The 49ers' regular-season opener is four days away. I'm not sure Mike Singletary can wait that long.
He is clearly excited about the team's opener. And a good many players on the team expressed their enthusiasm for opening against the 2008 NFC West champions - and a team that nearly won the Super Bowl.
Here's some of what's going on in 49erland:
--The 49ers returned to work today after having four days off.
--Singletary said he decided on CB Shawntae Spencer because of his technique and experience in the defense. He said he did not make any mental mistakes during camp. Spencer said he was surprised to be named 49ers starter. He said he thought Dre' Bly would get the call. And, likewise, Bly thought he would be the starter, saying that's the standard he's set for himself.
--Bly is the team's third cornerback, while Mark Roman will enter when the 49ers go with six defensive backs, Singletary said.
--Michael Crabtree has locker - with jersey and helmet (no logo) -- between Jason Hill and Isaac Bruce. But there is still no indication he's ready to sign. Crabtree has been spending his time in the Bay Area, but the sides are still far apart in reaching a contract.
--This has nothing to do with Crabtree, but Singletary was talking about why Jimmy Raye was downplaying the importance of the quarterback. "We're not trying to build superstars, we want to build a team."
--Singletary opened his remarks by saying he was not going to talk about Crabtree or the team's offseason flirtation with
--Safety Michael Lewis is medically cleared after sustaining a concussion Aug 29. It was his second concussion in 11 days. Lewis will start for 49ers on Sunday, Singletary said.
--Receiver Brandon Jones is out through September with a broken shoulder, while linebacker Ahmad Brooks will be out a week or two with a knee problem.
--New offensive tackle Tony Pashos said there are a lot of new things to learn with the 49ers' offense, though he played two seasons under O-line coach Tony Pashos Chris Foerster. "I just want to learn everything as fast as possible." He'll be the primary backup, at least initially, for starting right tackle Adam Snyder.
--Singletary talked to his practice-squad players after the walk-through this morning and urged them to "bust their tails" and make a push to get onto the team's game day 45-man roster. The 49ers added the final P-squad player, G-T Drew Radovich. The other seven guys on the unit are WRs Dominique Ziegler and Dobson Collins, LB Diyral Briggs, RB Kory Sheets, T Alex Boone, FB Brit Miller and TE Joe Jon Finley.
--Receiver Jason Hill still does not know his role on the team, but he said he was thrilled to make the 49ers' 53-man roster.
* * *

I'm looking forward to seeing Brandon Jones when he's healthy. Maybe once he's on the field we can stop this Cashtree talk. Enough with this punk.
"New offensive tackle Tony Pashos said there are a lot of new things to learn with the 49ers' offense, though he played two seasons under O-line coach Tony Pashos. "
Pashos coaches himself! Now that is talent! Just ribbing you MM. Love your work.
Matt...just fyi
"New offensive tackle Tony Pashos said there are a lot of new things to learn with the 49ers' offense, though he played two seasons under O-line coach Tony Pashos."
Anyway..I really like the fact that the media is out there writing stories on how ridiculous this whole Crabtree situation is. Hopefully Crabtree reads the articles and realizes that he's in a no win situation and signs.
"We're not trying to build superstars, we want to build a team"
-That could be worded wrongly (within the extent that he wants 'team-players' and not divas), but you know... IT WOULD BE GRAND TO HAVE A COUPLE MORE SUPERSTARS ON THIS TEAM!
"Receiver Jason Hill still does not know his role on the team, but he said he was thrilled to make the 49ers' 53-man roster."
Hey Jason, Your role on the team is to take every advantage you can to make a play while Jones is out and Crabtree is goofing around.
..."--Michael Crabtree has locker - between Jason Hill and Isaac Bruce"....
...LOL..isnt that perfect.....he his between a disgruntle WR and a snubbish WR......perfect spot for a diva....
...what advantage?
he his last on the list - Isaac Bruce, Josh Morgan, Arnaz Battle, Micheal Spurlock, Brandon Jones, Jason Hill.
he his not even with the two's....
From M.Barrows
"The team rounded out its practice squad with guard/tackle Drew Radovich, who spent the first eight games last season on Minnesota's active roster last season before going on IR with a shoulder injury. Radovich is from USC and lined up next to Chilo Rachal there ..."
LET'S GO NINERS! I live in Phoenix and would love a nice a$$ whoopin handed down to the Cardinals! That would stop alot of the chirping out here about NFC West Champs! Who brags about that? As a Niner fan I've never been put in the situation were we finished as the NFC Champs so I can't relate. I really don't think I would brag about it! Would you? Come on Sing Sing! Let's GO HILL! Run'em over GORE! Knock'em out WILLIS! Man I can't wait for this game! It's FOOTBALL SEASON BABY! This a new year! A new team! LET'S GO NINERS!
Picked Radovitch over spanos .
I really wish the NFL had a rule where draft picks could not sign endorsement deals until they sign their pro contract. That way, divas like Crabtree cannot live off the endorsement money while holding the 49ers hostage. I'm pretty sure that would break some sort of law, but hey, its a thought, lol
im so jaked up for sunday, its like Xmas!! there are still a couple things concerning me however...
With Hill i asked this before, but why is Hill so under the radar??? I wld think the fire he showed after that lat preseason game wld be right up Sings ally?? i just dont understand why this guy is so under valued. and im not really interesed in hearing bout the lack of talent this guy has, all he has done is produce when he plays!
2nd what is going on with brown now? IMO this guy is our future starting BC. he shld absolutly be the next guy out there before Roman.... that guy nvr goes away!!
i wanna see more of r smith!
Not only the NFC West Champs, but the friggin' CONFERENCE Champs! And I'm STILL trying to figure out how ice water was made in hell last season.
49ers gotta take it to these jive turkeys on Sunday...
Lets take a vote guys:
Who wants Crabtree to be a 49er still?
NOT ME
What our jacked-up on mountain dew friend TheNinerFan was saying is that we have never been in a position to brag about being NFC champs, when we have made the NFC championship we have come away with 5 rings, so either you brag about your ring or don't brag at all.
Mark my words, we are going to win on Sunday. Hill has been under the radar like any hard worker, he will get the job done with the help of Gore and Cofee.
49ers 21-Cards 17.
In the words of Al Bundy....Let's Rock!!!
I won't miss him if he doesn't sign, BUT if he can consistently help us win, I'll bite my tongue.
It isn't like he's a child molester or something.....
I hope there's some truth in this, it speaks to there being some doubt in the minds of some of the Cards.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/09/should-the-cardinals-be-worried/
As for the bragging, when a team has been down for so long ya gotta look for something positive. I remember bragging to a Ram fan that they were responsible for half the 9ers wins one year. I know, pretty sad.
Since our team doesn't have a very good track record on East Coast roadtrips, perhaps we'll do better with some Coffee in the mornings.
Matt, what happened to T Brown? he cant be worse than Roman. also, if lawson starts the regular season like he played the preseason, would they have the guts to sit him and try others? hes a cool guy but i got tired of watching him either get pushed to the ground on a run or pushed outside on his "speed" rush.

Maybe a ray of hope in the Crabs issue. Sounds like Crabs is thinking of finally firing his luny agent and getting a deal done with the Niners !!!
I hope these guys at football central are right !
Steve Young just said Crabs doesn't want to play for SF. I am over him (Crabs, not Steve!).
But steve young is often wrong and did he even say he had been in contact with Crabs,? Sounds irrelevant to me what Young said.
Whoa guys!
Hey I'm jacked up for the season to start too but until I see any sightings of Hill throwing the ball down the field with some conviction & a pass rush then I'm taking a wait & see (pray?) stance against the Cardinals.
He's not signing dude. At this point, I hope he proves me right.
I thought Spanos played well, and it fact outplayed Cody Wallace. If I was McSing and was looking at our roster, I would have picked Spanos on the PS over Dobson Collins. Why? He's the 8th or 9th WR on a team that runs 60% of the time. He's got EVERYONE in front of him. Makes more sense that we keep a developing interior OL so that when Baas gets hurt, Wallace can be promoted and Spanos signed onto the roster. Maybe there is a thing that the 9er's have about establishing an all USC O-Line...Spanos, Rachel and Radovich.
I am not a "DUDE". And let me get this straight, you hope he doesn't sign so that you can be right ? So you choose being right (with no real facts or quotes from Crabs etc to base your judgement on) ,over getting in a stud receiver that we were lucky to have fall in our laps in the draft?
I thought there was no "I" in team. lol
You should hope for Crabs and the team to get this thing done and then hope that Crabs is the best WR in the NFL for the next 10 years,if you are a real fan of the team, and not just wanting to be right in some discussion on a website.
JON: I agree about spanos, but when are you going to get off of that bogus thought that we are going to run 60% of the time.We know Raye was just pulling the media's chain.
I thought we put that to rest? Especially when Sing said after Raye's quote came out that we will pass 75% of the time ,if that is what it takes to win !
You missed the point, dude. I hope I am right because I don't want TO Jr. (and his adviser Deion Sanders) on this team, and we might as well get a few draft picks for the Crabs debacle. He is a selfish cancer and he hasn't even signed yet. Even if he does sign he will just be biding his time to get out of here and on to Dallas where he really wants to be. I guess "real fans" like yourself want the team to be destroyed because of douches like Crabs. Niners front office must hold their ground.
Not Roman again!!! Even with 6 defensive backs, I can see him running after the receiver he should be covering like he did last year. Now I'm not going to sleep at night until he's gone! How come somebody else didn't pick Roman up when the team allowed him to find another team if he wanted too? How good can he be?
I guess I'll just load up on the Ambian! Lot's of it the night before the game!
Ryan: If Crabs fires his agent,as the story says he might, then everything you believe about Crabs is probably wrong, that is what YOU don't understand DUDE,lol.
Crabs has always been a good kid and great team mate and neve anything like t.O. etc. Just because he has been following after his agent and letting his agent do the job he was hired to do,does not mean the kid is a bad guy.
Let me repeat,Crabtree has never been a Diva and has always been a good citizen on and off the fiels, His college HC even said that he is a rather shy youngman and is being completely missunderstood .
If he doesn't fire the shark, and sticks with this path ,then maybe the kid HAS changed,we don't know and there is no firm evidence yet to support that.We shall see.But MY side is the Niners side, not just out to make myself look good because I might be correct in a discussion on a web site !DUDE,lol
And let me be clear...Your hatefull attitude towards Crabs is irrational.
I agree with you that the Niners are doing the proper thing. But we don't know who has been running the show in the Crabtree camp. It looks like Parker, the slimey agent has had full control of everything so far. If Crabs fires him and then signs,we can put all the garbage behind us and accept the kid for what he does from now on,not what his agent did over the last 2 months. The kid had a stellar reputation before Parker and if he continues that after Parker, then all is well.
As a fan of the 49ers, I prefer that they don't give away their plans for their opponents. The more people who know what they are going to do, the less likely opponents will be surprised by changes to the usual gameplan. You can't argue with that logic.
I don't know if you were serious about your "mole" tweet, which stated someone gave you the 49ers offensive script for the day which you then posted. It's things like that that the 49ers don't want to get out. I'm sure you were joking, but let's say reporters had been at the practice, and it gets out that the 49ers are running a lot of trick plays (I've seen reports like this about the 49ers before, sometime regarding types of plays, other times regarding personnel groupings),wouldn't that benefit the opposing coach to know that? Or wouldn't it benefit the opposing coach to know the scripted plays for the day were run, run, pass, run, pass, run?
If I were a coach, I would assume I was going against Bill Belichick every single week. Meaning, I would assume he's looking for any bit of information he can possibly get his hands on regarding my gameplan.
I think the Niners have to keep Warner & Co under 2 TDs to win this game. That's a real tall order. I'm not sure I'd bet on any team in the league doing that.
I disagree, the defense will create turnovers. Teams who throw the ball a lot against good defenses make turnovers. If the 49ers defense is better this year, which I think they are, the offense will probably score 31, thus they need to hold the Cardinals under 31. :)
Got my fingers crossed that you're right. Toes too.
You're probably right, the run/pass ratio is 53%:47% during the pre-season. All I'm saying is that a versatile OL is more valuable than an additional WR, all things being equal.
MM,
crabclown and deion disgust me. I do NOT want to see crabloser in a 49er uniform. He does not deseve it and most def will cause future problems for us. Go back to texas you steer. nobody wants you here anymore. we can get draft picks for you retarded *** and you will prob be a bust anyways. screw you cashtree. you and deion can take your punk a**** outta SF.
GLT4: What exactly has Crabtree himself done or said that disgust you ?
According to my rules(lol) you cannot list anything that Deion or a Cousin or a sleezy agent have spoken or done .
I will help you by providing the answers to the test,(lol)
1- UHH,I can't actually think of anything Crabs has done wrong, except him not firing his agent yet. (you get 100% for that correct answer !!!)
For those that continue to say Crabs is a stud WR....nine teams passed on him. If he was that good someone early would have taken him. I am guessing the first nine found the dirt and this is why they passed. Fact - Crabs is a rookie receiver who has not played a down in the NFL. He came from a gimmick college offense and played in a weaker conference. We don't know what he is! He is a lottery pick that may pay off or maybe not. At this point, even if he signed tonight, he most likely would offer little help this year and who knows next year. Personally, we rescind the offer and try and trade him next year. This sends a powerful message to all future picks. Get with the program or we will leave you behind.
http://www.profootballcentral.com/2009/09/09/crabtree-considering-changing-agents/
From Don Banks Power Ranking at SI, I like this guy a lot when it comes to the NFL. he has the 9ers ranked at 22. I see us at 10 and 6. However I always find it hard not to agree with Don....He had a pretty good draft too....
San Francisco 49ers
As bad as West Coast football was last season in the NFL, with only the 8-8 Chargers avoiding a losing season ?- and it took them all season to get there -? it'd be great to see the 49ers return to relevancy. But I don't have my hopes much higher than 8-8 or so for Mike Singletary's team, because it's built to win low-scoring games with a sound defense and running game. That only takes you so far in today's NFL.
Matt
KC has released their starting safety Bernard Pollard.
Why don't the Niners take a look at this hard hitting safety? He had 3 blocked punts in his 3 years in the NFL and was a former 2nd round pick. Don't you think he would be a good pickup?
knbr at 8pm-9pm pac time tonight (wed.),The 49ers Insiders show, with game announcer Ted Robinson.
www.knbr.com
actions speak louder than words dude. he doesnt want to play for us. he is a punk and doesnt deserve to be a 49er.
sooo ignorant of the World and how it works. Sad. dude, lol
Don't know if anyone has noticed but but the Ram's Carriker went on IR and out for the year. Poor guy has been snakebit by injuries since drafted. I was a big fan of his but Willis looks better all the time. Just a reminder of what a crap shoot the draft is. Sing did not like Willis. Wonder if he would have wanted Carriker? Lets hope we have a Crab free team!
im well aware how the world works. crabloser is a classic example of greed and selfishness.
Hey MAtt what happened to Khaliff Mitchell didn't he make the practice squad.
Khalif Mitchell got bounced when they added Briggs to the PS which happened when Pashos signed..just an FYI
TOP-CAT: Glad your so optimistic but to alleviate any responsibility to Crabtree for this debacle is a mistake. Let me tell you, it's HIS career and who he chooses to represent him is as an important judge of character as anything else. Deion is his "mentor", not jerry Rice or someone with more class. He wants to be the next Deion Sanders. I like Crabtree and want to sign him, but right now like Matt wrote about, HE is sending a clear message to the 49ers, and even though i understand the business side of things, he's holding the team hostage that loved him enough to draft him. Not very smart. If he does intend to sign what message does that send to his teammates? To Shaun Hill?
GLT4- why you hate Crabtree so? he's a young 20 yr old impressionable kid. it's sad more than anything. Singletary is the best thing to ever happen to his career and he doesn't even know it. Instead he let the next bob Sugar in, that snake! i want Crabtree to fire his agent immediately, they are playing crabtree like a puppet. i hope he sees this.
As far as that article on Crabs firing his agent, it had no reliable source. it looked like a ploy to get hits to that site to me.
As a Niner fan, at this point, I do not care why Crabtree is holding out: whether it is because he believes he is worth more than the offer on the table or that he is getting bad advise.
I believe in what Singletary said, that the Niners have made Crabtree a fair offer. I hope he works with his agent and the Niners to have a deal in place that works for both parties and signs by this weekend.
If not, the season is almost upon us and I prefer to read about and root for the 53 who want to wear the red and gold.
your forgetting he is friends with deion sanders. a loud mouth punk. crabclown is worthless and a punk
Bloggers writing article after article bashing Crabtree to generate page hits!!
I'm shocked, say it aint so.
What's next? a tabloid claiming aliens impregnate dead movie stars to impersonate gay royals in hospital mercy dashes?
Well said. I am starting to get the feeling Mr. Crabs does not want to play for the 49ers. If that is the case he will indeed hold out till next years draft and that would leave Mr. Jones as his mac daddy.

Whats was it that we used to say when we were young children? (Because you act so childish,it seem appropriate, lol)
It takes one to know one ,lol
You guys and GLT are correct. I want men who carry themselves with respect like WILLIS and GORE. Winners.
You are clinging to false hope TC. Blaming this on Parker is desperate! Greedtree controls the show! Do you really think a Parker is acting against his wishes? NO
Another installment in a continuing series of people that aren't worth listening to:
#63 Those that left 3nd grade some time ago but still think that calling names really hurts adults and impresses bystanders e.g. Nowin Nolan, Crabclown Crabtree etc.
#64 Those that keep writing lol
#65 Raider fans
to be continued
#66 crabloser sucks. the end.
Yep,"the end" of all rational thought and discussion, lol. lol lol
Realfan: Because I am actually laughing out loud at the guy
(wink), Do you like that better ?
Teams passing on a player doesn't mean much when you consider Dan Marino was taken after Ken O'Brien, and Tom Brady in the sixth round after Chris Redman, Tee Martin, and Spergon Wynn. Then there is Joey Harrington # 3 overall after #1 David Carr in 2002 etc etc etc.
The NFL draft is a crap-shoot so why do they do it? Why pay JaMarcus Russell 65 million when he hasn't played a down either?
Again the best teams consistently draft in the last positions. How do we explain that?
Dear Michael Crabtree,
I hope you are reading every piece of negative commentary on your holdout, because you need another perspective. When idiots like Deion Sanders are telling you that you are better than all the other rookie recievers drafted this year, they are only stroking your foolish ego. NEWS FLASH: INDIVIDUALS DO NOT WIN SUPERBOWLS, TEAMS DO!
You need to realize that you have not proved anything in the NFL and you have DONE NOTHING to deserve more money than the other nine players drafted ahead of you! It would serve you right to end up like David Verser and throw away a shot at fame and fortune because of your selfish pride! If you don't know who David Verser is, then you need to read the following article and notice all the similarities between his story and yours.
http://www.enquirer.com/editions/1997/07/20/loc_verser.html
The difference between Verser and you is that you still have a chance to right your attitude and get your rookie a$$ in camp! For Christ's sake, kids are dying of malnutrition in Africa and you are snubbing your nose at $20 million because you think your poo smells like roses. Pride will get you nowhere except a place where people disdain you (as I'm sure you've already observed). A humble attitude, hard work, and dedication will get you where you want to be - just ask Patrick Willis - oh wait...I forgot...you wouldn't know anything about him because you've left him and your would-be teammates high and dry! Wow, now that's something to be proud of! The clock is ticking - as each second passes you are falling farther behind the curve. Get off your high horse and PROVE me wrong!
Sincerely,
A concerned 49er fan
Maybe its time we send Mr. Crabs back to bitch school. I'm just saying...
:-)
the thing i hate about this "advice" he is getting, let's examine how irrationale it really is. Your good? You want to get drafted high? Newsflash:Good prospects get drafted by teams who had bad seasons. That's why we're drafting in the top 10.
This whole thing about not wanting to play with shaun Hill? Well, Fitzgerald didn't complain when he went to a bad cardinals team. Calvin Johnson anyone? look at his situation. With the qbs he's had it would've been easy for him to say comming into the league "I don't want to play for the Lions." Instead, what did he do? He shut up, made no excuses, and that great size and talent shined through. Michael Irvin went to a 1-15 cowboy team.
my point is, teams don't get good over night. It takes a good front office to get good coaches and good players, and coaches to coach well. You're not a free agent. If your as good as you say you are, then help a 7-9 team from last year who came 1 play from beatin the team that represented the nfc in the superbowl, and help us get over the hump! You could do much worse than Shaun Hill.
FACT:Shaun Hill has the best win percentage as a starter in the nfc. FACT:No NFC team won more games in the last 7 games than the 49ers.FACT:Shaun Hill had a better qb rating than the SB winning QB from last year.
The niners are a team on the rise, and Dallas may be sexier, but sexy doesn't win SB's. Ask the Saints LOL. Ask the Chargers LOL. We're building a character team, almost in a Bellichek fashion. there's more to this than dollars and cents. but if you're as good as you say you are, shutup, sign your contract, get your butt to camp, and play. if your as good as you think you are i'm sure you'll have an opportunity to shine as a 49er. I mean, show me a richer history of WR's, i'd like to see it. This is frustrating! I believe the 49ers have taken the right approach here, if you don't want to be a 49er than maybe you don't belong here.
Thanks Matt, i had to get that off my chest!
My man UDFA Chris Baker (6-3, 328 lbs) made Denver's 53-man.
Daaamn. Another NT we passed on & didn't take a look at. Will have to wait again 'till next year to try & get one.
I was screaming for Baker and Boone in the late rounds. Also thought Khaliff Mitchell showed promise... too bad he was cut. Another year with nothing real promising at NT... ick.
FACT:Shaun Hill has the best win percentage as a starter in the nfc.
Fact -- He started 10 games and these are his wins;
Bemgals - 2-14
Buccanneers - Second & Third teamers
Rams (twice) - 2-14
Bills - Collapsed after 4-0 start, finished season 1-5
Jets - Collapsed after Favre injury, finished season 1-4
Redskins - Collapsed, finished season 2-6.
There's your seven wins -- a rogues gallery of incompetency. A fluke of scheduling. Pure, unadulterated luck not QB competency.
.FACT:No NFC team won more games in the last 7 games than the 49ers.
Fact, nobody had as easy a schedule to finish out the year:
Rams finished 0-7
Bills finished 2-5
Jets fished 3-4 (1-4 from when Favre got hurt)
Rams (again) 0-7
Redskins 2-5
There's your "winning" record vis competency... Not a single win against a winning/competently-finishing team. Not a single team won more than two games during that stretch, except the Jets, who had a healthy Favre for two of the three wins. But not when they played us.
It was an exceptionally easy schedule. In that final seven there were only two good teams in there -- Dolphins and Cowboys. We lost to both of them and were not able to score a TD against their first team defenses.
FACT:Shaun Hill had a better qb rating than the SB winning QB from last year.
Fact, TWENTY-THREE QBs had better ratings than Roethlesberger and 11 had better ratings than Hill. Only one of those QBs also went to the Superbowl. He lost. BFD.
And, as we've seen, Hill played against the easiest schedule in the NFL. Two good teams shut us down. The five bad teams lost to us, though we did manage to come close to losing a couple of those games... Seriously, barely beat the collapsing Redskins and barely beat the Rams...
You want to hang your hat on that... Go ahead. It's a fool's paradise.
Here's an idea.
Seymour doesn't want to play for the Raiders & wants a longer contract. He's 6-6, 310 lbs, 29 yrs old, was the 6th overall pick in 2001, & is a 5X Pro Bowler.
How about a trade involving Justin Smith? Smith's 6-4, 285 lbs, is ALSO 29 yrs old, was the 4th overall pick in the same 2001 draft. He has zero Pro Bowls but has a solid reputation & production every year & is durable.
You swap a 4-3 DE for a true 3-4 DE. If we have to, throw in a 2011 lower RD Draft pick or another player. Maybe Demetric Evans who's another misfit 4-3 DE playing on a 3-4 team. Try to get Seymour in a 3-4 year deal. What do you all think?
montana, I have to agree with Moses on this one. The stats for Hill are more spins on the situation.
The over arching FACT we can ALL agree on, is that Hill gives us the best chance to consistently stay competitive. The 9ers need consistency and not uncertainly, especially when faced with challenges throughout the year. They jumped on too many bad picks in the draft and couldn't keep an OC in place to develop Smith. When he was drafted I question whether Smith was just another Carr, Couch or Harrington. It now looks that way. If this is the case, than he needed to sit on the bench for 3 years to learn. But I digress.
Hill should of started last year to see what we had in a full season. However, this year's offense is more in tune with what Hill needs and should be relatively successful. I question if we can come back from a 3 score deficit. This will be interesting to watch, with no pass protection or pass rush in preseason.
Go 9ers!!
So I guess you would've felt better if the 49ers lost those games, and S.Hill was terrible against terrible teams? I'm missing your point.
> Seymour doesn't want to play for the Raiders
Where does that piece of information come from? Did he or his agent say so?
He was traded last tuesday. He is not obliged to report prior to monday. That's part of the league rules regarding trades.
The media tries to create something out of nothing here.
If he does not report monday then there's something to write about.
Jason Hill needs to define his role. He has shown that he can make plays, he just needs to continue doing that and take advantage of every time he is on the field, the ball is thrown his way, during practice...
Are we really still talking about this? If you look through the past threads, you can find oneniner saying this stuff in almost every one of them since the end of last season. What's it matter at this point? It's my opinion that Hill gives us the best chance to win of the QBs on our roster - despite him ultimately being not much more than a good backup QB. It's easy to hang your hat on him when he's the only reasonable peg to hang it on.
Ugh. The link below is not for the squeamish. Do not read if you're pregnant, have heart problems, or are prone to fits of rage when someone criticizes the 9ers.
http://www.cbssports.com/spin/story/12179911
C'mon Dirk you've got to be kidding me.
You're going to one of the premier winning franchises in the league to one of the most dysfunctional losing organizations in the last several years.
You don't need the media to decipher that one.
If he finally reports I don't think he'll be a happy camper. My guess (& I think many are thinking the same) is that he was CRUSHED when he heard the news he was being traded to Oakland. Ex-players carry a lot of credibility.... Matt Bowen @ the NFP, Schlereth & Golic & ESPN. They've said the same thing. Hardly anyone wants to go there. I was surprised they held onto Asomugha (kudos to Cable on that one.)
Neither Crabtree & Parker have said anything but that he wants to be a Niner, he wants to be a long term Niner and he's excited to be here. Your rant is all based on media ho's sound bites.
PS if it's not all about the $'s and cents, you'd think Jed wouldn't have a problem upping his offer. After all it's only money, team wins/playoffs/superbowls are vastly more important.
I haven't heard anything from Crabtree's camp saying he didn't want to be here. Nonetheless some signs seem to point in that direction considering his point of view pretty much flies in the face of decades of rookie contracts signed in the NFL; Al Davis being the exception. Honestly I don't want him part of this team. I think the 49ers have more to gain by not budging on the stance that Crabtree should be paid between #9 and #11. Hell the NFL owners have a lot to lose if the 49ers caved in. I will say this- Crabtree is not more important than Willis nor is their any indication he will be at some point, and there's no sense in giving him a contract that would piss Willis off. Same goes for Staley if he continues to develop. I say see you later Cashtree. Good luck with the draft next year. I don't even think the 49ers should trade him come next spring- there's no doubt Crabtree's value will be significantly diminished with teams knowing the 49ers can't sign him. Just let him fall back into the draft and set an example with this moron.
> C'mon Dirk you've got to be kidding me.
No I am not. By league rules Seymour does not need to report in Oakland prior to Monday. The only fact the media follows is that he does not report when he does not have to.
I understand if he's not happy with his new situation. But he did not do anything wrong. Yet.
Hey, I get it, the trend is not that Hill has beaten crappy teams, it's that he's got the hocus-pocus that makes them play like crap AFTER he's beaten them.
:-)
Seriously, bottom line Hill gives us the best chance of winning.
Go 9ers!
,...yes best chance of beating a college team...
...you guys are so used to losing yu have lost touch of what a winning team looks like...
.....i watched the superbowl again last night and saw what the cardigrls DL did to pittsburg.....the truth is we have no chance -
....the other truth is - would i like to be proved wrong and enjoy my beer/food watching the Hill prove me wrong - hell yea
...but reality does set in after you look at what is going to happen on that arizona field on sunday...
Guys, on Seymour:
Sure he's disappointed. Going from the Pats to anywhere at this point in NFL history probably reduces your chances of making the SB. He's been there his whole career, knows the area, the coaches & players, etc. Its a shock. His teammate Randy Moss certainly never had a nice word for the Raiders and RS knows he's better than Burgess, so he hates the idea; who wouldn't? Namdi only stayed because they threw buckets of cash at him. And RS faces losing frequently while getting paid less than Kelley. Also, being on Oakland may impact his ability to hit incentives in his contract.
My very first thought when I heard about the trade was that Oakland could use the help, but Richard HAD to be bummed.
He also may be having issues with his own agent, although that's only rumors, but if true would make him unhappy.
Man, I tell ya Rick, kids these days. They don't got no home training! Bringing up stuff about last season. It's 2009 you slappies, get it together! It's cool though, let them keep underating Hill, so he can continue to over achieve.
oneniner - stop fakin' the funk bruh you KNOW you're not old enough to drink.
Is it Sunday yet?
We will emerge Victorious sunday against the Cardinals. 1-0
You ought to stick UN infront of your blog name. Explain to me why Crabtree would want to penalize the team that saved him from falling who knows how much farther in the draft. He apparently is a legend in his own mind even though he's done nothing in the NFL yet. Most good football players, even though they didn't like where they ended up being drafted, would sign a fair contract, which it is, and get started showing those other teams who passed on him how they really screwed up. This kid's another man child(like TO) with poor advisors too. We don't need another wide receiver who's all about himself.
From ESPN:
First-round draft choice Michael Crabtree's throwing sessions with retired quarterback Trent Dilfer took place three weeks ago and therefore do not foreshadow any immediate plans to sign a contract and report to the 49ers.
According to Dilfer, now an ESPN analyst, a mutual acquaintance he declined to identify arranged two roughly 90-minute throwing sessions at Valley Christian High School in San Jose. Crabtree is staying in the area and Dilfer lives nearby, so the arrangement was convenient.
"The kid wanted to catch some live balls," Dilfer said. "I had not thrown in 15 months, but I was more than happy to take the arm off ice."
Dilfer said he could not remember which days he threw to Crabtree, only that the sessions would have been on back-to-back days between Aug. 17 and Aug. 23. He said he did not discuss with Crabtree the lingering contract dispute between Crabtree and the 49ers.
"We went through the route tree and probably threw 50 routes each day," Dilfer said. "I do not want to make definitive statements based on grass basketball, but it was impressive. He was very, very fit. I crushed him, basically, in terms of the tempo, the expectation. I treated him like a five-year vet going through the route tree and he did not blink.
"He looked great -- very healthy, very strong, very fit, very coachable, very polished route runner and he had a great attitude. He showed very strong hands, attacked the ball in the air, never let one ball get into his body in two days."
Houston, thanks for passing on the article, but who is this guy?? Sonny Amato? Never heard of him. Oh, I see, he's a fantasy football guy. Looks to me like he bases all of his opionion on history, the way he has us the only teams worse are Oakland and Detroit.
The thing about fantasy forecasters is that they have short memories, kinda like the guys that forecast our economy. Even poorer performance than the weather man.
Razor, I'm with you, 9ers 1 - 0 after this week.
Stampede, "Is it Sunday yet?" I CANNOT WAIT. This is better than Christmas as a kid.
Oneniner, if your so down on this team why do you bother watching? Come back in a couple years when it's a very solid playoff under Singletary. McCloughan's only done a fair job of drafting so far but we all forget how totally devoid of talent this team was when he got here and how Nolan probably helped screw up some choices. Terry Donahue was a totally incompetent GM. This team finally has some leadership and direction under Singletary and I think we'll see it against the better teams too for a change. For those of you who are whining before the season even starts, go walk your dog, play with your kids or find a hobby to occupy your Sundays while we true fans watch Singletary build a winner.
I only point this out because I find it humorous. You said, "Looks to me like he bases all of his opionion on history..."
In the very next sentence you say, "The thing about fantasy forecasters is that they have short memories..."
This guy really must be terrible if he bases everything on the past but has a very short memory. Unfortunately for us 9er fans, Amato's column represents the overwhelming national opinion. In the past week I've heard the 9ers called "garbage, hacks, laughing stocks, dredges of the league, etc." I also heard the Chargers radio broadcast team say the Chargers 3rd stringers are better than the 9er starters. Obviously, I hope they're all wrong and I'm waiting for a few games to form an opinion. I am STOKED for some football but I'm not expecting a playoff year.
Yeah, Al, I'd agree only some of Mac's choices have panned out, but as someone said the other day, its a crapshoot. For all his brilliance in the middle rounds, Walsh's 1st Rounders weren't always that great:
Stuckey played like a 3rd or 4th
J.Owens played like a 5th
Todd Shell played like a 5th
Walsh's worst choice was Donahue for GM. Stinko!
Seifert grabbed BY & Stubby, but also DE Kelly & RB Flagler. Was he also responsible for JJ Stokes?
Mooch? Please!
Didn't Billichek just give up on a couple of 3rds?
I read that Nnamdi fought to have Cable stay in Oakland when he spoke with Al. He liked the direction Cable was taking the team. He could of got his boatloads of $$$ from ANY team.
Dirk - if Seymour doesn't report Monday & some more days afterwards then we'll know officially that he's unhappy with the situation & he might play his cards on asking for a long term contract otherwise he'll holdout for the whole season. I'm suggesting there's an opportunity there to offer that long term deal to Oakland if they don't want to give it to him. Seymour is a true 3-4 player. We have two 4-3 DE's as bargaining chips or we could package a 2011 Draft pick along with Smith.
I agree totally with the comment about the draft being a crapshoot as verified by those players you mentioned. My major complaint with McCloughan is about the number of "project" players he's drafted. With the total number of holes this team has had since the Donahue era, I would have liked to see a few more effective starters than part time players especially on the D-line. We've been talking about no pass rush for way too long, even before Scot got here. Other teams seem to be able to draft D-lineman in the later rounds that can atleast get some push back in the QBs face once in awhile.
...oops. I meant to say offer that long term deal to Seymour if Oakland doesn't want to give that to him, he holds out, & we could work out a trade.
Interesting how the best teams always draft later yet somehow they remain in the top tier.
If the purpose of the draft was parity, it's a failure.
I'm honored that you studied my post enough to dissect it.
One good thing about being a fan with the season upon us, we get to be excited, maybe irrational in our expectations. I'm gonna continue to ride this high.
the draft is not the only contributing factor, nor the only corrective action. If a team's managing bad having a high draft choice doesn't fix it.
Guys... we have to remember Scotty MC was only in charge of the last tow draft. Before that He who will never win a game as a coach was calling the shots in the draft as well as fumbling each an every players development.
Come on... Baas and Snyder haven´t developed properly just because he wanted to play musical chairs and those two are not even the worst case (A. Smith, but let´s not go there).
Man to man I think we might have improved 10% the most. But as a team we might have developed even more than that. At the end, Arizona´s game is our big test. It´s the first opening day start for Hill and Sing and after these first 60 minutes of football we will know where we trully stand, if in contention fighting for the Top of the NFC West, or if in contention for a Top 5 pick in next years draft.
Zurdo: And even after Scotty was promoted and Nolan was demoted,Nolan still kept acting like and saying that he still had the trigger on the draft and player personnel. Nolan was like a cockroach that Scotty couldn't kill. And besides they were great friends and Scotty was naturally listening to the HC when it came to what he wanted the GM to get him in players.
The 2009 draft ws Scotty's 1st draft without Nolan.
