ers chose not to trade for Cutler got me banned from the 49ers bulletin board permanently.

The 49ers seem like a rudderless ship getting ready to take a beating in a 16-week storm.

I look at the first three weeks---I can envision 0-3 pretty easily against Arizona, Seattle and Minnesota. Does anyone realistically see an 0-3 start differently?

Hahahaha sounds to me like Sing maybe took wind of Jason Hill's argument, and it might've given Sing more of a reason to keep Jason over Ziggy. -Sing loves 'fight' in his players.

But there's still a wide-eyed guess as to which WR will get cut the moment Crabs signs (if he signs that is). Hill could still be the odd man out.

Seriously...Sheets...Dude is fast, the END...get over it...he wouldn't even see the field this year, a wasted roster spot, Get over it!!! And where are all the Bear Pascoe fans that were calling for VD departure....Idiots, Rooks don't just jump in...unless your special like Willis

They will still win the West, still don't understand Mark Roman's role on the team.

who starts; Bly or Brown?

Dr Phil? Ney, Dr Roberts-this guy needs some mood elevators or a hotline!

Criticism is one thing, but I think insulting grown men is nonsense. The same people that have the courage to type away whatever venom they wanna dish out wouldn't ever say any of those things to these guys faces. I understand people want to rant, but give it a rest. The negativity gets old especially if you don't have anything useful to say. Like the great Ice Cube said, "you better check yoself before you wreck yoself."

Last I checked, McC is in his 1st year as GM. And any GM only picks the players. The players play the game. Poor performance is on the players, not coaches and GMs.

Im glad they kept Jason Hill eventhough I didnt see him too much this preseason. Its too bad Sheets, Miller, Finley, Pascoe, Moore didnt make it, but those are all positions the 49ers had depth in so they really had to stand out in order to make the team. Sheets did stand out, but who else would they have to cut in order to keep him? They have to keep Robinsoon because he can play FB also, or in other words Coach Sing wants bruisers. Hopefully they can get on the practice squad, but im pretty sure they can get picked up by other teams.

Youre right Stampede.

I would not call him McClueless to his his face, that would be rude. Sometimes I do get out of hand on the posting boards.

I would however question his draft acumen to his face. I could be wrong but I think has been the GM for the last 3-5 years hasnt he?

Wasn't he was the GM who picked Alex Smith, Vernon Davis, Manny Lawson, Kentwan Balmer and Crabtree?

Again, I many be wrong, but I think he 's the architect of those drafts.

I dont think any of those picks have lived up to expectations, do you? In all fairness the jury is out on Crabtree, but then again even he signs he will make next to no impact this year.

I hope I'm wrong, I have a new 21 jersey in my closet I want to get some use out of this year without havaing to take too much crap from all these Bolt fans here in SD.

"Scot McCloughan is the current General Manager of the San Francisco 49ers. He was elevated to that post on January 2, 2008, after serving as the team's Vice President of Player Personnel since February 2005.[1]"

Wikipedia

I stand corrected, he has only been GM for 1 year as Stampede said. This probably explains why he hasnt been fired even though he was involved in all those drafts.

In January its gonna be Scot McLaughin in yo face!

I hope so, I'm tired of losing!

Intersting names now popping up on waiver list:LB Zak Follett,OL Jamon Meredith,QB Jeff Garcia, sleeper RB Herb Donaldson!

anyone else notice similarities between THA GRINCH and a poster from a couple months ago, Spitblood?

Since our QB's can't really throw deep anyway (Alex can a little bit), wouldn't Jeff Garcia be an upgrade at QB?

Tell me, who do you think could more likely lead our first team down the field in the two minute drill and put the ball in the end zone, Alex Smith, Shaun Hill, or Jeff Garcia?

I'm not sure my money isn't going on Garcia. Not sure that it is either. Just a thought.

I think the bottom line is we have two NFL backups and a very inexperienced rookie who has the potential to be alright. Maybe a starter, but I'm not sure a star.

I have very high expectations for what QB we build our future
around, and as of now, I would have to say that I don't think that guy is on this roster. Not even close.

Why settle for anything less than excellence? We're talking about the 49ers right? We, more than anybody, know the importance of a great QB.

Wait and get the exact guy we want. We'll know.

Omg

After reading all the comments I think you have Sing all wrong he had to make the cuts he did I don't think anyone would want to lose Sheets but we have Gore and Glenn Coffee is looking great Sheets would have not playing time and that would be another roster spot taken. Barry Sims will go once we get someone who has good experince with Crabtree being money hungry I don't know who this guy think he is and Deion Sanders is all about money that's why he only lasted one year in SF for a guy that has not played a down you should not be asking for a lot but let him miss this year we have 2 first round picks Dez Bryant anyone see him play today. We are Golden and will make the Playoffs under the Samuri folks.

I would think the 49ers would be more comfortable with Garcia at #2 than Smith, but I'm sure someone will explain why he isn't, probably oneniner.

lol. We got some regular mike and mikes on here, huh?

I remember Coach Sing discussing Garcia when he was unsigned, his feeling at that time was that Garcia did not improve our team over the QB's we already have.

I was really starting to like are running game with Sheets in there as the home run threat. Now if Gore goes down were stuck with Coffee who is physical with an F and Robinson who is physical as well, with no change of pace back. Robinson is a great special teamer and a beast of a hitter but he is not a halfback. That experiment has already failed!

and how in the world did Marcus Hudson win a job over Eric Green!

The reason M Robinson was kept over Kory Sheets is simple; special teams. Robinson can block, tackle and he hits so hard he got the best of P Willis(who injured his ankle) in the nut-cracker drill.

Does anyone know if this means that Jennings and Ulbrich make the 10-year club? Or, do they have to play a full season for that?

I can't say I agree with Grinch and Raptor but they do have a point; the jury is definitely out on S McCloughan. I'm hopeful S Hill can gut out a few extra wins for us this year - and why not more looks to J Hill. They sure had chemistry last year.
As MM said, this team looks 6-10 on paper. It just goes to show the importance of ownership. It looks like Jed York wants to win more than he loves money unlike his Dad - we'll see. I'm wasn't exactly thrilled with the choice of (we're not trying to outsmart anybody)Singletary. Ommm, Mike see Walsh vs. Ditka. Outsmarting the other team really does work sometimes. But then, you should know that already because you were on those teams. Still, Sing is an upgrade over that other Mike. In the end it all comes down to ownership - just look at how many very good players the Warriors have had over the years and they continually screw it up.

Isn't today the last day to sign before Crabs misses a game check? If he doesn't sign today, it seems to be less probable that he will sign at all, right?

Question: Isn't today the last day to sign before Crabs misses a game check?

My response: He has until the day before the game to get a game check for that week. So he'll miss his first game check if he's not signed by Saturday, Sept. 12. --Matt M.

Garcia is a WCO QB to the core. I think he'll end up in GB to back-up Rodgers.

Fast- means speed... Something that the offense has lacked for several years! (Unless you count the fastest run blocking tight end in the NFL)

Gore isn't exactly the iron man and tends to get banged up so having more than 1 capable back-up would be logical. (I'm not counting special teams ace M-Rob because we've seen how ineffective he is as a runner.) Sheets would be a great change of pace back to compliment Gore and Coffee, but it's about the #'s and there is a high probability that he will clear waivers since he went undrafted due to "questionable character". He'll probably make the roster next year when Rossum is not around. He can work on his blocking and kick return game on the P-Squad...

I think a concern this year might be with Joe Nedney I know everyone love him but it looks to me that he could not kick past 40 yards anymore. And also his kickoffs have been going to the ten yard line or out of bounds sometimes. I know alot of people like the guy and I do to but maybe it's time to start looking if he has trouble early in the season

1.) Best thing this off season - Glen Coffee

2.) Worst thing - Letting Kory Sheets go

Scot McCloughin needs to address the Crabtree situation. Where is the guy? Im mean it is really his tail if this deal does not go down he did homework on this guy you cant let ur #1 pick go unsigned and yes Crabtree isnt helping but thats why GM's are suppossed to check how these guys characters r. I say this Crabtree situation will determine McClueless job unless the Niners have a great year.

Drew Pashos caught my eye also, he's certainly an upgrade to Sims.

Matt, what was the Marvel Smith deal worth? Pashos was looking to hang onto his 4.3mil and forced his release.

Marvel wasn't paid that well was he? I can't recall the terms but, I seem to think he was originally given a 2 year gig? Do you know the dollar amount?

Question: what was the Marvel Smith deal worth? Marvel wasn't paid that well was he?

My response: Marvel Smith did not receive a signing bonus. Almost all of his money was tied to his being able to play. He will count just $150K against the cap because that's what he earned as part of a workout bonus. --Matt M.

You know what I find sad about the crabtree thing? Al Davis is looking awfully smart at this point. My feeling is based on how ridiculous Crabtree has acted, he would have held out for more money even if he was the number one pick. Nothing is ever good enough for jerks like him. Good riddence.

Interesting take from Florio at PFT. He thinks the Niners are crazy if they don't request a tampering investigation in light of comments from NFL employee Primetime.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/06/niners-should-insist-on-tampering-investigation/

I'm so tired of this Crabtree situation and hesitate to throw a log on the fire, however I did find it rather disconcerting that the league made such a quick judgement about possible tampering. The word on the street is that "tampering" is a common practice and minor infractions are kept sub rosa as a kind of unspoken agreement between teams. If this is so are the 49ers merely taking the "highroad" when a team spokesman said there were no conversations with other teams before the deadline about a trade? Or Is this just a case of more ill advised intervention in the Crabtree camp by Mr PRIMEego, a man who really seems to have an opinion about himself!?

Someone refresh my memory.....how long is it before we know who clears waivers and goes to the practice squad?

You're down a TD in late 4th Quarter. Who gets the swing pass, Robinson or Sheets? One gives you four yards, the other a breakaway possiblity. Take a wild guess & remember, over the past four years the Niners have had the most boring (worst) offensive in the NFL.

Matt -what is the timeline on practice squad signings after the cuts 24 hours?

Sorry half asleep I guess, my question is essentially something you just asked!

The other thing about Sheets with his speed is just the threat of the Home Run. The D has to respect his speed, so maybe the attention he draws loosens outside coverage on the X or inside coverage on the Y. Its too bad.
There's always a few guys you hate to see go away, and that gets worse as the team gets better. I was pleased to see them keep RJF and the promising young Safety.

It will be today sometime . . . not sure about the time . . . probably about the same time the cuts were announced yesterday - 1PM - 2PM.

My biggest worry AGAIN - is the line play. We yet again can't seem to get any consistant penetration from the DL and "pass rush" will be relegated to biltz packages. That strategy is risky at best since we really haven't found an OLB uniquely skilled that way.
That first unit against San Diego the other night looked a lot like the Raider front.

The OL had its moments this preseason run blocking, but pass blocking again looks shakey. I saw a lot of "look out blocks" against Dallas in pass protection - and our QB quality obviously needs all the time possible for our 15 yard down field throws and check offs (not Nate though - guy's got a gun).

Through our long and noble history the ability to pressure the quarterback has made everyone look better and given the Offense great fiel position. Without a pass ruch a defense exposes everyone.

Good article.

I think this Crabs situation further brings a light to the poor leadership at this team. At this point management should be calling out that little puke Crabs. Let's face it, either Crabs is going to cave and play this year or he has already decisded "F the niners". Since we are a week away I am guessing he is blowing us off, we have been screwed out of the 2009 NFL draft, so screw Crabs. Management should also be demanding an investigation, but this team has no stones, so it will not happen.

For those of you hoping for a crappy record by either us or Carolina....stop! Just think we some how wind up the #1 & #2 next year (NIGHTMARE!). That would be a salary curse! Look what the Smith thing did to us. A couple of picks between 10 - 16 would be fantastic. Let's just hope Scot is not making the call.

Lastly when the "face of the team" is your coach you have a HUGE problem. I was so hoping this guy was the answer but he just ran a TC like an old school moron. Bass tore a foot...tore a foot in a worthless drill. Willis junked up an ankle proving he is a man. Dammit he is pro bowl, he does not need to prove anything. We are damn lucky that is all that happened. Lets just hope these guys are not completely worn out. After thinking about it one reason we may have looked so bad against the Bolts is becasue we might just be flat ass worn out! Anyone think of that? Clements can't keep up because his legs are gassed from doing worhtless nutcracker drills.

Just a thought...maybe we looked like hell in SD because of the stupid old school TC Coach RaRa ran. Clements keeps getting burned because he legs are SHOT! Go nutcracker! Can Coach RaRa even spell offense or game plan? Remember how much time Walsh used to spend on plans. He used to make guys look STUPID! Those were the days. Maybe it will all be a miracle and we will be great Week 1, but i think we have a case of "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

I was surprised to read that Dion Sanders met with Sing on at least one occasion to talk about Crabtree. I'm not a huge fan of Scott McC as a personal man, but this makes me really question Sing's judgment.

And why in the heck was Sanders trying to sell the 49ers (the 10th pick) on Crabtree when the Crabtree camp was so cock sure he was a first five pick??? Wouldn't Neon & Crabs time be better spent clothes shopping?

I wish you fellas with tiny brains would shorten your posts. There's too many ridiculous statements to debunk all at once.

Skeebers, so you don't think there is merit to any of those comments? Can you critically think? Spare me.

Here is one, Raiders give up a #1 to NE for RS. Seems like a really big reach. Belicheat is at it again, he will probably turn that #1 into three picks and rebuild the entire defense.

NE just finished cutting 2 of their #3 picks from last year. You would go ballistic if that happened to McC's picks. And, no, I don't think there's much merit to your theories about our TC or Crabtree or our management or Singletary or people being too tired from a drill performed over a month ago. I notice we came out of this TC as healthy as any I can remember.

Great post Pomeoyboys. The two divas clothes shopping, I love it!

Skeebers,

When you have a talented roster you can cut third-round draft choices. When you have no talent, well, it's a different story.

The Pats have plenty of bandwagon fans... You'd fit right in.

The message Sigletary & Co. are sending by their selections, is that last year's team is good enough to make it to the playoffs. The additions will get little time on the field and their contributions will be insignificant (except Coffee). I personally don't feel last year's team can make it to the playoffs competing against a very confident Arizona team and a better Seattle team. Cory Sheets provided a nice change of pace which is something you would need when your power running game boggles down (example: San Diego's backfield). This coaching staff has a one track mind.

Imaginary, you miss the point. No team is good enough to waste 3rd round picks, especially two in one draft, one of those picks having been acquired via a trade, meaning the trade value was lost also. But the reality is that ALL teams occasionally miss on a pick. The Pats are not perfect and neither is anyone else. If the Pats had not gotten lucky with Brady, I wonder if anybody would even be discussing them.

For those worried about Sheets according to MM the 49ers have signed him to the practice squad.

According to Matt, Kory Sheets is officially on the practice squad ;-)

Barrows reports that Sheets and Boone have signed to the practice squad.

How about OAK trading their '11 1st to NE for Seymour?

As bad as things have been for us 49er fans the last few years we can always take solace in not having Al Davis running the ship.

A "most likely" high 1st for a DE pushing 30 who has been on the decline somewhat for a few years now and wants a huge payday next year, that's about as bad as it gets.

DId our first team score a TD in pre-season?
