The 49ers recorded their first shutout since the final game of the 2001 season. But there was not the feeling that the team was fully content with the accomplishment, a 35-0 victory, over the winless Rams.

The defense and special teams played very well, to be sure. The defense pitched the shutout and scored touchdowns on Patrick Willis' interception return and Ray McDonald's fumble return. Special teams came through with a TD, too. Rookie Scott McKillop pounced on a muffed punt in the end zone.

The 49ers led just 7-0 at halftime after McKillop's score.

QB Shaun Hill had some words to say at halftime on the topic of the 49ers playing the kind of game that coach Mike Singletary outlined for the team. By all accounts, Singletary did not say much - did not have to say much - because the team is starting to take ownership of his message.

The offense managed just two touchdowns. Hill threw touchdown passes to Vernon Davis (13 yards) and Josh Morgan (24 yards).

Davis has now caught three touchdown passes in the past two games. Here's part of my talk with him after today's game.

The offensive line was not pleased with their performance today against the Rams. Glen Coffee gained just 74 yards on 24 carries (3.1 average), and Hill was sacked four times.

"We're not excited just because we won," 49ers tackle Joe Staley said. "We know we have a lot of work to do."

Said Singletary, "When it's all said and done, our offensive line will be one of the best lines in the league. I think sometimes we just cheat ourselves out of what we can be. We just have to take it to the next level and I know they will."

* * *

Singletary said he wanted to have an extra linebacker in uniform, so the 49ers de-activated Allen Rossum and Micheal Spurlock. Arnaz Battle struggled on punt returns with two fumbles (no turnovers). Battle had 3 yards on three returns and caught two fair catches.

INJURY REPORT

CB Dre' Bly (left elbow contusion), LB Marques Harris (left hamstring) and LB Jeff Ulbrich (concussion). LB Manny Lawson (nose) and S Dashon Goldson (got wind knocked out of him) both left the game briefly but returned. None of the injuries is expected to result in any significant time missed.

Hey Matt,
regarding the O-line particularly Baas, it seems every week he's mentioned on the injury list during the week with an ankle injury. It sure would explain his struggles. Do you know if this is an ongoing problem with the same ankle from training camp?

A stunning performance by a swarming tough defense.

Offensive line did not perform well. Hill looks like he is holding the ball too long. It's about time we found the WR and make them part of the offense

Overall a good win and it gives us alot to look forward too in future games.

First off, great win! With all the worrying about a let down they came and took care of business.

Secondly I expect to hear a lot of criticism of the offense. I do think however the play calling was much more creative today, and as they progress that's a good sign.

But let me draw a parallel between the offense and defense; first the linebackers looked and played great - but a lot of that success is due to the D-line doing a great job. On the other side the offense line struggled again, and consequently the offense stuggled. Until the line improves the running and passing game will struggle.

But I"m certainly optimistic that they'll continue to improve. And hey, a wins a win. Go Niners!

Matt, you have fallen off the map with your commentary! Did you strike a deal with the NFL network?

just playin!

On a serious note, benching Rossum was a bad move. Good thing it was a moot one as well.

Coffee is too slow. He has no BURST!! Sheets should be promoted to play during running downs. His ineffectiveness at blocking has no bearing on run downs. We will not beat Atlanta without a significant threat from the running game. A one-two punch of Coffee and Sheets might be just enough to keep ATL on their heels.

I actually thought given the line play he ran well and ran very hard. He clearly is a very tough runner, and a north/south runner who takes on tacklers. He also did a good job of protecting the ball. For a rookie I think we have to appreciate the effort, and I won't second guess the coaches who have so much faith in his ability. Oh, and did a pretty good job in pass protection too. I think you have to give him at least a "B" given it's his first start.

David Baas sucks

3-1 after four games and the fourth was a 35-0 shutout.

Nice job, coaches and players.

good win guys. I hate to admit it but... battle needs more practice before he can replace rossum as the return guy. but last week rossum played poorly as well. tough situation there. on the other hand j hill made it onto the field on special teams... and... the rams were contained VERY WELL. not saying that j hill was making those tackles but at the same time he wasn't over committing and giving up that outside edge. looks like spurlock is the odd man out.

GREAT WIn:

O-line: they are awful right now. i would say they are the one component stopping us from being a powerhouse. i really believe that. my only hope is we stick with one line let them gel and i just hope it continues to come together. Cuz the pass protection stinks and they are opening NO holes. Im watchin the Pitt game right now. WOW what a difference to see 5 guys just lining up and DRIVING ppl backwards. I wld seriously say we are a SB possibility with a line like that.

Play calling: first half much of the same up the middle up the middle 3rd n long. i was really becoming ill. second half, well thats how a smart power running team shld look. nothing saying you cant continue the run but mix in sweeps screens draws down the field passing! looked so much better. we have to continue to trust hill. he is a very good QB IMO. he is just so efficent which i know isnt flashy but guess what... 7-0 at home!

I agree we need to bring up sheets and have a 1-2 punch playing atl next week, but i really think we SHLD win this game being at home and if we do.... its national attention time!

Matt: maybe you can do a piece or just take a moment to speak about the D-line. the D has looked great and in a 3-4 they are extremly important but typically dont get a "hero's welcome." we hear a lot bout Smith bout can you speak about guys like Franklin, Sopoaga, Balmer and even to a degree Mcdonald? (cuz we hear lot bout him too. wow that guy has come alive!)

Thank You

I agree goatfather,
Coffee looks real good between the tackles but doesn't hit the holes as fast as Gore and has no ability to get outside. He also can't catch a cold. Sheets and him would make a stronger backfield. Great W, slow start, and the kickoff coverage HAS TO GET BETTER. Josh Morgan let one get away that Hill put in his lap for a sure TD. Can't wait to be at Candlestick next week, definitely a GPS GAME!

That was a good win. I wasnt so excited about it. (meaning the luster wasnt there). But it was good to see the Niners blow out a crappy team. They could have easily had a tough loss hangover or thought they would just cake walk today. But they did what good teams do. TCB. Jimmy Raye hasnt learned crap. His leash should have no slack in it. He better turn a new leaf, and swallow his pride or smarten up. Oneniner before you say anything. GET LOST. And ha ha your beloved A Smith didnt get any playing time in a blowout. Probably because Singletary wanted to preserve the shutout by not going 3 and, out and chewing some time up,.

He works the nightshift, probably won't hear from him till tomorrow.

Uggghhhh....nice win. Real disappointed with the offensive performance in the first half. Liked the play calling though. Can't say enough good things about the defense......very pleased. Morgan way to redeem yourself but ahhhhh gotta catch that. Coffee needed some help from the o-line wasn't all his fault. Hill makin good decisions, takin care of the ball. Vernon tearin it up baby. Damn that D is ballhawkin. Minus a hall of fame(lucky)pass and we would be sitting at 4-0 but I'll take 3-1 with a convincing division lead at 3-0. Way to go guys playin like WINNERS. Singletary you are the man.

In all fairness to our offense, they did lose 3 possessions because of our defense. That was three opportunities to score, taken away.

Another thing about Hill cuz i just cant say eough about the guy. We all know his "physically skills" are not top 10 QB but in my book he is all heart and does everything a winner needs to do. Example: i just read some articles talking about how...

At half time he stepped up and ripped into the team, RESULT: great second half, shutout blowout win!
Thats wat QBing n being a leader is all about. That is wat frankly we were missing with smith. this guy is a natural born leader and the proof; guys respond, its great.

next Morgan drops a heartbreaker. did we have a TO type moment? nope. i read hill went up to him ASAP on the sideline and said dont think about it cuz im going right back to you! RESULT Hill to Morgan 24 yard TD... enuff said.

There is all this, the STL game last year refusing to be benched and comming back, the diving for a first down with no helment on, this guy is all heart and im pround to call him our QB!!

oy yea and lastly

S. Hill 14-24 152yrds 58.3% 2TDs 0INT 104.9 Rating
... all this WITHOUT the bomb to Morgan and a 7-0 home record and 10-4 overall (shld be 11-3)

Just win baby!!

I know there has been critizism of Raye' seemingly conservative offensive scheme, but he is only implementing the smash-mouth offense that coach Singletary wants. It might be 'ugly-ball' but so far its proving to be winning ball. Also, V.D. has put up better numbers in 4 games than he's had in 2 years. I say, 'if it works, why try to fix it!'

49ers did what a good team is supposed to do...beat up on a poor team. I would have like to see Alex Smith in the 4th quarter. We had a 35-0 lead with 14 minutes left.

Thought Coffee ran tough. Even Gore was shut down when the O line couldn't open holes. Remember Gore's 30 yards on 22 carries in the opener against Arizona?

Sure looks like a playoff team right now that could win 10 or maybe 11 games. But offense needs to develop so we can routinely put up 30 points.

Hey Matt,

What do think about this team. I tell ya, you have to believe inMike Sing. He amazes me the way he turned this team around.

Matt, what is up with Lowell and his obession with Sing faith in God. I wish he could report on something relevent.

Coffee average went up a little this week. I just hope we can get the running game together by next week. You know Alanta is going to come after Shawn next week.

WHat is your persdictions for the game.

Can we please get back to getting Mr. Crabtree sign as soon as possible!!!

We need Mr. Crabtree and his incredible skills to help out our offense because we do need help...

Mr. Crabtree, you do deserve whatever you're asking for and it's time the 49ers do pay you what you want...

All of the 49ers fans would like to apologize to you for been saying bad things about you Mr. Crabtree...

Great all around game, special teams, defense and yes offense. Its been a long time since niners played like a real NFL team. This team will continue to get better offensively and Defensively. Congratulation to all the coaches, players and the 49er faithful.

Aside from the 1WSHBN this may be the dumbest thing I've ever read on this site. Keep up the good work. You're quite entertaining.

Great win. Special Teams and Defense looked great. Raye may be learning on the job. He called a decent game even though the offense didn't score in the 1st half. Baas and Rachal really struggled. At some point, one of these guys need to be replaced. Baas is injured but Rachal is way too inconsistent.

Hey Diehard, be strong, fight the urge to give-in. Don't panic, look, we're 3-1 and leading our division without MC. C'mon, just hang in there! (lol).

I dont know man, ill be honest i am not sorry. i STILL think that the guy is a piece of garbage and if i ever had the chance to tell him to his face not only wld i not apologize i would explain how i felt about him! i really dont think we need him and i dont care if we were 0-4 he STILL is not worth busting the sloting system and ruining our next 50 draft picks!

But bro we dont need him, we have some WRs. Give Morgan a chance to develop, Bruce still got some left for this year and we gotta see what Jones will give us. Our problem is 2 things:

Looking to the future we gotta see what we got in J Hill a guy who WANTS to be here, that has skills (making a lot less money) and our O-line. Im still watching Pitts and wow im just so impressed. Give us that kinda play and i promise our WRs look 10X better!

also keep in mind we have 2 maybe 3 first rounders next year so its a weapon we have in our back pocket.

In all fairness to our offense, they did lose 3 possessions because of our defense. That was three opportunities to score, taken away.

oneniner just took the facebook quiz "who is your man-crush" and the answer was "Alex Smith"

Listen you slack jawed neanderthal hick. Don't ever try to enter a battle of wits with me. You will lose badly. My point was that our defense finished their turnovers with scores. Hence negating opportunities for our offense to boost their stats in short field situations. Which is why I said don't judge them to harshly. But I guess someone with the comprehension of an amoeba, finds this a concept to difficult to understand. I don't want to battle with you, I'm in a good mood after the win. However, if we must trade barbs, I will crush your little mind behind an assault so severe that you'll receive and aneurism.

Nothing says run like 1WR, 2TE and 2RB.
Lets go with a three WR formation and bring in our best blocking WR, Battle?
It's time use the pass to set up the run.

Great D and effort, just need to trust Hill.

Winning is great. Winning big is even better. Yes, there is plenty to criticize, but the offense will get better as the year goes on. We're in a great position after 4 games and the defense will keep this team in contention in every game. As a fan, it hasn't been this good for what seems like forever.

I propose a simple scenario for spending $40Mil on a football player(s),

Vince Wilfork and/or DeMarcus Ware?

I am really proud of the NFL's commitment to finding a cure for breast cancer. It has touched so many lives. This is a great way for the league to use their brand.

Great to win! Defense was Super.

But one thing is clear our OLine is not good. After four games we have given up 12 sacks. It isn't Martz's fault now, Nor Raye's.

I agree at 35-0, I was wondering why not get Smith, J Hill and Jones in there for some playing time.
Also they better get a few more first downs and not give the Falcons and Colts too many extra offensive opportunities or they'll get 'Favred' again. The Niners need to get their D some longer breathers or they'll be dragging by the end of the season. Haven't seen a Niner defense this good in a long time!

Hi Matt, Pwillie is taking it to another level. I watched LT play linebacker for the Giants and thought nobody would ever match his intensity and skill. Now Patrick is putting himself in that realm. Teams must scheme for him as they do a QB on offense. He is scary good. He makes everyone better and will join the list of 49er greats.

VD talked like a Singletary in the podcast. Is there another daughter he could date?
Wills has gotta be DPOTW: 5 tackles, 3 assists, 3 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, 1 INT for a TD.
Battle deserves another chance but, with this game, isn't the fallback option at PR.
Baas & Rachal are upgradable if Raye is to stick around.
Another bunch of TFLs for Coffee. I'm starting to think he isn't the answer down the road. His style (one-cut, no vision) belongs more in a one-back, zone-blocking system.
Shaunhill is now (inexplicably) 10-4 as starter! Also 7-0 at Candlestick, where ATL comes to play next week.

Great Win. Hill continues to impress. Defense is great.

The O-line just about every game has looked average at best. This needs to be fixed or we will lose all RBs to injuries and have to sign S. Alexander to take carries.

With that said, I sure hope we bring Sheets up this week. Let him run back kicks and punts and provide a change of pace at RB.

Interesting that we didn't see the taser this week. I figured with Michael Robinson scheduled to get more snaps, we might see him pass the ball once. I am happy we added more screens, but I would add a heavier dose of playaction to our offense. However, I don't care how we win 35-0 I'll take it. We have the best team in the West!

This may not mean anything considering the source, but i thought I'd mention it anyway.
Deon Sanders, while reviewing the Niner highlights tonight that something may be brewing with the Crabtree signing. He mentioned it and Rich Eisen said, "You don't know!' Deon's response was, "Oh, I do know!"
Maybe it means nothing, but I guess we will see very soon!

I was wrong about Shaun Hill, he is a grinder. I think Alex Smith has better physical skills but Hill is a proven winner. Let's see if he can do it when it counts.

Any news is good news right now. This whole situation makes me feel cheated as a fan. Each 49er win tightens the screws on Parker and his greed.

It's also good to see McCloughan get some vindication as a GM with his free agent acquisitions playing very well, especially on defense, and a bunch of his draft picks starting to develop into good players as well.

I think it means even Crabtree is a believer in Shaun Hill now. Haha obviously this isn't the real negative loser but I had to post because it defies ALL LOGIC that someone could still be making arguments for Smith over Hill. I'll be just happy with Game Manager Hill giving us ring #6 a la Dilfer with the 2000 Ravens!

They are saying if there is even the slightest possibility of a rookie cap in 2011, underclass receivers with a shot will come out early. More talent in the pool will play against this idiot.

I would be more happy signing a proven G and RT.

I would love to add taylor mays next year. We would have a lock down defense for years with that extra piece. But I cant argue with improving our line. Next year will be a good year for free agent signings. The 49er brand is regaining its attraction to players who want to win, not just get payed.

Do you have a link for this? Would love to see it.

I just watched the NFL highlights again

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2009100411/2009/REG4/rams@49ers#tab:watch

and Deon indeed is talking about something brewing with respect to Craptree.

Well, it would be great if this guy can sign now, so that he has 3 weeks to get read for his firt game against Houston.

Which is the top QB coming out? I like what I see from Clausen. He's got ability as well as attitude/moxy. In fact, as I watched ND-Washington on Saturday, my gut instincts told me Clausen would be a Niner. He could be the next great pro QB.

O-Line needs lotsa improvement, but a satisfying win. And for dessert, watching the cowpukes fall on their faces in Denver! Ahhhhh, I'd smoke a victory cigar, if I smoked cigars!

thanks, sounds like good news!

I'm waiting to see if they utilize Radovich or Boone at LG actually.

Baas is definitely expendable at this point.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is his final contract year?

If so, Comp pick in waiting.

A decisive win, leaving very few question marks about the defense. The offense however...

The O still does what it takes, and nothing more. The OL needs to improve, clearly. Yikes. Let's face it, the Rams suck, and we killed them. But let's also face that if our OL does not improve, we will have trouble against the elite teams. The Rams are anti-elite.

I have to give Raye credit. We all spent the last week moaning and groaning over his play calling, but I really think he mixed it up better this week. Our execution needs to improve, but some of that is the play/push against our OL.

Our defense is playing really well, and I like the leadership I see on the team. Hill is not pretty, but he really is a gamer.

And finally, I can't say how thrilling it is, to see Vernon Davis jump up between defenders and grab the ball with his hands...and hold on to it. Cheers to you Vernon, and keep it up.

Right now, I am very much enjoying 3-0 in the division.

Go Niners!

Shaun Hill became a MAN today, for all of us to see... no one can deny that. He was one dropped pass from a 3 TDS 0 INT day. 93+ QB Rating YTD. Nice.

do you guys think snider can take over for bass, and move pashos to tackle? It seems like the best solution

The Rams are an absolutely terrible team. They may go 0 - 16 this year. Our probliems on offense, especially the offensive line as so many have pointed out, need to be fixed. The offense put no points on the board in the first half of a home game. There are good teams out there that will be able to score against our defense. The offense simply can't go into hibernation for large chunks of games and expect the D and special teams to win the game.

Off topic -- went to the game today. Every year the the IQ and average tooth count of the fans drops, It's scary. Some of these guys must have to work ten to fifteen hours just to pay for their ticket. They must have to work a month to pay for their beers. When Willis had his pick-six there are all these guys wearing #52 jerseys pounding their chests and pointing at themselves as if THEY did something. They didn't do anything except buy an effing jersey. Most of them can't even spell 'faithful' . .

Great win and I as I believe it to be the first real GPS game, an excellent indicator looking forward. We're the clear favorite to win the division. Been a while since we've been able to say that.

On a personal note, can we not talk about next years draft until after the season? The way some folks talk, you'd think getting extra draft picks is more important than actually playing the games.

I'm not on board with the folks that wanted to give Smith some playing time. This offense is nowhere near good enough yet and needs every rep it can get. Besides if Smith comes in during garbage time and picks up a few 1st downs, all the yahoos in the media & stands will conjure an instant QB controversy.

.. and you can't even spell problems. How many teeth do you have?

haha mooch said "you don't know..." it doesn't take a rocket scientist for deion to say that something is going to happen... because something is going to happen, if only to save face.

you know how they keep saying that our best player is frank gore? our running game? the "cow-bell" is 21? hmmmm...so far, it seem like the "cow-bell" was only effective in the seattle game, and shaun hill has been asked to pull the jimmy raye's stubborn ass out of the fire. plus, the defense is probably the "best player" of the team! fire jimmy raye...

Sanders was right about the tampering. Maybe he will be right about Parker caving in. Maybe Parker called him crying,
The 49ers keep winning, and I'm gonna get fired if I don't do something fast!"

3 things...

1. I am Patrick Willis's biggest fan. best LB in football. But Manny Lawson and Takeo Spikes have been terrific.

2. I don't know what supplement Nate Clements started taking between the pre-season and the regular season, but I want some.

3. In regards to the Crabtree thing, Deion does a segment at the end of the show called "primetime" who does a top 10 list of players.. Patrick Willis came in at #2.. while showing the highlights he yells out "Crabtree baby!!! On his way!!!.... I'm just sayin?!!"

Now.. Deion could be trying to deflect, because his earlier comments might have weakened the position of of Crabs and parker, but still...

Our best player is #52. Frank is still best player on offense. Though he may be the least durable. When he gets back, if we call a creative game, our offense should be able to keep defenses honest, and become more of a threat. But I agree with you, Hill has exceeded expectations.

oh.. almost forgot. I owe an apology to Jimmy Raye. the play-calling was actually intuitive. And It's time we started to talk about Greg Manusky. he has gotten more out far less talent that Rex Ryan using basically the same scheme. The "Ghost' scheme is devastating...

Wow... have to make a third post.. almost forgot.

oneniner... thank you for being reasonable. let me be the first to to welcome you to the blog. as long as you have a reasonable argument, you deserve a place at the table. glad to have you here.

I agree with you brotha. Our defense has been playing a really complete game. Offenses are really going to dread seeing our defense. Fantasy owners are gonna start sitting their players. Our defense has become our identity, and their only getting better.

You think there might just be a little 'Back Room' pressure being applied to Deion/Parker & Co by the Commish? Count on it.

Last thing Goodell wants is to have to really go through with the investigation.

In a perfect League scenario, Crabtree gets his deal prior to Nov 17 and the Commish doesn't have to assess damages. He can then fine or remove picks of any guilty party and, the NFL World walks away untarnished.

Last thing he wants to do is hand us a damage package, it challenges the integrity of the Draft and opens up a huge can of worms for future holdouts.

Deion is likely on Double Secret Probation now with orders to play 'Nice'. He's been too invloved with Crabtree and crossed the line as we all know.

It's time to make everything 'Labor and League Happy' again. Us winning games certainly wasn't helping Crabtrees' position either.

I can still question his desire to play here, but once he's signed, you at least have options to deal him wherever it's benefical for all concerned.

Marc-NJ49er: I am counting on it... I also believe the league doesn't want this to become an issue... because from the response of every owner who has gone on record, this potentially blows up the draft as we know it. I do believe parker has been warned by the league to sort this out before the deadline.

highpriest333 - my apologies. p. willis IS the best player on the team. 52 is the most dominant defensive force in the nfl!

i love how shaun hill is always called upon when the niner's run game sputters. for all the disrespect that jimmy "cow-bell" raye has given hill, hill has been performing great! raye should apologize to hill for his public comment.

I agreed with you on Willis being best on team, but Gore is best offensive weapon. Unfortunately he's a weapon that jams sometimes. Hill has exceeded expectations, but Raye's public comment took the pressure off of him. Gore is used to the pressure, Hill didn't need it. I believe the low risk style of play has enabled him to feel comfortable until he masters the offense. Gore, when healthy, is a beast. Vernon Davis may have to be added into the conversation of best weapon as well. I'm glad we have enough stars now to be having this argument. Its much better than not having any. I'm really excited about our future.

I am loving this year because of our tough-minded ways but I have to say that one of the things that I am so glad to see is our first round picks shining through. Vernon Davis and Manny Lawson are turning in solid performances on thier respective sides of the ball. Balmer has yet to show much but I believe he will have an impact next year. Staley is one of the best O-lineman we have had since we rented Larry Allen. Say what you want about Alex, but for me the jury is still out on him and his future still looks better than what I thought at the end of last year. Last but not least...P-Willy=beast. He is the best young LB in the game and the sky is the limit for him...he is by far the best first round pick we have had since Bryant Young. With 2 more firsts next year and a relatively young core of players signed to long term deals, the future is looking bright for this team and I think we have one of these 5-8 year runs where we can dominate the West and contend in the NFC every year. Happy days are here again

I think so far this year you need to make Shaun Hill the #1 offensive player. Gore has the potential to be #1 but except for the Seahawks game, he's not shown up. Yet.

The league & Parker pressure Parker? You have to be joking, he's whupped the establishment year after year after year with record breaking deals. They have zero leverage over him. Zero.

But it would be nice to see Crabtree sign, all it takes is one call from young Jed conceding he'll make those incentives doable and the kid's here. Of course, vunderkid Jed needs to pocket some of his teenage bravado & ego. Not sure he has that in him.

Well Gore only really played two games. But he had all four offensive touchdowns during those games.

"I sure hope we bring Sheets up this week. Let him run back kicks and punts and provide a change of pace at RB."

I think that's a great suggestion! He's fast and probably elusive. So far, our returners are far from desirable. I'll pass the suggestion on.

Nice to see so many positive comments. I guess there's nothing like WINNING!

I'm still having a nervous stomach in the first half of the game due to the opponents KNOWING that we are going to RUN and stuffing the box. I'd like to see more of a breather for the RB and more passing in those situations. I wonder if the weakness of the OL is the reason for the predictable run-up-the-middle repetion.

At any rate, I wish we could cure the weakness in the OL and see more passing to the many good WR's we have instead of the stagnant offense right now. I can't wait to see Brandon Jones and Jason Hill in the mixture--and getting balls thrown to them!

I think that Coffee is a valiant young RB, taking such a beating in his rookie season. I still want to see more screens, etc.

DieHard: "Mr. Crabtree, you do deserve whatever you're asking for and it's time the 49ers do pay you what you want..."

BULL! he does NOT deserve more than he is slotted, according to the NFL Draft System. And fans are NOT sorry for speaking the truth about a crabbby player who thinks he's greater than he was chosen in the Draft who ought be paid according to HIS own warped judgment. Another T.O. in the making...we don't need.

Niner Mom

To Oneniner: Glad to see you changing your mind about Hill. Just watch. He will turn out to be far better than just a game manager. As for Smith having superior physical skills, the trash heap of the NFL is littered with QB's with superior physical skills who failed to make the grade. In fact, we saw one on the field at the stick on Sunday. Kyle Bollar is big, has a rocket arm, and..... has been an utter failure.

Like most people I am happy with a 3-1 record. Before the season I expected us to be 2-2 at this time. Now comes the tough part of the schedule: Falcons, at Texans, at Colts, Titans, Bears, at Packars, Jaguars. In my pessimistic mode before the season I thought we would be 0-7 in these games. Now, with the Defense playing so well, I think we can beat the Falcons, Titans, Packers, and Jaguars. If the O line starts playing well, then we can even dream of upsetting the Colts (unlikely). I will take a 4-3 record over the next seven games, but a 5-2 would be awesome.

NFC west is well within our grasp. Go Niners.

"I'm not on board with the folks that wanted to give Smith some playing time".

Since you commented on it, we know your not on board because you missed the train a long time ago. With Smith being no.2, he needs some game speed reps just in case Hill goes down. You don't get too many 35-0 opportunities. Get that book please( Football fo Dummies)

"Of course, vunderkid Jed needs to pocket some of his teenage bravado & ego".

Like you're involved in the negotiations and know it's Jed who's causing the problem. If you know so much why do you resort to name calling when you present your view. Just the facts dude!
But you keep up your Jed hate. Should keep you warm at night. Sound familiar??

AMEN TO THAT BROTHER!!!

Everyone remember the 49ers have played the last 2 games offensively without Frank Gore, a BIG LOSS! The offense will be fine. The defense is going to carry this team to great things anyway. The offense just can't lose games turning the ball over and Hill WON'T, Smith WILL, that is the difference in the two, Hill is the STARTER.

Good comment, Jan. I've noted you frequently make good sense on here.
I'm curious as heck to know whose Mom you are, but I don't really expect you to reveal it publicly. Maybe slip in a little clue in your comments now & then and we'll see if there are any good detectives on this blog.
PS
Are you on the East Coast or just an insomniac? (3:10am!)

"Listen you Slack Jawed Neanderthal Hick..." - I have to admit that gave me a little chuckle. I suppose that's a reference to my geography. Everyone knows that people outside the bay area haven't fully evolved yet so could never fully comprehend or appreciate your brilliant points. I also have to admit that it is difficult to "listen" to your writing. So far it isn't speaking to me but I'll keep my ears open. My simpleton little mind can't understand how the offense should get a pass because the defense scored. I haven't fully grasped that concept yet so perhaps in our "battle of wits" you'll be kind enough to enlighten me. Please explain in detail how P Willis returning an interception for a TD should negate my opinions that Rachal and Baas played poorly. Or how Ray McDonald returning a fumble for a TD should negate my opinion that Morgan should have caught that ball. I'm all ears - waiting, listening - for your response. Remember I'm a neanderthal hick so use small words or better yet, draw pictures.

Yes! The Cowboys losing was the perfect cherry on top of my Sunday!

Matt,

After the 1st half I was ready to write to write about how boring and predictable this offense is and how running into a brick wall over and over again and expecting different results is just nuts. All of that changed in the 2nd half. I was so happy to see the pass to Josh Morgan for a touch down. I expected them to run run run after we were up by seven so the pass to Morgan was definitely a nice surprise. It is the killer instinct that finally came out. Today I'm happy even though the offensive line was horrible! :)

blah, blah, hate, blah, blah, hate

Another articulate response , good for you, stick to the four letter words, you're a natural.

P.S. They probably have a Vocabulary for Dummies book too!

blah, blah, hate, blah, blah, hate

I'm still having a nervous stomach in the first half of the game due to the opponents KNOWING that we are going to RUN and stuffing the box. I'd like to see more of a breather for the RB and more passing in those situations.

I believe that against the Rams we threw 3 passes to open the game,is that what you are complaining that we don't do,what we just did???
And as I have been saying to anyone who will listen, the Niners have passed more this year than they have run !!! So how is it that everyone still thinks Jimmy Raye is a run ,run, run, coach ?

...And Jan: Crabtree is nothing like T.O.,never has been !!! Crabs has always been a great team mate and very hard worker and a good citizen on and off the field.
You should be angry at his agent ,Parker, not the dumb kid who is just doing what the expert he and his family hired is telling them is best.

Marc:
Don't you think that if the Jets are found guilty, that the Niner will still get compensation from the Jets for not having Crabs from day one (if he signs) ?
The bears were not harmed at all by us supposedly tampering with Briggs, but we still had to give up a draft pick and still had to compensate the Bears.
The Jets have harmed us MUCH more than we harmed the Bears, even if Crabs signs right away.
