Matt, just curious, but why do you post stuff on Twitter and not on this site?
Matt,
My Mom, a Browns fan, (and 49er fans think they have had a rough stretch!)on our Sunday morning phone call asked what is the black bands that the football players are wearing these days just above the elbow. I told her the Browns may be wearing it as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding! Can you help?
Thanks,
DK in Virginia
well matt, from all the write-ups this week and singletary's and raye's comments do u sincerely believe smith's role in this game will be the same as hill's i.e., just manage the game while gore again tries to establish the run game?
The $9ers gonna hit em in the mouth so tuff coach Sing better put his hat backwards before it blows away
anyone know how I can watch the game online?
The nfl network commercial for Thursday's game with the Willis-Sing-Bears connection has me hyped.
But first things first, 9ers need to take care of the titans, especially with arizona getting a win. If Simms holds his own, I think good guys win 27-13.
Jim Druckenmiller.... check out atdhe.net
If that doesn't work go to stoogetv.com
Gore looking good... that throw to Davis looked awful, and probably a bad decision
Looks like the "old" Alex is back, throwing off target and 7 feet over guys heads. I certainly hope this gets cleared up fast or the renewed love affair will be over real quick....
Is Shawnte havin trouble with Gage? I'm only watching on tv but from what I've seen on a couple plays, Gage has had a step on him.
Is Shawnte havin trouble with Gage? I'm only watching on tv but from what I've seen on a couple plays, Gage has had a step on him.
Easy there 9er1 there's alot of game left. Alex looked pretty damn good on that last TD drive before the half.
VYoung is inaccurate so I'm not too worried
By the way it's nice to finally see J. Hill playing & contributing.
Brandon Jones has no business returning punts. He needs to be catching balls not returning them. It should be obvious after today that the coaching staff needs to make a change.
Is that the same old Alex?
Those two turnovers say yes
Chris Johnson has running away from the cops speed!!!
Haralson HAS to make that play. Sing talks about "finishing" & "somebody just needs to make a play" Well the 49er seem to be in position to make plays to win games but whiff everytime.
Old Alex... stares at the receiver and blows the game in the clutch
Oneniner,
I feel for you... your boy sucks and everyone is going to be all over you this week
Alex,
You are in JaMarcus territory
4 turnovers by Smith... what a freakin joke... I am sick of the 9ers mediocrity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
24 points off turnovers = lew-zuh
BAD ALEX is back. The Alex we all know hasn't been completely exorcized.
Beat by a 1 win team.
Horrible game. Turnovers and penalties.
This team is a long way away yet. We will alomst assuredly have to look at QB in the upcoming draft.
I say I hope the team gets a great look at Nate Davis at some point this year.
i am disappointed in smith play.....it was just an unbelievably horrible game playing by smith....even if there is a QB controversy and there has to be, smith has to play against the bears just to see if he can recover any semblance of being just an adequate QB
I don't put this loss all on Smith. The last int was partially his fault, but the receiver has to make that his ball. Morgan was essentially played by the defender. Has to want it more.
Too many poor throws, but several poor plays by the receivers. Plus the D wasn't exactly spectacular today. No turnovers. Poor containment. Poor red-zone. Poor pass defense.
I think they do need to learn to finish.
WOW!! Alex alone lost us this game to a 1-6 team with the worst secondary in the NFL!! Ridiculous. Time for Nate Davis? Anything but the BUST!!!!
Yep that hurts. When you turn the ball over 4 times & you get no turnovers you will lose everytime.
The 49ers lost to a Vince Young quarterbacked team. That sentence should go on the 2009 season's tombstone.
And to think that I was *THIS* close to believing in Alex Smith.
Good job Alex. Take your $45M and retire. Thanks a lot dude.
i am a smith supporter and this loss is on smith....he fumbled a ball and he did not make the correct reads, he saw the blitz right in front of him and didn't change the play on the LOS....he was hanging on by his finger nails most of the game and then he just had a meltdown
booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....
and i am saying all this and the niners do have a chance if smith would just throw it into the endzone
Hi Matt, this is Joe Gomez, thanks for kicking me off your FB site for cursing.. didnt know you were so sensitive. Anyways, please write about how Alex "Stares" down his receivers too much and how hes constantly throwing "high" to the receivers. Hes been doing this ever since his rookie season and he has never corrected none of it. These "Picks" were all your boy Matt so get off his jock! LOL
... and watch it get picked off again?
NATE DAVIS....NATE DAVIS.....NATE DAVIS....NATE DAVIS.....NATE DAVIS.....
Hey, it can't get any worse. Playoffs are a pipedream anyway. Get the kid some reps. We've seen enough.
it is so funny ... it is basically a foregone conclusion tenn won...but a quick TD and a screwup and onside recover and who knows
Hey 9er1, Ive been yelling for Nate for awhile and people thought I was crazy..LMFAO!
Disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it... Smith committed too many TO's against the porous Tennessee defense
Agreed! NATE DAVIS TIME!!!!
GOOD NIGHT ALEX SMITH!
...Alex "Stares" down his receivers too much and how hes constantly throwing "high" to the receivers...
Those two things are the most troubling. You'd think that he would have at least learned not to stare down his receivers (he did this earlier in the game but when they're completed the announcers don't point it out).
The high throws seem to be mental. Early in the game he doesn't do it, it's when the pressure is on.
Don't you just wish he'd take on a little 'ATTITUDE' when he's playing?
If anyone even attempts to blame this on coaching I'm gonna lose my mind.
You guys r dumb yeah let's put in a rookie retarded qb. The problem with this team is Jimmy raye mark roman and cutting rossum and the biggest one is the oline put manning back there he won't do anything either
Totally inexcusable! This game should officially mark the end of any playoff talk and my interest in the rest of the season. Warriors are disfunctional, Cal Bears are sadly inconsistant, and now the Niners are done. I think i'm going to ease my pain by watching the movie 2012!
What are you guys so upset about? You were ALL kissing oneniners butt all week!
And all of God's people said: "Amen"
Alex Smith, nothing more than a pipe dream.
Hey I got 1 question. WHERE WERE ALL YOU GUYS WHEN I WAS SAYING ALEX SUCKED?! HAHA
So now you guys agree? I was all alone last week and now you guys FINALLY see what ive been saying all this time huh? Alex is NOT a leader. He stares down his receivers. He throws HIGH too many times. HE IS NOT ACCURATE! LMFAO!
Aaron, don't say that about Davies. Just don't
Really? We "ALL" were?
Like I said after the Colts game, Alex Smith is who we thought he was. You can't make him great just because he was a high pick. Time to put the Alex Smith horse down. It's NATE DAVIS TIME, this season is lost as far as the playoffs go, the 49ers aren't winning 7 of 8.
If Mark Roman wants to "watch" the game he should buy a ticket. How much more of just watching him stand there can this organization take. Singletary's job is on the line in these next 8, obviously firing Martz was a HUGE MISTAKE, and Singletary will not last if he is unwilling to part ways with Jimmy Raye. Not with Holmgren, Gruden, and Shannahan all sitting out there. PATHETIC TODAY!
Excuse me qb no offense to davis just a phrase
What are you guys so upset about? You were ALL kissing oneniners butt all week!
Coach Singletary said this season, this team is going to be something special.
Hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhahahahahhahahahhahahhhhahahhahahahhahahahhhahahahahahhhahhahaha...ah ha.
Sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying.
Season is over. Warrior suck too. Giants are like watching paint dry. I guess I'll stick to surfing, cancel my Direct Ticket and save a bundle.
Physical with an "F". Yeah, F 'em.
And here I thought he was actually turning the corner. You're a joke Alex!!! Thanks for handing the game away today as well as our playoff hopes!!!!
This team ,these players should never have been put into this position in the first place. It is now time for the Head coach to take responsibility for this mess. A "BAD" choice was made with the hiring of the OC. No matter how the players played today , it falls at the feet of the Head Coach. ENOUGH!!!
I can't wait for the excuses now.
Coaching was TERRIBLE today Stampede, you are 1st and Goal inside the 10 and you give the ball to Michael "why am I still on the team" Robinson two times in a row and a pass to Frank Gore on 3rd down????? STUPID! Singletary's seat is getting HOT!!
Let's switch QB's every week, fire the OC, fire the HC...just like the Redskins. Really, with 2 OT's out, new WR on each side, we were really supposed to be perfect. This is definitely the Now Football League. With this OL there is no way we make the playoffs and if we did we wouldn't last. Get real!
I just can’t believe we lost this game!!! Please, I do not want to read any blame on Jimmy Raye and Signatory. Even, the offensive line played decent enough for us to win! For all the fans that wanted spread formation, here you have it. Maybe now you can understand why the coaching staff does not feel comfortable to pass most of the time!
Alex is a damaged good and it will take more consistency and experience for him to feel confidence in his abilities. His performance was very poor for most of the game with over throws and late throws! He was not on the same page as the rest of the receivers or frank gore.
This is so frustrating! You are not going to win in this league with 3 INTs and two fumbles…
What is worst is to watch AZ spank Chicago when we needed to win a game and catch up!
Oh now you want to call the season. I knew you were a buster from the get. I wasn't a real fan last week when I said the season was over. Ha ha ha I TOLD YOU SO! Alex is a bust, raye is out of touch, and sing is way over his head. AES you are a joke. Oh and did I mention I TOLD YOU SO! Yours truly. A realist 49er fan.
Aaron, I respectfully disagree with your opinion. You blame Jimmy raye for actually calling a more imaginative plays and the offensive line for give him decent time to throw!!! Yes, Alex was rushed on several plays however he also had many plays that should have been completions. Special teams played very well and did not allow poor field position for the team! This lost was due to poor tackling, poor QB play and some dumb penalties that stopped our momentum.
Gore, Crabs, Davis, etc. vs. the dead last passing defense in the NFL?
Last week Smith seemed to get a free pass for missing receivers badly in the comeback attempt vs. Indy but this week what's the excuse?
The o-line? The game plan? bad luck? I'm sure the Smith apologists will be in effect but I saw a qb that hasn't learned shyte since losing his job for failing to do what #1 overall picks should be able to do after years in the league and that's try to find a way to win.
Unless things really go south, you're all dreaming on Nate Davis. As much as I'd like to see him, management would never pull the trigger and admit their failures.
This season's a wrap.
I don't think the entire blame can be put on Alex Smith, although he really did suck. Looking back at the 3 wins this team has had, and the games ahead, this season is done. Playoffs are nothing but a wet dream for this team this season. Time to keep on building, and I believe it starts with a new QB, and a better o-line. Personally, I don't care if they win another game this year. Let's just hope we get some good draft picks.
After 5 Superbowls, unless you're good enough to win in the playoffs and *WIN* the Superbowl, the season is a wrap. Does anyone think we could win the Superbowl this year with this OL (2 out)? With this year's draft we'll have more depth. Just getting to the playoffs and getting stomped is not a goal in my opinion.
NO NO NO My friend. I also got alot of heat for knowing what a real qb and oc and head coach, and winning team looks like. AES, and skeebars, and hopperfan, and of course alex himself oneniner. Am I a fairweather fan now? Or did I actually know what winners look like? I want to hear the excuses for this game...............
Singletary didn't have a choice for OC! I think about 7 of them turned him down! Nobody wanted the job and they called ol' Raye and he needed the money! He's the only guy who still ran the Bear's offense from the mid '80's!
You know Raye and Singletary had a meeting of the minds or something! LOL
NOPE. Roll it back and do your homework son.
SOOOOO>>>>>> is this still going to be a special year that the fans can be proud of, Coach?
JV, I know you're smarter than that. I've read much better from you. You're blaming this loss on one run play in the red zone? Seriously? I'll give you a pass since we're all distraught over the loss, but c'mon bruh, you gotta come stronger than that.
Typical, those that need attention get to jump on the negative bandwagon. Like I said, Steve Young was beaten down by fans and he came back. Playoffs is not a goal if you get stomped in the first round - 9ers OL is too weak. This team has holes and they need more talent. This is not the Now Football League - takes drafts and talent to build for long term. BTW, wouldn't doubt that negative posters aren't on all NFL team's blogs so they can post more negativity - they need attention.
I was at the game, so I don't know what it looked like on TV. From our vatage point it sure seemed like Smith frequently locked in on one receiver as soon as he dropped back.
Can't believe that Singletary was talking about the playoffs last week with the team 3 -4. That talk should now be all done. They need to figure out if they have a viable quarterback with either Smith or Davis and start playing for next year.
And BTW, I want my money back for today's tickets.
Oneniner was calling everybody out for the last 2 weeks! Where is he now? C'mon! Get over it oneniner! You can still think up stupid facts that make no sense to make what you think is a point! Or maybe your buying Smith drinks to forget his record as a starter!
This ones on the IQ of the players. Josh Morgan are you kidding me, ball hits you in the chest twice? Mr. Maiocco, you need to ask Singletary some questions about his players having any sort of idea about football IQ. The Niners keep shooting themselves in the foot, and its not only on the QB. How many deflected balls, how many missed tackles, how many bad penalties and poorly run routes? Is this yet another rebuilding year, "trying to change the culture". I'm getting tired of Singletary's promises. All you guys blaming Alex Smith, thats the easy non true fan frustrated way to express your opinion. Its way beyond him, this team is down right immature. Does not have any sense of urgency or desire in pressure situations. Is that youth?, bad coaching? or bad personnl? All three equals formula for another losing season! Season ova!!!
JV, trust me i am frustrated as well, but the play on the 10 yard line did not cost us the game! the play of Alex Smith cost us the game despite and the poor tackling defense was still playing well and only if we did not have so many trunovers we could have won the game.
This game reminded me of JT last year!!!
Negative or Right?
On the postive note how about jason Hill??? It is about time for him to start and Mr.Bruce to less snaps
Next time the negative posters watch a good team (Pats, Saints, Colts), count the number of seconds their passer has to deliver the ball on a consistent basis versus the time 9er QB's have had all year. As the analysts all say, the "game is won at the line of scrimmage".
You just wrote: "This ones on the IQ of the players. Josh Morgan are you kidding me, ball hits you in the chest twice? Mr. Maiocco, you need to ask Singletary some questions about his players having any sort of idea about football IQ. The Niners keep shooting themselves in the foot, and its not only on the QB. You just knocked the whole 49er team and you say those who blame the QB are "nontrue fans!?"
Something is wrong with your logic pal!?
So the team threw 3 int? The team stared down 1 reciever? The team threw wildly placed balls? The team made Alex throw to the check down guy on 3rd and 15? Yeah our coaches except our dc are bad. Our o-line is bad, but they have protected Smith better than they did for Hill so far. And the so-called leader of the team is by far the worse. Time to start over AGAIN untill they get it right.
WAH WAH WAH -- Singletary and Raye again showed they cannot adequately prepare a team and call a decent game. Singletary keeps acting as though his rah-rah motivation ideas will get the Niners ready and one more time it's apparent that doesn't work. Raye can't figure out how to plan an offense--and certainly can't make good decisions about plays to call.
Sad day, and Niner fans will keep on crying.
I was at the game and it looked like 90% of the pass plays were within 5 yards. All I saw were 5 yard outs to the receivers and dump offs over the middle. Alex Smith's strength is deep ball, so why didn't Jimmy Raye call deep pass plays? I think throwing the ball downfield would have changed the game by making the Titans defense respect the long ball. Even though Alex Smith played poorly, I think a lot of the blame should be put on poor play calling by Jimmy Raye.
Stampede too,
It didn't cost them the whole game, but you go for it on 4th and an inch, get the 1st down, and then the 1st two plays you run on 1st and 2nd down and goal to go are to Michael Robinson????? What the hell is that, might has well have given it to Gore up the gut 3 straight! Davis and Crabtree, don't wait until 3rd down to put pressure on the defense. I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY you get rid of Martz when him and Singletary were smoking hot at the end of last year against the Jets and Redskins without a viable replacement??? Stop the Bubble Screens already, is this Kirk Ferentz at Iowa??? Martz had adjusted to Singletary and the offense looked sharp and now this?? Robinson, Roman, Battle, Bruce, and Alex Smith have no business being on the field! Cut them already!!! Heck, the announcers were even saying at the end how pathetic the 49ers kickoff return game is!
And there it is. The o-line excuse. I dont know what you have been watching. This o-line the last two games have protected Smith better than they have all year. These two games have been by far the best this o-line has played this year. Just quit Hopperfan. One day your on one side the next your on the other. Just stop. There are NO excuses left for Smith.
Anybody know where oneniner is???
My fellow Niner fan, how do you assume Jimmy Ray did not call any long passes!!! How do you know Alex just dumped off the pass rather than throwing it deep? Usually it is the QBs responsibility to look at the coverage and base on their reads throw the ball. Also, what about VDs long reception?
Now, I am not particularly a Jimmy Ray fan but I have a feeling if you would put a savior QB in our line up they would do a lot better with the talent around them.
The attention starved just keep going...Jeremy Newberry said on post-game show that the 9ers lost it on the defensive and offensive lines. Fumble by Smith due to bad block by Snyder was the momentum changer as pointed out by many and especially former center, Newberry. O line had their moments but didn't sustain blocks.

Matt,
Your chronological detail of Alex Smith's career and the last two paragraphs sums it all up (best factual write-up I've seen on the subject). There is no way this kid is a bust. If the organization gives him time, and he can get continuity from the HC and OC, he may be something special. My concern at this point is the weak o-line and keeping him healthy. We definitely don't need him hurt and have a setback.$$$$$$
Negative or right? We are negative because we dont think like you mr positive. If Im negative than Im also right.
When replacing Steve DeBerg with Joe Montana Bill Walsh was asked why he did it!
Walsh said: "Steve DeBerg plays just good enough to lose."
Alex Smith & oneniner = Steve DeBerg! LOL
You forgot to add Nate Davis=Start Rest of Season. Let's see what the 49ers got there, everyone knows what they have with the other two.
Singletary just created a QB problem. He can't change QB's now or he looks totally confused. He can't put Davis in because the kid needs time and it'll give everyone the impression he's chuckin' the season.
I guess he'll just have to call Mike Ditka up and ask him what to do!
oneniner, tell me how my ass taste, thank you!-Shaun Hill
Very depressing game today. I'm torn on my evaluation of Smith because I think two of his picks were a little flukey, but they were daggers to the heart. We paid dearly for each one. Regardless I think Smith should be back in the saddle Thursday Night . . . which will be a battle to preserve hope for both teams.

Matt,
Thanks for sticking up for my boy Alex. I also want make clear that Alex has not arrived...he's not even close! The kid has been out of action for 2 years. He's a work in progress just like the whole offensive unit is but it looks promising based on the 6 qtrs we've seen so far. Like I said before young NFL players are only going to get better by simply being on the field & competing. You can't substitute that. Look for Alex to continue to improve & getting a victory Sunday while the Cardinals lose in Chicago. That sounds nice doesn't it?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$ How is your boy now?
Shaun Hill=washed up journeyman. Alex Smith=bust #1 draft pick...the kid stares down his receivers, doesn't scan the field well, holds the ball to low....he's shown 0 ability to be the 49ers QB now or, in the future....he's a choke artist too. Ever see Brodie, Montana or, Young perform to this level after 5 years in the league? What did they have in common?? They were winners and had the ability to "pull it off." Let's be realistic, we're 3-5 and we know, both Hill and Smith are not going to help our offense grow....we need a new QB (and I'm not a rush to snap judgement dude either) and we need to give Nate a chance. We have 8 games remaining, he's watched 1/2 the season from the sidelines. He's built like Big Ben, has a cannon for an arm and nothing but a high upside. Start building around Nate now and quit screwing around with Hill or Smith. I've played college ball and watched the 49ers for 45+ years; anyone who knows the game, can see Hill and Smith are not winning QB's....despite our lines problems...basic fundamentals like throwing the ball away, not staring at a receiver; THESE GUYS DON'T PERFORM....Smith's a choke artist...See want you got with Nate, Coach Singletary and that will give you a leg up going into next years draft and those 2 #1's.
My philosophy, if the ball touches your hands, you either catch it or make sure no one else catches it. Deflected balls for interceptions are on the wide receiver. The check down on 3rd and 15, can the WRs's get seperation in their routes, does not look like we have one burner on the field that can stretch the field. Yes Smith played bad but I'm saying you solely blame him and you did not wacth the game with an educated eye for football. Terry, read above, same for you!
Couldn't have been better put, it's Nate Davis TIME boys and girls. Hill and Smith won't be on this roster in 2010, Nate Davis will, let's see what he's got!
Smith constantly threw into 2-3 man coverage or, when a defender was draped all over a receiver...he has inconsistent "touch" and stares at his primary receiver...he looks at 1-2 receivers typically and makes it easy for the DB's to key on his targets....this is basic QB fundamentals and Smith doesn't have it. He's not a winning NFL QB, despite how much we all want him to succeed and unfortunately, despite the 49ers large investment. He's a bust.
Exactly JV11979! Smith and Hill will not win with the Niners.......continuing to play them, is a waste of time for the organization...it's like throwing good money after bad. A winner finds a way to get it done and know, when to move on. It's time to give Nate his opportunity. He'll have a solid 8 games under his belt, going into next season and a full 1 1/2 years with Jimmy Raye and the young receivers.
Whhell myyyy philosphy is when you throw high, low and to a reicever thats covered all over his back. Those arent catchable. Thank you come again!
Go sit with oneniner and have a good cry! And ask Alex to come along too!
Listen Mr. Football Philosopher! No matter what you say, INT's go in the INT column of a QB! You don't throw the 200MPH to a reciever 5 yards away!
Smith is through in SF! Book IT! And so is your putrid philosophy!
Before you bash Smith, what about the defense? The deep ball to Gage that he lept up and miracuosly grabbed? the 4th and goal where Haralson the moron, all he had to do was push Johnson out of bounds! And, allowing Johnson to tear up the 2nd best rush defense in the NFL for 135 yards. Guys we are a bad football team with or without Alex Smith. This is not on him, lets face the facts, we are not a championship/playoff team. We are bad, shooting ourselves in the foot every game. You want to blame Smith go ahead, I agree he was bad, but the route of the problem is bigger than him.
Fabulous. A good offense will keep their defense off the field. You can't expect a defense to keep a team from scoring, when Alex gives them good field position with turnovers. Alex is the QB, take the heat or leave. He stares down receivers, throws into tight coverage and he throws high balls, that can be intercepted if tipped...not to mention his 200mph toss to a RB 5 yards aways....JEEZ. If we had Aaron Rodger, Mr. Fabulous, we would be a much better team and without Alex Smith.
So you prefer the check down, take the sack Shaun Hill offense? Take your logic and keep watchin with your girlfireinds!
Look pass the deflected INT's and bad field position and you still have a very bad team just not ready to compete at a highlevel. Coaches , defensive players, everyone!
24 points off of Smith turnovers. 10 points allowed without turnovers and a short field. I would say Smith was the problem today. Take yourself somewhere else with comments like that. You should go give oneniner a hug.
Fabulous; NO, give NATE a chance. Give him the balance of the season to play and grow, the off season running the #1 offense at camp (familiarize/work with the young receivers and Jimmy Raye)in preparation for the 2010 season. Smith and Hill are busts; journeyman at best.
Fabulous, are you for real? Get serious, Smith is a major bust, like Drunkenmiller and Walsh got rid of him!
Why do you want to blame one guy? The first half you were probably singing the Alex Smith praises. Second half you give up 24 points? You have no special teams help? You make no adjustments to Johnson who carved up your run defense? Like I keep commenting, all the four lossses in a row go beyond the QB position.
Alex Smith SUCKS, continue on...
Fabulous, you're thinking like a Neandertal. A good QB spots the open reciever, doesn't throw into double coverage, holds the ball up (preventing fumbles), throws OB to prevent a sack and puts the ball in a catchable area for the receiver...Smith doesn't do that nor, does Hill and it's 3 and out; putting the defense on the field for the majority of the game. Special teams are not bad; excellent placekicker and punter, coverage teams not bad, but they need an explosive return man. OL needs some help, but performed better today. Defense needs a premium pass rusher, but they don't grown on trees. The QB position in the NFL is a highly paid position; why, because you have to perform. A premium QB, like Manning, Brady, Brees helps his team...Smith does not help the 49ers, he hinders them...he does not make his team better! The loss to the Vikes was heartbreaking, as was the loss to the Colts; to great ballclubs. The Texans and Falcons are well above average NFL teams...today's game should have been won, if we had a decent QB.
You obviously did not watch the game sober, I get that. But you put Nate Davis in and your telling the team we give up on the year. Its week 8, half way through the season, your going to throw a rookie in and think he will be better able to read exotic defenses this time of year? he was a 5th rounder for a reason.
Just read from Lynch that all the players, coaches and upper managment support Smith. Your thinking what else are they suppose to do? No, he will get better once eveyone else around him gets better, deal with it, this is who you have as your QB, the sooner you realize that and become a fan of his the better place you will be in. It is what it is, you want to diss Smith go ahead, be a pansy fan!
Fabulous; your thinking is status quo...not visionary thinking like Bill Walsh. Nate was a 5th rounder, solely due to his dyslexia....he's a fantastic athlete and QB. No you're not telling the team to throw it in; what negative thinking. You must of been a wrestler! Anyone will tell the press they back someone...what are they going to say, "Alex sucks!" I watched the game sober, did you? Tell me Fabulous, where do you get your knowledge; did you play high school ball or, pick up and watch TV? A fan realizes the teams deficiency and strives to correct it, not embrace it.
Your boy fumbled TWICE.
I think your missing the big picture and I get your passion for the Niners, but in reality, we have no clue as to the inner workings of the team and what goes on in playcalling, route running and all the stuff that goes with it. Smith played bad, yes, not denying that, but he is the short and long term answer for 2009. Get use to that, there not going to throw Davis in or go back to Hill. they need to correct alot of other areas before continuing to play musical quarter backs. That's not the answer. The answer right now is to make everyone else around Smith better and make sure he keps developing. Remeber he has not played in 2 years. I'm not making excuses for him, I'm just beleiving in him and the team to get better cause thats all any fan can do?
"A fan realizes the teams deficiency and strives to correct it, not embrace it". Your not a coach, you cant correct anything except your bad whinning about Smith!
HEY CAN YOU GUYS JOIN ME ON 49ERS.COM? ALL THOSE GUYS ARE BIG ALEX LOVERS!

Dont be an idiot. Peyton Manning would have EASILY put a "W" in the win column. Or are you a Alex Lover too? LOL
Im with you.. whens the movie come out? lol
Hes not retarded he has a learning disability and he has proven it has NOTHING to do with his QB play. Anybody other than Hill or Smith is GREAT at this point.
He doesn't have a learning disability you moron. He has a reading disability.
Fabulous thinking, just Fabulous and you didn't tell us, where you obtained all your insight. Did you play ball? Where and for how long, what position? I think your a TV viewer, who proclaims himself an expert. You continue to back a loser, like Smith, give him a chance you proclaim....the guys a bust. How many freaken chances does he need, to demonstrate he's incapable of being an upper echelon NFL QB. Why don't you go read a book...start with the one about Bill Walsh...you might learn a few things.
Red&Gold: Funny thing is I was saying the same exact things you are saying now for years and years. The more I said it, the more people said I was wrong. I will keep saying it until this bum and McClueless is long gone. ALEX SMITH IS A BUST!
I was on the sideline all game. Titans were NO where near the 1-6 record that they had. Young has some skills. Give Tennessee some credit they played good..
