On a conference call with Bay Area reporters, Peterson was not shy about admitting that this game hold special significance for him. In 2007, he gained 3 yards on 14 carries against the 49ers. He said he walked off the field that day thinking, "I can't wait until we play the 49ers again."
He gets his chance. Peterson said the 49ers' defense was like a swarm of bees, and he said they're even better now. "This is what coaches want their defenses to play like," he said.
Peterson said the Vikings offensive line did a good job that day, but he took the blame for lacking patience with his running. He was stymied by Patrick Willis in the middle, and Nate Clements coming off the corner in run support.
* * *
Peterson said the 49ers have two players that he loves to watch play: Willis and running back Frank Gore. Obviously, he spoke highly of both players. Willis and Peterson entered the league together in 2007. Peterson was the No. 7 pick; while Willis was No. 11.
Peterson said if there was a do-over of the '07 draft, he would go No. 1 overall (Raiders) and Willis would go No. 2 (Lions). He has a point, though Browns tackle Joe Thomas and Lions receiver Calvin Johnson also might warrant consideration with top-2 picks.
--Peterson was drafted later than many expected in 2007. I asked him for his thoughts on Michael Crabtree.
"I don't know too much about the situation, but he went 10th overall . . . I don't know . . . I guess he's feeling like he's a better receiver and he should get paid that type of money," Peterson said. "I kind of feel him in a way, but then I don't.
"It's all about how he handles the situation. If he's handling it well and keeping himself in tip-top shape while he's in his holdout to get more money, then maybe it'll work out for him. But I'd hate for it to be a situation like Mike Williams. He had to wait a whole year to get drafted again, and I think when you're not in the flow of things and not going through training and practices and not playing football, you don't come back the same."
--49ers coach Mike Singletary has a simple solution for dealing with Vikings running back Adrian Peterson: "We just got to tackle." He said the team missed too many tackles last week against the Seahawks.
--The area where the 49ers can improve the most, Singletary said, is taking ownership of the offense. He said timing and trust have been issues for the 49ers' offense. He said part of the reason the 49ers have allowed eight sacks in two games is because Hill has yet to get a good field for the offense and when to step up, step back or make other adjustments in the pocket. Shaun Hill has rightfully taken blame for some of those sacks. He said the protection Sunday against the Seahawks was unbelievable.
--Singletary actually played against Vikings quarterback Brett Favre. Singletary said he's always been a "huge fan" of Favre. He loves his gunslinger mentality.
--The 49ers' coach is also a fan of Vikings defensive tackles Pat Williams (listed at 6-3, 317) and Kevin Williams (6-5, 311). "Those guys are wow!" Singletary said. "They're huge and they're athletic."

...EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES
...i thought he had a winning record...
How many years in the league and 4 preseason games and still .....excuses
"Singletary actually played against Vikings quarterback Brett Favre. "- ...........really.....that is informative
so.."He loves his gunslinger mentality"....
if Favre is a gunslinger, i guess S.Hill is a crap-shooter.....:)
Here we go again...
.....since 2002 has S.Hill taken ownership of any offense -NO - why would that change now?.....
dreams dreams dreams .....
Oneniner, when the horse dies.....you've got to get off.
Question for the rest of you.
Anybody else from the blog world traveling to MN for the game. If so, let's meet for a pint, Sunday morning. Know of anyplace good near the metrodome.
EXERCISING "your right to be dumb and stupid" ,I believe your own words, has turned that right into the INCREDIBLE HULK!
"He said the protection Sunday against the Seahawks was unbelievable."
.....really.....sarah palin could have told him that from asia....
..so timing and trust were the issue? ...hmm really..- isnt that something a backup QB has trouble with...
I mean he did play with bruce and morgan last yr.....what they got faster now?...or they dont trust him?.....wtf is going on
I swear to God this guy better not cost us this game on sunday....
Seriously....did Hill cause you some sort of childhood trauma years ago for which you have been unable to forgive him? 2-0 this year...9-3 overall...no excuses necessary
how dare you disgrace the image of steve young with your profile!!
If Hill is the QB all year and the 9ers go 12-4 will you still hate him?
I'm trying to make it out there, but the wife is giving me a hard time. Basically if I go, it will cost me in the long run... I'm already scheduled for two Skins games and a Ravens game. It would be a long fall of headaches... But I'll give a shout if I do go.
OneNiner, get a job! Or RELOCATE to another website! Don't you have anything to do besides taking up so much space on MM's blog? You hold the world title of Mr. Negativity! I don't think you even know how to think in a POSITIVE vein. Go ahead, PROVE it...write something positive about the 49ers. I DARE you. (I know you can't do it...just thought a little PUSH might entice you.)
Like..."Wow! Frank Gore was the NFC Offensive Player of the Week" or "Gore broke franchise records and NFL records last week." (Did you see that NFL Network rated him as #1 in the TOP TEN events of the week?) That, from the mouth of Prime Time 49er-hater Deion Sanders!!!
There's something wrong with a person who insists on spending all his time writing in a NEGATIVE vein about his SUPPOSEDLY favorite team (isn't that what One Niner implies?)
Or do you just like to grab the attention all the time by your all-out negativity? WEIRD...
Go, NINERS! Go AWAY, OneNiner! Do us all this big favor...
Niner Mom
jesus christ, oneniner get a life
of course not.....if we are 12-4 - that means he proved me wrong that he could stay healthy all season....
...even if he does not put up big numbers and we go 12-4.....
so obviously i will give him credit for that
you guys miss my point against Hill.....dude i have been watching Hill since his days in maryland - i dont hate the guy - we went to the same UMCP.....he took us to our first ACC title since 1985
- cmon i dont hate the guy......i just love the niners more
i just cant lie to myself about how i feel about him...
passing is the key to this game. vikings will probably shut down gore, like the cardinals game. i hope they open it up on offense.
Hook, line, and sinker is the best cliche I could think of for you. Oneniner does this to irritate people and you fall for it every time. Listen, in a few ways I agree with him about Hill, especially as far as it comes to being able to compete on a long-term basis with elite teams. Hill makes plays but we need a physically superior QB to develop the heart and moxy that Hill shows before we cast him aside. The Niners are winning and for now that is good enough. I am sick of six straight losing seasons and Hill is the QB to break this stretch then so be it. I think of Hill as the Chad Pennington of the NFC and while that is a pretty good compliment for a journeyman QB, lets remember that Pennington hasn't won jack either. For now, lets hang our hat on the running game and ride this Top 5 D for all it is worth. While I think we need a strong-armed QB, I don't necessarily think we have to have that guy back thier throwing picks and making mistakes while this team has a chance to win the division. We can eventually have an offense that is feared by teams instead of one that is merely gaining respect now.
OK, we get it. Now please just STFU about him already. I mean, really.
oneniner: The man in your avatar, Steve Young, had this to say about Shaun Hill's quarterbacking this year on KNBR a couple of days ago: "That's great quarterbacking. Not good quarterbacking, GREAT quarterbacking!"
Of course what would Steve know.
You are a sad little fellow.
I think your screen name got cut off oneniner when you made it. I think it should have been "Oneninerhater" Because that's all you do it hate! Go be a Browns or Lions fan, then you'll really have something to hate about. We don't need you here!! And I'm sure MM would agree.
I bet you would have something to hate about even if the Niners won the Super Bowl again. "They passed to much" They didn't run enough" "I didn't like the way Gore held the SB trophy in the air"
Dam you sux!!
Sorry Matt, but this guy really bugs.
Ahhhhh.......... go easy on him. He sounds like one of life's losers. The kind of guy, see him standing at a bus stop with one other person and he'd be lost in the crowd.
A nobody. This is his chance to be a somebody. A small child, stamping his feet, desperately wanting attention, crying for his mommy. Pathetic, I know, but give him a break. Poor batsard.
Getting back to the topic of ADRIAN, I wonder if he realizes that he was picked by the NFL as the NFL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR in his first pro season--when, in actuality, our Patrick Willis (who should have gotten the title instead of him) was the one responsible for shutting him down to just a sprinkle of rushing yards! That should have spoken for itself in awarding the title rightfully to Willis!
Just another proof that the powers that be have it "IN" for the 49ers--unfairly so; just jealous because of SF's illustrious Super Bowl history, probably. The official or unofficial cold-shoulder treatment of the 49ers is to IGNORE them blatantly or to unfairly punish them for tampering without proof. Now let's see how they deal with the teams tampering with Crabtree! Will the "blindfolded Lady"(Justice) once again "pin the tail" on the 49ers? Just makes me want to "be sick" all over Roger! I despise injustice...
Come on, Patrick! Avenge history and lead the Charge of the Bright Brigade in victory against the Vikings on Sunday! (I wonder if Brandon Jones will be ready to play in this game; I hope so.)
Niner Mom
Jan said...There's something wrong with a person who insists on spending all his time writing in a NEGATIVE vein about his SUPPOSEDLY favorite team (isn't that what One Niner implies?)
---------------------------------------------------------
No,that is not what his name implies.
ONEniner simply means that he is a fan of ONE Niner and only ONE Niner. The rest of us are fans of 53 Niners but he is a fan of only Alex. And he hates anyone who won't let Alex get on the field(Hill,Sing,Raye etc). Once he realizes that it is all Alex's fault that he can't play better and therefore is keeping HIMSELF off the field, maybe he will change his name to 53Niner and turn into a real fan?
Now THERE'S the oneniner we all know and love!
S.Hill is on his 3rd offensive coordinator in 3 years (4th if you count the Vikings). He's 9-3 as a starter. S.Hill excelled in 3 horrible 49er offenses where other QBs failed miserably by comparison (I don't think I need to re-list the names). In other words, even under the circumstance of revolving door coordinators, he still has a winning record.
And that's no lie jive-turkey!
I thought there were offensive and defensive ROY, and that while AP got offensive, P Willy got defensive...so in a way it's a match up of the '07 ROYs. Should be a great game!
Colfax Fan,
I wish I knew a couple of other 49ers fans were going to this game earlier, I had a 16 person Suite lined up and ended up being 4 short. I got 4 tickets on the 50 behind the 49ers bench instead. Most of the action at the Metrodome outside is to the West of the Stadium and there are a lot of bars to the West and South. They usually have some kind of concert outside on the west too. Not my favorite road trip but a W would make this SWEET! Not sure what hotel the team is staying at this year but we are shacking up at the Westin downtown. Pretty fun area on the weekends.
Ill agree partially with one niner on hill.. I dont think hes the quarterback that will win a SB for us. I think we need to draft a top QB and hope he isnt a bust. Hill will be a good qb to start while that young QB can learn. Hill just doesnt have the arm to make those long accurate throws. Even the 50 yard completion he made against Ariz he said in practice they complete like 1 out of 7 of those. Hes just not accurate on deep balls. And IF Crabtree signs, we need a qb that can get it to him, and morgan...
On a positive note, awesome job to the Defense so far and hopefully they can keep it up so we can make the playoffs this year. O line did better last week, but needs to keep improving on the pass protection..
I predict the defense to make it another looooong day for A.P. on sunday. Lets hope Hill can make enough plays to win because Gore might get shut down like against the cards..
Go NINERS!!!!
After reading so many of oneniner posts i have come to one simple conclusion....oneniner is short for oneniner..hater , AKA raider fan! You sound just like the kind of people that work in my office, is always the same: "this comany sucks, the benefits suck, the management sucks!" and yet they still work here...if you dont like it quit and i say to you oneniner...if you don't like anything about the niners maybe you should be on the raiders fan page showering Jamarcus with praise for his excellent play and out of this world abilities.
I think there have been enough rebuttals of your diatribes to fill a book, so I won't even try. But I do wonder why you have so little faith in our coaching staff. They're there every day with the players. They chose who to start as the QB at the beginning of this season, and they choose each week who they are going to start. If either of our other QBs gave us a better chance to win, do you really think our coaching staff would willfully ignore that and start Hill anyway just for the hell of it? IMHO the fact that Hill has the support of the coaching staff speaks volumes more than his statistics do.
Why is everyone all freaked out about the Vikings? Who the heck have they beat, Lions and Browns, oh my? We on the other hand have dominated the NFC championship passing game of Warner and crew in their own house. We crippled (literally) Hasselbeck and his offense. Even when Hasselbeck was in he couldn't move the ball. Farve is old and warn out and will surely throw a pick or three. We have Clement, Spencer, Bly and Brown not to mention Lewis and Goldson in the middle and at the line. Where the heck is he going to throw it? Our 4th CB could probably start on more than 50 percent of NFL teams. AP is great, but we have a dominate run defense, so far its 3rd in the league I think. We are built for speed (Willis, Manny, Spikes) with hard hitting dbs (Clements, Goldson, Lewis). Bring on the Vikes, its lunch time.

"I am sick of six straight losing seasons and if Hill is the QB to break this stretch then so be it."
My sentiments exactly, hes clearly not elite material, but he puts us in position to win. Hes got a 91 career QB rating with mediocre WRs, who have dropped a lot of passes specifically V Davis. If our defense keeps improving I like our chances.
Regarding oneniner, he gets a kick out of ruffling everyone's feathers. I'm sure every Sunday he's out wondering around the neighborhood wearing his #13 Jersey with the big S.HILL on the back. He probably has a Shaun Hill poster hanging in his room too
Ahhh, the voice of reason. Beautiful post, Ike Huminspurts.
aahhh, you nailed it JoshInSB. The Niners are starting S.Hill just so that they could annoy the crap out of oneniner.
Ok, just because oneniner doesn't like hill doesn't mean he hates the niners. A father may not like a certain guy for his daughter, that doesn't mean he hates his daughter. Can people just agree to disagree?
One thing we can all agree on is our defense. Our secondary is looking fierce. Our LBs are attacking ferociously. Our D line is working with a growling motor. Adrian Peterson should remember that old adage, "Be careful what you ask for, you might just get it!"
1st thing is 1st...vikings...we run up the gut. they have the williams wall. whoever wins that battle will come out on top.i would like to see willis "hasslebeck" peterson though. if we keep it close til the end farve will start taking chances and thats where clements, bly or goldson are going to come up big.
2ndly... it wouldnt be hill taking us to the SB, it would be our defense. time after time it has been proven{ravens, bears, early gaints, etc} that with a superior defense, a strong off line, above averge rb's and a decent qb teams DO win the super bowl. we have a bright spot in nate davis, why would we draft another qb next year? we are not going to people. say hello to terrance cody as our 1st pick. coach sing will bring in the next "fridge" to S.F.
3rdly oneniner, no is asking you to lie to yourself, we are just asking you to keep your thoughts TO yourself.
Jeez, chill out on Hill. We won and that's all that matters. The haters on this board keep expecting the team to have a passing attack like under Walsh, Montana and Young.
One other thing that the haters need to know is that Bill Walsh is long gone and while he was heads and tails above most GM's and OC's the reality is that since we don't have him anymore (and most teams don't have anyone like him either) then we need to go to a more traditional way of winning and that is why Singletary is the right choice and the style we have is what best fits our personnel. It is a winning formula but I think too many 49er fans are stuck back in 1988-1989. Those days are long gone so deal with it. Of course if someone thinks they can seance Bill Walsh back to the real world to call plays on Sundays then be my guest. Until then shut your pie hole and be happy we're 2-0. There are a ton of teams that wish they even had one win let alone two at this juncture.
Shaun Hill is doing a fabulous job and if they don't look great in the passing game it is because he and the offense are still getting used to this new system which is like the 3rd or 4th new offense in as many years. You're not going to light the NFL world on fire until everyone is on the same page and I think they will get it and improve as the season moves forward.
oneniner needs his own blog so he can talk to himself in private
Singletary is the best thing to happen to this organization in years. Walsh felt one of his biggest mistakes ever with the 49ers was not drafting Singletary. Coach also spent plenty of time picking Walsh's brain on coaching. He credits Walsh with being one of his biggest coaching influences. Walsh set up the run with passing, but he ran more than passed two of our championship years. Our team will be fine. We worked harder than everyone this Summer. Hard work makes winners.
I hate to tease oneniner, because I feel like this post sometimes gangs up on him. But Singletary used one Hill to bring pain to the team, and another to bring pain to oneniner.
Oneniner sticks his own neck out there, nobody asked him to. Tease away!
oneniner needs to find another hobby.
Why on earth would Peterson look forward to facing the 49ers again?! He must like getting stuffed for losses!!
bad karma,
davis MIGHT be good in the future, but he has played against backups in preseason. Hes not a lock for the franchise qb. We need to pick up a Matt ryan or a Mark Sanchez type guy who can have a huge upside. The reason we are such a run first team is because most of our talent is at runningback. You think if we had Drew Brees on the team we would be running 60% of the time? You have to play with your strenghts. If we had a pro bowl qb, we could be much more balanced and take chances without worrying about turning the ball over. If we get down 2 or 3 scores against a good team, we wont be able to run the ball, we will need a qb who can pass and make big plays. Hill is NOT that guy nor will he EVER be that guy...
Who said anything about Hill winning a SB?
My god what planet are your from?....to answer your quote DUH! This is who the 49ers have at QB okay & I don't want to hear about what the 49ers need to do in next year's draft. The season is 2 games old & you want to talk about next year's draft? As a matter fact the next person who brings up "next year's draft" should be severly BEATIN'! Hill is doing a good job "managing" these first 2 games, now can he do better? Yes of course he can do better & he will NEED to do better if the 49ers have any chance of winning this division & getting in the Playoffs. But like most of the other 32 teams the 49ers are "a work in progress" and Sing would be the first to tell you that.
highpriest333......"Ok, just because oneniner doesn't like hill doesn't mean he hates the niners. A father may not like a certain guy for his daughter, that doesn't mean he hates his daughter. Can people just agree to disagree?"
.....Well said.....
......:)
Jesus, whoever hid oneniner's meds, please put them back.
This isnt funny
shawnrhod, You must be living near me if your going to 2 redskins games and a ravens game this year. I am in leesburg VA. I went to the niners skins game when the niners came a couple years ago and also went to the baltimore 49ers game the year before that.
Got the ravens ticket for $30 and it was in the endzone section 109 row 30.
The redskins ticket cost me $50 was the lower bowl 20 yd line about 18 rows up.
Its funny how good of a price you can get from scalpers for a single.
highpriest333 | September 23, 2009 3:47 PM | Reply Ok, just because oneniner doesn't like hill doesn't mean he hates the niners.

That's right, there are plenty of other reasons he hates the Niners, lol. Hating our starting QB is only one of many. It's not so much that he hates Hill or Sing or Raye etc etc etc,it's that he has an irrational love for Alex, and that has driven him mad .
Like I said before, the rest of us are 53Niners,he is ONEniner, enough said .
And Peterson did not(or could not) practice today because of a bad back.
Oneniner says :
you guys miss my point against Hill.....dude i have been watching Hill since his days in maryland - i dont hate the guy - we went to the same UMCP.....he took us to our first ACC title since 1985
That's it! That's why you hate him so much! He stole your girl didn't he? Don't lie. Tell the truth. You little girly boy!
I can't wait until Sunday ! I would LOVE to see Willis nail Peterson back to the wall and limit him the same way they did in 2007. We are gonna see Gore do what he did last Sunday, I'm betting on it !! Anybody will chirp in ???????
Also, Shaun Hill will have a very good day with the receivers !
Because the Yikes are gonna have 8-9 guys in the box for Gore and Bruce will be roaming free with Davis.
I hate those guys in media that says:" Oh Vikings are a great team" Who in the hell did they beat the first 2 games of the season: the LIONS & BROWNS (BTW, the worst 2 teams in the NFL !!!!!!!! hello anybody there )
That was my 2 cents. I would love to hear Niner nation what they have to say to this ???
thats true old9erfan, Vikes havent played anyone yet. The rams are horrible and you know about the lions. I think the lions are better than the rams this year but thats not saying much.
And Im predicting a win as long as we can contain AP. I knew we could win the last two when everyone doubted me. We should have beat the cards last year in ariz. and if we hadnt turned the ball over 5 times at home against them, we had a chance there too..
but against minnesota, its going to boil down to can hill get the ball to receivers because theyre gonna be stacking up at the line. I think theyll be tougher to run on than the hawks beat up defense.
Go NINERS!
Sheesh, people, stop feeding the trolls.
