The 49ers began their on-field preparations for their first GPS game (*-see below) of the season this morning with a brief walk-through. The main practice begins at 12:50 p.m., as the 49ers get ready to face the Seahawks on Sunday in a battle of NFC West unbeatens.

Coach Mike Singletary and some of the players were already available to the media to go over some of the issues . . .

--The Seahawks have a receiver they awarded a $15 million signing bonus, and he's around and making a difference. Singletary said T.J. Houshmandzadeh "adds more to what they already had."

--The Seahawks also managed to sign a player at No. 4 money despite the fact some mock drafts had him going No. 1 overall. LB Aaron Curry has replaced Julian Peterson, who was sent to Detroit, and he's doing pretty much exactly what Peterson had been doing in previous seasons.

--Singletary said he hopes the play of David Baas and Adam Snyder will improve this week now that they've had another "week under their belts." Even with that, veteran Tony Pashos is expected to work into the mix a little more at right tackle, along with Snyder, this week.

--It'll be a cover-by-committee, as the 49ers look to contain second-year tight end John Carlson, who had 95 yards receiving and two touchdowns in the opener against the Rams.

--Receiver Brandon Jones, who sustained a broken shoulder blade Aug. 6 during 49ers training camp, will return to practice today. He'll wear a black jersey, which makes it known that defensive players are not allowed to touch him. Singletary said he'll know more about the Jones' availability after practice Thursday.

--Singletary said adjustments will be made on offense, but the 49ers will continue to do what they feel gives them the best chance to win. "I really don't think about teams looking at our film," he said. "Hopefully, going forward there will be other film to look at, as well."

--Shaun Hill said he never reads much into the game plan. He executes what's asked of him. "I have to stay patient," he said.

--He remained patient and hit the 50-yard pass last week to Isaac Bruce. Hill admitted that he missed that throw to Bruce a lot more in practice than he connected. But he said the repetition of the route, and knowing Bruce's body language, was a reason that play was successful against the Cardinals.

--Last time the 49ers played the Seahawks, TE Vernon Davis got an unnecessary roughness penalty, and Singletary banished him to locker room. It was safety Brian Russell who provoked Davis into the penalty last year. Russell is no longer on the Seahawks, but he expects to hear a lot of chirping on Sunday. Davis says, "I'm sure they're going to try to do something to . . . try to get me to go back to the locker room. But it ain't happening."

--Singletary postgame rant became a national phenomenon, and the motivation for an entire 49ers marketing campaign. "I'm surprised," Davis said. "I didn't think it was going to blow up as much as it did."

*-Global Positioning System. In this context, a GPS game provides an indicator of precisely where the 49ers rank in the NFC West after a Week 1 victory over the Cardinals. OK, and I'll admit I caved into a public that demanded the GPS designation for the game Sunday against the Seahawks at Candlestick.

How can Sunday's game against the Seahawks be considered a GPS game? If the Niners win it will only prove we can beat two crappy NFC West teams. The real indicator of where we stand as a team is in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings. If the Niners keep up with the Vikes on the road it will prove they are a good team.

MM, no b.s., but I could swear that I've heard someone use the term "GPS game" on NFL network or ESPN at some point in the recent past. I know for a darn near fact I've heard it used on KNBR. I had no idea you made it up! Good stuff!

Question: How can Sunday's game against the Seahawks be considered a GPS game? If the Niners win it will only prove we can beat two crappy NFC West teams.

My response: Because, for now, it does not matter how the 49ers compare to other teams in the league. All that matters is that they're the best team in the NFC West. That's how they can assure themselves of a playoff appearance. --Matt M.

"--The Seahawks have a receiver they awarded a $15 million signing bonus, and he's around and making a difference. Singletary said T.J. Houshmandzadeh "adds more to what they already had." "

ahhh sounds like it could be a little verbal jab at Crabtree. If so, Way to go Sing!!

Hey Matt great work as always. How much do you think this GPS game will really tell Sunday and the near future for the 49ers going forward?

Every game matters from now on but the real litmus test comes against the Vikings at noon. This will tell us in a big way where we are and what we need to get better in a hurry. All l pray for is a respectable score because l don't think we match up well.

..ok.....at least you admit you caved into a public that demanded it....

...I must have missed the petition or Protest for this demand......I thought crabtree was the main issue

Is it a GPS game?- sure if MM says it is....

...then i guess it is also a GPS game for S.Hill - we get to see how CONSISTENT he his...

It is fair - right?

Hey Matt great work as always. How big of a game do you think this really is for the 49ers and there season this early on? I believe a win could really cement the players' confidence, trust, and really buy into what singletray is selling. And change the mentality to being "winners"

Even with a win against the Seahawks on Sunday, I'm not a believer. Maybe after mid-season but even then, hard nosed teams often fade in the second half of a season because of injuries and fatigue. Still looks like a 0.500 year to me, at best.

In conference play the good teams hold serve. We need to implement more play action to open up the run. Also on a side note. I hope this Crabtree thing resolves soon. He's a beast on Madden.

Matt,
I was wondering if Crabs is upset about the crying story from earlier this year. I remember him denying the story, and saying he doesn't cry.

Whoa Mike slow down here!

The 49ers are not looking at anything else but the Seahawks & so am I. The Viking game will come soon enough but this is the ONLY game worth talking about not to mention that it's a Divisional game which is HUGE if the 49ers win. How about 2-0 in the Division & it's only the 2nd game of the season? I'll take that & twice on Sundays!

exactly, get hot for the playoffs, just like AZ last year

Sing didn't say he cried either.

hey Matt, great work. Of all the 49ers media, you are the most logical. I feel ray ratto and kawakami(i think that's his name) are so negative with the 49ers. We just beat the NFC Champs! for those that say we don't match up well with the Vikings, there whole offense revolves around Peterson. remember what happened in his rookie year? lowest total of his career. We match up very well IMO We will win the west. Go 9ers

I know, but somebody with such a fragile ego. Would take any perceived slight overly personal. Especially with people around him instigating the situation.

.. makin a comment unrelated to this..plz forgive me..

..an ignorant 58yr old commented on oneniner recently "I know what you are"

...oneniner just wanna inform the ignorant 58yr old that. - You Lie!!!

just in case you dont know, oneniner is one the people who served this great country proudly so old farts like the 58yr old can spew their ignorant and hateful opinions on blogs like this.....its cuz of people like the 58yrs old, oneniner will continue to do what he does.....cuz to oneniner there is no un-american.....we are one whether you like it or not....

The Seahawks are the class of the NFC West. It's a GPS game, and it better not turn into a WTF game.

We need to put Hasselback on his back to have any chance.

Nice dig on Crabtree...

"The Seahawks also managed to sign a player at No. 4 money despite the fact some mock drafts had him going No. 1 overall."

You should copyright the GPS Game thing. It's very descriptive. You could write a national story on the GPS Game of the week for whichever game fit the description that week.

"it better not turn into a WTF game."

Hahahaha!

If they can harass Hasselback like they did Warner, the Niners win. I have pretty good faith in the Niners run defense. 7 offensive coordinators in 7 seasons, we all know this, but the offense has to get rolling in a hurry...like yesterday.

I sure hope our offense plays better. I remember a couple of years ago when we started 2-1, but the wins were oh so ugly. I know a win is a win, but back then, I knew the ugly was a harbinger of worse things to come.

The D is much better now, and the O isn't run by Smith (or Dilfer?) so I do have much more confidence. It would be nice for the players confidence to play with more crispness and chew up some yardage this weekend.

Go Niners.

Thank you for your service OneNiner!!! Why have you changed since then would be my only question.I guess for the same reason you changed from a once loyal Niners fan to the hatefilled pathetic creature we see now ?

Matt:
i noticed i had a comment (or 2) come off the board last post. I apologize if i said something offensive. I love the Blog its seriously my favorite 9ers writing, as well as 49ers discussions, and im just an emotional guy who as trouble sugar coating. but if i said something offensive i apologize and like Vernon Davis ill keep my emotions in check!!

with that being said, i agree this is a big game, GPS well idk but they say hind sight is 20/20 and we will know in a few weeks! Lets not 4get Sea was a very good team and the year in year out favorites for a long time in this divison. Hass looks much better(he was a pro bowl QB), they finally have a number one playmaker again, a TE playing how we wish our TE was playing and some Defensive playmakers. At this point i gotta believe they are the favorites to win the division. and this will be huge when the game is over and the score is 9ers 23 hawks 13!!!!

GO NINERS!!

My hope is that Seattle comes in with an arrogance much like the Cards had last week. Granted, they shouldn't cause all they did was beat possibly the worst team in the NFL at home, but if they do, the Niners will have a much better chance. I think Hasselback is much like Warner, not very mobile, but if you let him sit in the pocket it'll be trouble. Although a few hits on him and he'll crumble like a cookie.

The infamous personal foul against Davis reminded me of a play in Sunday's game. I find it interesting that that personal foul they called on Vernon in the Seattle game last year was just a real light upward tap under the guys facemask but the Cardinal who grabbed Moran Norris' facemask Sunday after a run to the right and pushed or punched him in the facemask right infront of one of the officials got no call at all. I think it was in the 2nd half. Glad to see these officials are as consistant as ever.

We're gonna beat the seahawks so bad, PETA is gonna come after us!

Matt, quick question. Has Mike Leach said anything about the Crabtree situation? He gave him his seal of approval as a fine team player. Do you think he will talk some since into him when Crabs goes to the TT vs TX game?

Anybody Catch Sings interview right now with Ralph and Tom?

You can always count on tom to ask the good/reasonable questions.

Was Ralph his usual hatefilled self rightous looney left self?

Not really but it did seem like he was kissing ass towards the end.

He brought up the sound bit of sing saying 1 day he would be the greatest coach in the nfl and said somethign around the linds of it being bold or something. im not 100% on the words because my computer was glitching but sing answered back with a funny that had them all laughing.

it was about the cracked helmets he had in college. he was making it seem like those days rattled his brain a little bit. it was good stuff

But Ralph will be back ripping Sing and Scott and Paraag etc etc ,as soon as sing is off the air and can't answer back. Ralph reminds me of a once proud 49ers fan on this blog, who now hates the Niners and apparently hates everything he once held dear, lol

Hey Matty Ice (the original)

Do you think they might be able to use Mike Nolan's sub package scheme since it worked effectively last year?
I know Seattle offense looks well improved but so does the 9ers Defense.

Hey Oneniner!
Thank you for your service. I can not tell you how proud I am of our military and what they do.

I mean this sincerely Oneniner. God Bless you and Thank You!

GilroyAL: I also was upset about that non call of the personal foul, along with the non call of the pass interference in the end zone(actually double interference,he grabbed our receiver AND he faceguarded the receiver, without any attempt to look back towards the ball). We can only hope that the refs don't ruin every game every week.

Don Banks and his Power Ranking 9ers 16 -
"Having 203 yards of offense, just 13 first downs and 21 yards on the ground won't get it done against too many opponents, but the 49ers defense was good enough to make those meager numbers work at Arizona. Step two in San Francisco's return to relevance would be a similar showing this week at home against division rival Seattle. A 2-0 start in the NFC West and we're going to have to take Mike Singletary's club for real."

Hi Matt, It's been so long since the 49ers were in games that meant something, anything. The Seahawks during the past years have dealt an early knockout blow to the 9ers before halftime that made the second half meaningless. Let's hope we can get the run game going and stick it to them. Matt, you and other columinists should write about the rules changes that are changing the game. The hit by Wilfolk against the Bills was textbook. Some of the hits that Joe took against the Giants (1990 nfc championship game by Leonard Marshal being one) would today result in the defensive player being suspended.

This game is bigger than the Vikings game. Last weeks win was huge. A win this week would be enormous. Keep in mind the Niners only need to be better than the other three teams in our division. Look at AZ last year, they only won 9 games, 6 wins were in the division and they made it to the Super Bowl. We have the Rams in week 4, if we start out 3-0 in division we will be sitting pretty.

Agree it's a GPS game.
If the D-line repeats it’s a GPS (Guaranteed Post Season) because of its GPS (Great Pass Stuffing) and final GPS (Get Passing Seneca.)
If we can get 4 plus yards per carry, it’s also GPS (Grunts Penetrating Secondary.)
If Hill has an 80 plus QB rating, it’s GPS (Great Passing System.)
If we can GPS (Group Pass Scheme) tight end John Carlson, it’ll be GPS (Get Prince Schizo). Wide Receiver coach is Howard Prince.

Mike, those "two crappy NFC West teams" have both reached the Superbowl in the last 3 years! Not to mention they were each just one bad call away from winning the Superbowl. Don't let the so-called experts in the media convince you that our division is weak. And don't be surprised if another NFC West team ends up in the Superbowl in the next few years. Namely the San Francisco 49ers!

GPS (Gonna Plow Seattle)

GPS (Getta Pick Six)

I agree the East Coast bias does exist so the NFC West gets NO respect, but that can be cured with some regular season wins over some of the supposedly good teams in the other divisions. Remember, the Niners were the first team from the NFC West to win a game east of the Mississippi when they beat the Bills late last year. I for one would love to see a Niner victory in Philly and/or Green Bay. That would go along way to prove we're on the road back to respectability.

Hey oneniner, I knew there was a reason I liked you... me too, by the way...10yrs enlisted, 10yrs mustang...now I'm just an old fart.

Ok. It's official. Oneniner has jumped the shark. I've rarely seen him to be correct but always find him amusing in a, "can't help but look at an auto crash",kind of way, but now he's starting to worry me. Other than being Oneniner One Note on Alex Smith I don't get your point or your problem with Matt. We all need the Lowell Cohn's of the world who live a life of negativity and the constant, unrelenting need to provoke others. but please, keep the discourse at a civil level. Bottom line, very few of us know what the heck we are talking about on this blog. Let's have fun and be kind to each other. Hang in there Oneniner, ever ybody needs one.

Nastysteve: I caught your comments at 9/16/09 12:17pm about Crabtree/Parker and Sanders and, unfortunately, I have to agree. There must be another deal in place with another team. Or Crabtree is incredibly ignorant and naive and without anyone else with common sense around him. I can't blame the 49ers for this; it was unforseeable. I will say this: if I'm a GM from another team, there's ZERO chance that I'd draft another Parker client.

darn, Unforeseeable. Sorry about the spellin'.

I agree with Top Cat's comment: "Thank you for your service OneNiner!!! Why have you changed since then--would be my only question. I guess for the same reason you changed from a once loyal Niners fan to the hate-filled pathetic creature we see now ?"

And why does he think that being YOUNGER is equivalent to being BETTER (than the 58-year-old person he is insulting by his name calling)?

Why can't bloggers stand on their own 2 feet and communicate their IDEAS instead of always retort in insulting language? It doesn't add strength to their posts; it debases them. Intelligent comments adds strength, not negative, stinging replies.

MATT--One question: Why is S/SF the GPS #1 game for us--and not #2? Is it because Seattle and San Francisco are tied after Game 1 of the regular season? And does each DIVISION (8) have separate GPS groupings? Does the GPS rating refer only to divisional matchups?

Niner Mom

I agree this is a GPS game. Beating Seattle would be huge. Getting the offense going would be a bonus.

I forgot to add one other thought to my comment: what does serving your country have to do with claiming it as an excuse for being a LOUSY 49ers fan?

They are two separate worlds: one is a universal following of orders (military); they other (blogging) is leading with very specific punches in a football blog. Your thinking publicly must stand on its own--without a crutch to hang on to: serving your country.

If you are going to be a FAITHFUL, thinking 49ers fan, then try to be more objective and fair in your comments instead of sounding like the enemy!

Niner Mom

Matt, I never got an answer regarding Crabtree's anger over the media reports of him crying. I know that wasn't Singletary's exact quote, but that was how the media covered and sensationalized it. I only find it interesting because those were Crabs last public statements. Hopefully some journalist will ask him the tough questions at the Texas Tech vs Texas game.

Anybody knows me, knows I've never cried," Crabtree said. "I don't understand where this stuff comes from. Say I'm passionate about football. I don't cry. I never had. I don't know who said what but Michael Crabtree does not cry."

"Not true," Crabtree said. "Nobody had to run because I was late for a meeting. That's crazy. No. I've never been late to a meeting."

GPS games are mostly for the teams that are lost in mediocrity or worse because thats where they find out if they're getting better or not. The AZ game means nothing if they don't play well against Seattle. Most of the really good teams have only one or two regular season GPS games if any each year.
The really huge NFC GPS games the Niners have this year will be on the road against Minnesota, Philly and Green Bay. If the Niners can get a couple victories there, we'll know they're back on the right track.

I think we will give the Seahawks an old fashioned beat down. We need this game badly to take command of the west. Lets roll.

I want to agree with others that the insults that accompanied posts is over the top at times.

Matt doesn't have the time to watch over the board. So some self-control from calling others names and getting personal in posts should be the standard. One doesn't have to degrade a person, just state why you disagree. We all have opinions, let's just share them politely.

just read that Davis Baas (biceps) is on the injury report. i dont even care if the guy is probable. its just the point. this guy cant stay healthy!!! is that the bicep that this guy hurt one or two seasons ago!!!

The thing that makes me hopeful about Sunday is the fact that we managed to put pressure on Warner WITHOUT having to resort to exotic blitzing. I have always felt that a team which HAS to blitz to put pressure on the QB is playing with fire, and will get burned sooner or later.

The Seattle receivers are not nearly as good as Arizona's. If Harrelson and Lawson can put pressure on Hasselbeck on Sunday we should be able to contain the Seahawks offense.

Trust me I hope its not the case but really nothing else makes sense unless he really is that ignorant and naive.

Thank you and I couldn't agree more.Just a quick aside -the notion that fulfillment of public duty is somehow the property of a particular generation or age group and that the previous generations owe the younger generation "so they can spew their ignorant and hateful opinions" is an absurdity. Without the long lineage of sacrifice leading to this moment(most of which is unrecorded and unknown) it is conceivable that the present generation simply would not exist. Therefore if respect is owed it should always begin with that which has preceded. Enough! GPS SMEE-PS this is an important game.I think most of us knew when the schedule was released, the divisional contests early on would be one of the key subplots in this years quest. Win or Lose this will be great battle, I trust.Coach will have them prepared! 2-0 ? What do you say !?!

I haven't looked forward to a Niner game like this for a long time. It's going to be a cracker. One for the ages. I think the Niners have the edge but it isn't by much.

My prediction: Niners win 24-20. Offensive player of the game: Josh Morgan. Defensive: Parys Haralson

Words of wisdom that pertain to everybody, not just you: if you state your opinion as such then you deserve common courtesy in regards to it, but when somebody states their opinion like it's a fact and it's wrong then they're asking to get jumped on with both feet. That's just reality.

First of all, thanks for the link. It was a very interesting article. One of the interesting things from that article is that after Crabtree "...opened his mouth", "Teams such as the receiver-needy Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks began looking in other directions." So "don't rewrite history" yourself.

Also, (I can't believe I'm saying this) I agree with Oneniner that you crossed the line. Calling someone a "traitor" and "un-american" just because you don't agree with them is over the line. Be careful that you don't become a "hateful pathetic creature" yourself.

I see that you are very loyal to 49ers management. Your opinion is that they are doing a "great" job. My opinion is that the current 49ers management are doing a fair job. Is it improving? It very possibly could be but I am not convinced yet. This is an interesting discussion and one everyone should continue. Not agreeing on this issue does not mean I am not a huge fan of the niners. It just means I think management could do better and could have done better over the last 7 or so years.

Please tone down the rhetoric but keep the discussion coming.

Matt this Crabtree thing is very confusing if the Owner-President of the team sends letters to u and ur agent a week ago shouldnt you respond by now? What kind of agent is this? Do you think a meeting between them will ever take place?

Matt: I guess I must have missed the explanation of the GPS game because I don't understand and fans' comments are confusing me even more...talking about on the road games to non-divisional opponents.

Please explain so I'm not in the dark about this brain-chld of yours.

Niner Mom

Niner Jan, it's a cliche` to check our 'GPS' or position, in relationship to our Division Peers.

Are we gaining/losing ground?

We go 2-0 at the close of business on NFL Sunday and I'd venture to say, our GPS would be GOLDEN.

This is easily a GPS game for the Niners...Go Pound Seattle. Hopefully they can turn it into a GPS game for the Seahawks...Go Pound Sand! I hope Seattle crowds the line of scrimmage and that Raye remembers one of Walsh's principles: you can pass to set up the run. However, one of the things not mentioned much in going over the AZ game was the fact that by sticking to the run even when it wasn't working, the Niners had that little extra advantage in play action when they went to the air to win the game. Get the linebackers and the strong safety on their tippy-toes because they're all happy about testosteroning the run and then slip by them for the pass! We'll see.

Matt,

The Seahawks broke the slotting system to sign curry. He received more guaranteed money than the #2 and #3 picks. His contract is much larger than those around him, including Mark Sanchez, a QB.

http://www.nfl.com/draft/story?id=09000d5d810d9ec2&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true

The Seahawks didn't break the slotting system. Everyone around Curry signed for 5 years. Curry signed for 6 years. When you average it out, he signed for the exact slot amount you'd expect.

Marco- I agree. If you disagree with someone, make you own case with your own facts and opinions. If it's so obvious that you're right, why should that be hard. Name calling is so kindergarten, and implies that you don't really have a good arguement for your opinion. I enjoy reading the posts of everyone who makes a good arguement for their opinion. I skip over the personal attacks.

Anybody an espn insider read Shefters' report on Mr. Crabs being a NY Jet?

....I am not going to continue bring attention to the issue...

....Everyone has a right to be dumb and stupid.....

I just wished MM would let me counter some of this ignorant statements the way i want to.....

...but then again this is just plain entertainment......so no worries...

Haven't you guys heard. Rude is in. It's hip to be an a-hole. Ask Kanye, Serena, Joe Wilson, Sheila Jackson Lee, etc. Since I'm a cool guy I just have to say... You 2 are imbeciles!

I'm kidding of course. I don't mind a little passionate name calling but sometimes people do cross the line on this blog.

He's probably read a lot of your posts and decided to follow the old literary quote about not suffering fools gladly.
About everybodys "right" to be dumb and stupid, thankfully 'most' of us choose not to exercise that right.

Marc-NJ pretty much hit it. A Global Positioning System (GPS) literally is a navigational tool that allows you to locate a specific geographical location/destination.

In the clichéd sense of the word, this game is representative of the 49ers' "GPS device." It will tell 49ers how close they are to their "destination," which in this case would be a NFC West Division Title (or, possibly a little further). If the Niners win, they're closer...lose, then maybe not so much.

Sorry so long winded, hopefully not confusing though ;)

Mr. Maiocco, saw you on espn 1st take this morning. Good job but don't be afraid to show a little more personality. Let loose with some of that italian flamboyance. Good to see NFL Network showing the 49ers a little love. Mel Kiper Jr. is way off base IMO stating Mr. Crabs will go top 10 next year. How can he make such an absurd statement? I hope he's not losing it 'cuz I can't help but like Mel.

This is why these college kids can overvalue their worth in the NFL. Mel Kiper Jr. has never been a GM or coach in the NFL but he gets a lot of attention because he gives his OPINION on ESPN. If he was that good judging talent wouldn't some team, especially one doing poorly talentwise hire him as a consultant? He's into the celebrity gig.

Mel Kiper Jr. is just part of the hype machine.... essentially part of the problem. Rating Crab high in the first place. Talking him up. Saying the combine wasn't necessary. Expect more of this banter over the next 7 months. Who is pulling who's strings. It makes for interesting journalism and something to talk about.

I just can't believe Crabtree decided to take this thing the whole way, at least as far as it has gotten...thus, not put an end to it by saying "let me sign get millions and just play football already."

There is no way Crabtree is a simpleton, a rape victim, or suffering from Stockholm syndrome... ALL decisions at this point are coming from Crabtree. He is not the second coming of Rice, Moss or Harrison. If he was there is noway to predict this. Not one player has ever made a complete shift in team play, then arguably a QB. SO WHAT GIVE$...???

Comment: Matt, The Seahawks broke the slotting system to sign curry. He received more guaranteed money than the #2 and #3 picks.

My response: That statement is not true.

Curry signed a six-year deal, as opposed to the others who signed five-year deals. For instance, Tyson Jackson (No. 3) received a $9.8 million avg. per year and $6.2M avg. guaranteed per year. Curry signed a deal with an $8M avg. per year and $5.7M avg. guaranteed per year. --Matt M.

Comment: Matt: I guess I must have missed the explanation of the GPS game because I don't understand.

My response: It stands for Global Positioning System. Here's a short-but-sweet explanation I put on my Twitter page:

http://twitter.com/MattMaiocco/status/4054886524

--Matt M.

Matt,

This is a difficult question to answer, but considering the pay he is expecting, an important one to consider.

In your opinion, how good will Crabtree be at playing the WR position at the NFL level? What player would be a good comparison to him? Is he more comparable to a Hines Ward or a Wes Welker?

You did not ask my opinion but I'll throw it out there-potential Cris Carter.

The reason Crabass wants so much guaranteed up front is that he doesn't really want to play football. He knows he's scared to get hit so he wants his guarantee and run. He also knows he's not going to hang around for his second contract so this one is all there is. He's a fool and a poser.

From the Mercury News...
Put Shaun Hill under the fire and things tend to come out well done.

He led a fourth-quarter comeback against Cardinals in the season
opener. In his final two games last season, he led fourth-quarter
comeback against the Rams (touchdown pass to Josh Morgan with 1:31
left) and another against the Redskins (moving team 52-yards through
the air in final 1:09 to set up winning FG).

Since the start of 2008, Hill ranks among the league's best in the
fourth quarter. (Thanks to Mike Chasanoff of the team's media
relations staff for passing along this chart)

Fourth-quarter QB Rating

Leaders since the start of last season .

1. Tony Romo, Dallas. 121.7
2. Philip Rivers, S.D. 114.6
3. Trent Edwards, Buff. 107.8
4. Shaun Hill, 49ers 102.1
5. Drew Brees, N.O. 97.9

And oneniner IS a traitor. He was once a loyal 49ers fan and now is a 49ers hater,we all know and agree with that, what did you think I meant? He should pick one of the other 31 teams that he doesn't hate and cheer for them,if they will have him. In a year or two,if they don't win it all or if they don't do everything in their front office or coaching staff that HE thinks is perfect,he will probably turn traitor on them,as he did on the Niners. It's just his nature to be a turncoat.(I may be wrong,I suppose it is possible that he NEVER was a 49ers fan and always hated the Niners and is just a troll ? In that case the traitor remark would be incorrect, sorry.)

Sorry Matt, I dont think we can call this a GPS game.

Simply put, this early in the year the Seahawks are as big an unknown as us. So killing them may not mean we're as good as one might believe, and a loss might not be as bad as people think.

Yes, this will tell us how we compare to a division rival, but how good this team is will still largely be up in the air.

...Oh yeah,to add another part to the S. Hill saga(that the Merc. News left out of their story)...Hill's QB rating on 3rd down in the Cards game was 137 !!! And we know that he had the #1 winning record in the entire NFC last season in games he started,of any QB !!!
Not too bad !

I've been asking that of this blog for week now.

Personally I see him as a Reggie Wayne or TJ. The size and "apparent" speed are similar. Having him in the slot like Welker, would fit his college style nicely but, drafting a slot in the top 10 is risky. The 9ers NEED someone to stretch the field and work himself open in 2 receiver sets. A stud that requires a double team most of the time. This will help free up the running game V. Davis over the top or our stud in the making Morgan.

I would like Matt's and other opinions as well?

Comment: Sorry Matt, I dont think we can call this a GPS game. Simply put, this early in the year the Seahawks are as big an unknown as us.

My response: Yes, that might be true, but think about it. There are only four teams in the NFC West. The Rams stink. If the 49ers win this game, they will have already beaten the two top contenders in the division. The 49ers will establish themselves as the early front-runner to win the division.

That's what we're talking about here, the NFC West. It's irrelevant where the 49ers stand among the other teams in the NFC. All they have to do is be the better team among the Rams, Cardinals and Seahawks. --Matt M.

"From the Mercury News...
Put Shaun Hill under the fire and things tend to come out well done."

That's a great descriptor for Shaun Hill. He wins ugly, but a W is a W.

Yes, but in spite of the road win, can you confidently say right now (or even next monday) that we're really a better team than the Cards?

Don't forget, we started 2007 with 2 division wins, too. That particular GPS reading was a little off, to say the least.

I think Hines Ward is a good comparison, I think they both played a little quarterback before shifting to WR. I see him as a physical, possession type receiver with a few moves to be able to get some yards after the catch. Definitely not a game breaking WR.

Gio, god i hope you are wrong.

98grl: Really, when did Crabs tell you all this inside info, lol
So many people claiming to KNOW exactly what Crabtree is thinking! I am so glad we have so many mind readers around,so we never need to worry about getting quotes or any facts ,etc.

There are NO guarantees when it comes to drafting. I remember when Bill walsh drafted Larry Roberts as the 1st draft pick (to be THE pass rusher for the Niners) and then a few rounds later Walsh drafted another guy to probably be Roberts backup . The backup? Charles Haley!
Nobody knows if Crabtree will be a star WR in the NFL,NOBODY !BUT he is THE ONLY wr in college football history to ever win the Balitnicoff award for being THE BEST wr in all the land ,TWICE. So,I guess you could jump the gun and say he was the greatest WR in the history of college football. So of course you can try to compare him to other receivers,BUT the fact is that he had outperformed them all, so far.
The point is that nobody knows how his skills will translate into the NFL. But he certainly has the talent and the potential to be special.

So Mel Kiper thinks Crabtree would be a TOP 12 pick in next years draft!! Wow!!

Well if Crabtree is thinking this(rightly or wrongly) then he is thinking he doesn't have much to lose by sitting out a year. I think he does but it sure doesn't seem like he will sign with the niners.

But Mel,if he is a top 12 pick,he will have lost millions of dollars by holding out a year. And whoever drafts him at #12,will never sign him if they don't overpay him ,so that he makes up that difference. And then he will still have wasted a year of his career and will need to wait an extra year to get to free agency. Crabtree can't win ,no matter what he does he will lose money and time .(unless there is tampering and he has a promise from some team that doesn't mind losing draft pick galore and cash galore etc ,in fines,if they are ever found out).
I still think he signs with us sooner or later(oh wait,it's already later).

I agree and disagree.

I've tried watching watching as much YouTube of Crabtree as possible. The scheme and those defenses he played, was like the perfect storm. Obviously didn't play any senior-bowl type of games, so the only eval we have is the Texas Tech film.

Ok with that said, stats and awards are one thing, actual NFL production is another. A. Boldin, A. Johnson, R. Wayne. Yet they are considered NFL elite.

College stats aside, Peter Warrick and Des Howard were suppose to be GREAT, and I would consider better college receivers then Crabtree. Yet they were huge disappointments.

I always wondered if Warrick and Howard would have fostered into great receivers if they were on a formidable team and had a good QB??? This could be a huge concern for Crabtree that relies heavily on a system to exploit his talent.

Of course I agree that Crabs may have benifited from the system they ran . But other WR's have had systems that made them look good but no other WR has ever won the Balitnicoff award twice, ever.
But as I stated, there are no guarantees. We have all seen many can't miss picks turn into pumpkins in the NFL. Potential is only that, potential. You can't take that to the bank as fans(only the players can taker huge amounts of money to the bank on potential and only until the NFL puts that rookie salary cap in place).

I don't understand why everyone is struggling with the GPS concept. The Niners won, but it was ugly. If they can handle their business this weekend and be atop the NFC West, then we know if we have a realistic chance of winning the division.

Crabtree is a great talent. Go back and look at Mississippi Valley State and you will find Jerry Rice didn't play against great dbs or defenses either. They ran a very pass orientated offense also. But Bill Walsh saw that talent. Crabtree will have to prove himself and I am not comparing him to the great Jerry Rice only his potential coming out of college. That talent is there for him to succeed if he lives up to those abilities.

I can understand fans not liking him for not signing, but the 49ers are still willing to play him millions so clearly they think he is a great talent.

This disagreement is about "slotting" and the amount they will pay him. Don't confuse it with anything else.

Absolutely agree, this is a GPS game. 2/0, not just in the league but in the division says a bumch, especially in the NFC West.

Side, off topic, note--it dawned on me this morning, where's all the nay-sayers calling for Nate to move to safety, to be cut, cause he's too old, too slow, not good enough to play CB? He had a helluva game vs one of the best WR's in the league. Dontcha think?

.."the #1 winning record in the entire NFC last season in games he started,of any QB !!!"

...omg.....see this is why i support abortions....

I am not saying that people should say whatever comes across their mind on here but easy with the censorship and asking everyone to be respectful on here....Respect is something that is earned and not given...Besides, if it weren't for rude bastards like me, the polite just wouldn't seem quite as polite...anyways, MM is right and this is a huge game for us just for the simple fact that we can take a stranglehold on the division, but to also establish home field dominance. Teams that play the style of football we have subscribed to play need to play well at home. The 'stick needs to be thought of as a tough place to come and get a win instead of teams going down thier schedule and circling a W in SF. On top of all this, winning cures all and each W put up makes Crabtree seem more and more ridiculous for holding out in the national media which hurts his reputation and future earning power. Each win on the field is a win in the court of public opinion too. At this point I think Crabs has no value to the team this year and would hate to see J. Hill lose a roster spot to him but if we keep winning then the pressure is gonna be squarely on Crabs for not being a contributor to a succesful franchise.

Niner Jan -
"a universal following of orders (military)"

Uh, no. I spent nearly 30 years in the military and have to laugh whenever people state that kind of crap. Soldiers have brains and use them just as much - and probably more as a whole - than civilians. There is no universal following of orders in the military. Getting people to follow orders requires leadership. Always has, always will.

Oneniner's point was about freedom of speach, nothing more. He says a whole lot of jackass things, but he accepts that everyone else can. too. That is what comes with swearing to preserve and defend the Constitution, against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I wish our elected representatives took their oaths as seriously as oneniner.

Now let's all cheer as the Niner's beat the Seahawks!

IKE: Isn't it true that Hill is undefeated at the Stick as a starter ? If he keeps that up it will be as you wish ,a great reputation for winning at home !
And another fact was that he was the QB with the most wins in the NFC last year during the time he was starting. Sorry if ONE anti-fan didn't like that FACT ! Or any of the other facts about hill, like his QB rating is over 90 and his 3rd down QB rating last week was 137 or that he is 8 wins against only 3 lost.
But then why do we care what that ONE 49ers hater thinks anyway?

Matt, to some of us just winning the division is nice but if they do it and still get beat up by good teams in the other divisions, so what! Seattle at the Stick is a gps division game but beating Philly and Green Bay on the road are the real NFC GPS GAMES. A winning record in the division is important but how many times in the 80s did we have to watch losses to the Falcons, Saints or Rams(arghhhh!) that were games the Niners were supposed to win? Too many because division games are so unpredictable. Getting road wins against all divisions was Walsh's strength. That is one thing that's not been mentioned enough about the AZ game. A win on the road is a real good start. As you know, some teams find it exremely hard to win on the road and Singletary has a few already. A very GOOD SIGN IMO!!

oneniner gets a bad rap in my opinion...I had a rant on him about being a S. Hill hater but he cooled off a bit because of the win. I always say that Hill has that moxy but we will see soon if he has the talent/ability to beat quality football teams. I still think Alex is the future of the franchise though, just like oneniner, but no sooner than next season. I liked the competition this year but Alex needs a full year in the playbook and another offseason in it wouldn't hurt as well. I can say that if Hill puts a full year together of being healthy and winning, that regardless of how ugly those wins come and even if it is only for one drive a game, it will be hard for Alex to ever unseat him as starter...anyways lay off oneniner cuz when it all comes down to it we were all happy sunday afternoon and hopefully it will happen again this Sunday

Crabs is a beast on Madden. I hope we get him on our real field. This whole mess has me checking the internet religiously. Hoping that we finally signed him.

And why does that ONE Niner hater(or just plain hater) need to keep bringing up politics, like his hatefull leftist remarks about Sarah Palin and Joe wilson and now his view about killing children in the womb etc etc ,it never stops with this guy !

This is a football site and we don't need to bring politics into the discussion. this is supposed to be a fun place to talk Niners and get away from the divisivness of every day life, politics included.
Please don't bring your political views into this site and then pretend to get offended when someone calls you on your hate.

Thank you !
Now back to football PLEASE .

......you know i am a die-hard football fan..

but i just have to give up to anyone who will keep pressing a QB rating for ONE GAME - as a measure of success

....i mean wht do i need to say to get Hill's stick out of his buccal cavity.....

Why not just say he his a hall of famer already....

A friend of mine once told me...“When arguing with a stone an egg is always wrong”......

and just to be clear...

oneniner IS a traitor. He was once a loyal 49ers fan and now is a 49ers hater,we all know and agree with that, what did you think I meant? He should pick one of the other 31 teams that he doesn't hate and cheer for them,if they will have him. In that case the traitor remark would be incorrect, sorry.)

And Crabtree is nowhere near a Hines Ward..(not that many are..that man is just a football player)..he seems most like Deion Branch to me just from watching tape and highlights of him. Also, Welker seems a bit more physical than Crabtree too...I wonder if Crabs can run block..he doesn't look that big.

...by the way....i do have to say that Adrian peterson run last week....was SICK....

Didn't spend 30 years in the service, just 2 1/2. Had to respond to your constitutional comments because it's a major pet peeve of mine. I find that most people that scream "It's my right to do this", the funny thing is they never want to talk about the responibilities that go along with those rights ie: your politicians. Like I said earlier, if it is a right according to oneniner to be dumb and stupid, most respnsible people choose not to exercise that right. Go Niners !!!!

Do you not agree that Hill has a QB rating for his career of about 90? Not one game, his career .(about 30 points higher than alex by the way, lol).
And don't you think that we only won the game last week because Hill had a QB rating of 137 on 3rd downs and had his usual QB rating for the game of about 90? If alex was in there I sure would hope that he did not match his QB rating of his career (63,lol).

...OMG...why did the devil send me a pest....

.....no dude - you cant irrumatio it....

...another friend of mine said....

...."The winner persistently programs his pluses; the loser mournfully magnifies his minuses.”

very clear thinking GilroyAl !!!
I respect anyone who served this country(as you can tell by my picture nexrt to my posts). Even oneNiner gets my respect for that past service, although we know him for his present dubious words and actions, not his commendable service that he claims happened sometime in his past.Just like he claims he was once a loyal 49ers fan,we know him around here as a 49ers hater. But he is entitled to his views, and we are entitled to dissagree. Great Country huh !!!

You're notorious for piecemealing the success of A.Smith, and using what you find to quantify his success. S.Hill, although small, has a body of work that is undeniably successful. The QB rating is just the icing on the cake bruh.

I must agree with you on that Peterson run though. I've seen it at least about 5 or 6 times and can't refrain from gasping at that stiff arm. That DB Wright should press charges for assault and battery, cus he got straight up abused.

Oneniner, you should change your handle to "one elipses".

... just playin' ....

LOL,If you read your last two posts in context, then I now understand you completely ,LOL.
Who is your "another friend" ,we know who the first friend you listed is,LOL
Sorry couldn't resist, you set me up so well.

If you are laughing along WITH me,then maybe your not so bad after all and we can somehow learn to get along.
Lets talk football and who knows,if we win a few more games you might even get on the bandwagon and be glad we have Jed and Sing and Scott and Shaun ?

what do you guys think about this supposed face to face meeting York has been asking for and recieved no answer on for a week now?? you think Parker would ever bring Crabs to a sitdown face to face with 9ers front office for anything other than when they finally agree to sign a deal??

Ike: i think if Parker does not respond in the affirmative, that might show that he has been keeping Crabs in the dark about what is the truth of this matter, and he fears Jed and Paraag speaking to him directly and enlightening him.

..wrong..i dont recall ever using just "stats" to prop up the success of A.Smith...

....Again maybe it must have missed your cerebral cortex which contains roughly 15–33 billion neurons depending on gender and age....

A.Smith is better for the niner because of his physical tools, he his young, he his coachable, he his a better marketing face for the franchise, he has achieved more success than hill in his overall football career ...

but like someone also mention - i am cool with him on the bench for now...

and i say this again cuz i saw something last week when he had his helmet on ..on the sidelines - as if he was told to get ready to come into the game......

trust me dude - if anything (and i know cuz i played sports) - there is nothing more motivating than the thought of getting benched....we saw it last year with Hill at stl.....most of you didnt notice but i saw it again last game.....Hill believed he was about to be benched....before that drive (he kept tryin to explain his actions to sing instead of just going straight to talk to the OC)

Now did he come true again ..Yes he did, good for him and US.....but i have every faith in believing the Owner and McGm want A.Smith in there....

So loudmouth can shout has much as he wants....as long as the people who run the org are aligned with my thoughts on A.Smith....

I am cool as a baby's face.....

Wishfull thinking and believing in fantasies is helpfull to Alex fans in denial.
But I hope that if Alex ever needs to get in a game for us that he plays well and wins the game.
But Nate Davis is the future and Hill is the present, and the team knows this now.Good luck to alex, wherever he plays in the future,he is a class guy.(not a very good football player but a good kid).

"(and i know cuz i played sports)": He definitely plays sports I think its called Pole-Sitting

"In the harbour town of Juelsminde in Jutland, groups of locals compete each August to see how long they can sit on wood poles. The maximum period allowed is four days - if more than one person lasts this long, they are both considered to be champion pole-sitters. "

POLE-SITTING is not a sport when the Wood pole belongs to a Backup 49er QB... Plus you have been on it for longer than 4 days so your disqualified.

Wishfull thinking and believing in fantasies is helpfull to Alex fans in denial.
But I hope that if Alex ever needs to get in a game for us that he plays well and wins the game.

Nate Davis is impressive physically but as far as being the future only time will tell...If A. Smith who by all acounts is very intelligent has trouble grasping a playbook how the hell can the niners ever switch an O-coordinator if Nate the Great is the franchise...Now for some sandlot football Nate is great cuz he just looks like he can go out and make plays, but to actually run a structured offense with complex gameplans from week to week..might be a little tough for someone who needs a picture-filled playbook and st-st-stutters during interviews..Everybody has their problems and I am not trying to make fun but can you imagine trying to hear 60 plays a game with a crowd of 75,000 screaming from a QB who stutters?!

...there is no argument...

...the 49ers organization does want or wish A.Smith is the QB -...

..its not making things up...IT IS A FACT....

....We have seen cases of better QB's lose their jobs after winning SB...dilfer, warner.....to think Hill will be the starter for long is a fantasy...

We all know - how this will play out - no need to waste the energy.....the guys with the power calls the shots.....

its all about $$$.....last i heard Crabtree's jersey still outsells Shaun Hill's jersey....and he isnt even on the team.:)

I mean cmon - who buys a Shaun Hills jersey?...lol....you dont think the Owner notices this things?......:)

IKE: Nate Davis learned the playbook in record time.It was a pleasant surprise to the staff! Of course he didn't learn the whole playbook, but he is dedicated himself to learn it all by the end of the year.
Alex on the other hand is a notoriously SLOW learner.
Alex is very smart in the classroom but a slow learner on the football field, Davis is just the opposit,he is slow in the classroom(learning dissability) but on the football field he is a quick learner.
And Joe Montana was rather shy when he came into the NFL,so don't be upset because Davis is not great in front of cameras(have you ever seen Gore stutter and mumble in front of the cameras? It didn't hold him back).
As you said,Davis is a natural. You can't teach that. Alex is not a natural and he can only go so far,and if his 30+ games is any indication ,he has a very low ceiling.
Nate has it all and IF he brings that whole package to the NFL,he will be our franchise QB of the future. Of course,no guarantees. But he has shown more in a short time than alex has shown in all his time.Maybe we will have 2 busts, but I think Davis has so much potential that we can be very hopefull ,(at least until he sucks for his first 30+ games, lol).

Delusions are a sign of the need for medical help. That is a FACT.

...damn i promise not to get into A.Smith or knock S.Hill for a while....

...dammit

...in all fairness S.Hill is cool.....just plz dont mess up this sunday.....maybe next one ....but plz not this sunday.

...i need this win against the sorry seagrlz badly......cant even recall last time we won against against them........

....anyone remember?

A learning disability at any other position other than QB can be compensated for by pure athletic ability and a simplification of what said player does on the field...but QB in the NFL is the most difficult position in sports...you say Alex is a slow learner on the field but I disagree...I think Alex Smith is a perfectionist and also someone who looks like he lacks confidence in a lot of things that he does..that is why he hasn't shown to be the fiery leader or taken the reigns of this team..because he feels like he hasn't earned it yet...But do not mistake his lack of confidence for him being a bust...I truly believe he will show his talent and once he finally has some success on the field without being carted off of it you will see his leadership shine through

last year with Just Touchdowns O'Sullivan making plays kinda like some kid I have seen who played recently at Ball State

IKE: Alex's college HC said that alex is nonfunctional until he learns every detail of the playbook. So far he has been almost totally nonfunctional. But what I am talking about is his movements on the field that look like a robot. He is slow to react and slow to read the defense and slow to release the ball and very stiff looking and unnatural looking. Deer in the headlights that moves like a hippo. If I had never seen clips of him playing in college,I would think that he was not even 7th round talent.
On the other hand,Nate has all the tools and uses them smoothly and unlike Alex he is accurate and throws on time and has a better arm than alex .Just immagine how much better he will be when he gets near the experience that alex has.
And don't fret about his learning disability. As I said, there is NO problem learning football, never has been any .And how many QB's around the League have those stupid wrist bands on ,so they don't mess up the play call? Well,if worse comes to worse,Nate can wear one of those, like some of the top QB's wear.
Bottom line is that Nate is better than Hill or Alex in physical and natural abilities. When he gets experience,he will be VASTLY better(or should be,no guarantees).
And let us not forget that Hill has started about 1/3 as many games as Smith has started, and Hill is already much much better in every area of the game than Smith.Immagine how much better Hill can become if he gets as many starts as Alex.
Hill is the present and Davis is the future and alex is an afterthought(who had to take a huge pay cut, just to remain in the NFL).Even if Davis and Hill flop, the team will draft or trade for another franchise QB,they will not turn to alex as more than a fill in.

....i am sure S.Hill has the lowest jersey sales of any starting QB right now.......

or am i wrong?

...dude if you are gonna convince anyone about S.Hill - the least you could do is buy a S.Hill jersey....

...even you wont buy it....lol

am i wrong?....

...dude if you are gonna convince anyone about S.Hill - the least you could do is buy a S.Hill jersey....

...even you wont buy it....lol

am i wrong?....

You keep asking,so I will answer...YES,you are WRONG !!! Not about the jerseys, just in geneal about almost everything !
Print this out and put it up by your computer for future reference,it will usually apply...

YES,YOU ARE WRONG !

Yeah, you're right. I remember McC and York having a conniption when Sing yanked JTO in favor of Hill, b/c Sing isn't supposed to make personnel decisions, b/c he's only a "loudmouth" head coach...right.

FYI - Sing was quoted as saying Hill won't have to look over his shoulder as far as being pulled from a game. He is the starter. Maybe you saw what you wanted to see. Cocaine is a helluva drug.

Wow, are you really basing your anti-S.Hill argument on jersey sales? Child please...

I won't buy a S. Hill jersey because I know that Nate Davis is probably the QB of the Niners for the next 10 years or more.
But you also KNOW that NOBODY ANYWHERE are buying Alex Smith Jerseys. Well maybe at the Goodwill Store .

This is kind of funny, in my research for jersey sales I came across this page:

http://www.midwestsportsfans.com/2009/08/nfl-jersey-sales-top-20-favre-vikings-vick-eagles-crabtree-49ers/

which was from August 31st of this year. Of the top 20 selling jerseys, there is only one 49er. Who? Michael Crabtree, at #20.

I went and bought an Alex Smith sweat shirt! When I brought it home and put it on, if anyone, including my wife and kids came near me, I started to run from where I stood! And funny thing, I began always running to the right side!
Then as I ran to the right, I threw anything I had in my hand out of the house! I threw things out the doors and out windows! I even broke some windows in my panic! I finally took it off and my wife said to me, you acted like that QB the 49ers drafted #1 a few years ago.
So I ran to the sporting goods store and bought a Hill sweat shirt! And everything became calm again.

Yeah, no kidding. According to his jersey sales logic, Michael Crabtree is one of the hottest receivers in the league. Sure he is...sure he is...

Terry: Did your hands shrink and were you suddenly unable to play catch with your Son,without throwing the baseball over his head? And did you have to take a pay cut to keep your job? And did you keep getting wood splinters in your butt? (we could keep going forever, lol)

I think I may have found other "sports" oneniner plays.

R.P.S.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eanWnL3FtM

Ok, now THAT is funny

This one is more of a past time for him than a sport but he has been know to competitively compete commando style.

These "Sports" are ridiculous. I mean really. People do this things?

F. L. : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPQ6TuvqX7w

All the energy is awesome, really, but when blog comments get dominated by one or two posters it tends to reduce the desire by others to read the comments or comment themselves, and when those same posters dominate the comments at all the 9er blogs, well that is both annoying and I think embarrassing, it is like they don't have a life or a living.

I recommend condensing multiple posts into one, using correct grammar and english, stopping with the vitriol (so what if so-and-so is a pessimist, just ignore him), and not being all pervasive annoying commenters.

Just my 2¢

This one was his all time favorites until the "accident of 97' " a black day in the eyes of many F.L. aficionados. It was pure chaos, the screaming, the blood and the smell... that smell... oh god that smell.....

KUDOS TO YOU MATT!!!! Adam Schefter has officially mentioned your GPS GAME term in his twitter. Now it´s official... I´m sure everyone will start using it from now on.

Its gotten to the point where people are taking these way to personal. Topcat and oneniner have been going at it all offseason. Agree to disagree on hill and smith. Both of you believe Nate Davis is the quarterback of the future. Focus on your agreements sometimes.

I agree with you.... Hill is probably in the last 5 QB's in terms of Jersey Sales.

But I could care less really... we have our SuperStar Jersey and that is #52 and will be for awhile. Funny... I was at the Draft Party and went crazy with everyone else when we selected Crabtree. Almost thought about getting my girl a cool new team #15... THANK GOD I didn't!!! hahaha Took the safe route and got the #52.

Hill HAS to win this game though in my opinion. If we have a chance this year we need to show it 2 weeks in a row against our division rivalries.

If/When we beat Seattle this Sunday... Peeps will have to start giving cred where it's due and STOP with all the "It was a Fluke" nonsense. I think that's fair

Did ya'll see Crabtree on the halftime show of the Miami-Georgia Tech game? He asked Lou Holtz (as Dr. Lou) lightheartedly about how a player should deal with his AGENT (and not with a low-balling organization). Holtz told him (basically) to make the deal and play ball. Interesting, but it had to be part of the whole negotiation plan....didn't it?

Maybe he will wise up?

Who cares if S.Hill doesn't sell jersey's -does he help his team win football games? Who cares if he isn't the better "face" of the franchise(what a ludicrous consideration!)-does he give himself up for the team? He's not pretty but he transcends his limitations with a little thing called character-he's our guy right now...period! Smith or Nate all conjecture and projection. Give Shaun his due- he has earned it. Like it or not he's our QB! Personally I believe he will help lead this team to Victory this Sunday-Go NIners!

Guys, oneniner saying that he is a fan of abortions speaks volumes as to why he is such a fan of Alex Smith.

Matt,

I think someone is taunting you... lol

"It seems that Sunday's game grows in importance with every passing hour. It's the only Week 3 match-up between unbeaten teams, and the individual match-ups are full of intrigue, too. That's why I've dubbed this a WPS game. You can learn more about the exciting, new WPS technology here, but the bottom line is that it's waaaaay more accurate than gps as far as pinpointing one's location."
