Best chocolate? Best romantic restaurant? What do you want? Where are you going? Where do you wish you were going? Shout out.

I'm going to Vegas this year, but I'll be stopping at Woodhouse in St. Helena for a box of chocolates before we leave.

If I WERE going to be here for Valentine's Day, I'd probably go to Willi's Wine Bar or, if I was up to spend a little more, I'd get the tasting menu at Redd in Yountville.

I'm thinking about heading over to Woodhouse for some of the pink himalayan salt chocolates. Yum.

I LOVE Gandolf's chocolates. I don't know where they sell them except the Santa Rosa Farmer's Market. Anyone know? I read that Marimar Estate is doing a Valentine's themed blending event that day, too- which sounded interesting.

We are going for an early Valentine's dinner at Chloe's:

We are excited to announce our new program of Table d'hote dinners at Chloe's French Cafe.

Beginning in February, the cafe will close at 5:00 pm on Friday and offer a monthly Table d'hote dinner.
Keeping in line with the French tradition of festive banquets, our guests will be seated at long tables, where they will enjoy a menu based on the wealth of regional French cuisine.
This is a great way to share good food and wine with friends as well as a convivial way of making new ones!
Our first dinner will take place in our new event space, L'Olivier on Friday, February 13th at 6:30pm.
Menu

Selection of Passed Appetizers

Pea shoot & baby greens salad with roasted cauliflower, seared pears and Petit Basque cheese with garlic buttermilk creme dressing

Classic Boeuf Bourguignon with tender morsels of beef slowly braised in red wine accompanied by roasted mushrooms, herb potatoes and caramelized shallots.

Paris Brest au chocolat- Crispy pate a choux with chocolate creme mousseline and caramel sauce.

Coffee & Tea

This prix fixe menu is $26.50 per guest and includes passed appetizers along with a 3-course meal. A selection of French & Sonoma wines will be available for purchase by the glass or bottle. Reserve your seat now by calling the cafe at 707-528-3095.

I'm taking my wife to the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center. Their chefs have a new sweet treat--special dessert concontions paired with wines. It should be a nice way to get the mood started--more novel than a box of chocolates.

My husband and I are going to our favorite Valentine's spot, La Gare in Railroad Square. A favorite for there always great service, wonderful wines, and DELICIOUS food! I don't think La Gare gets the credit it deserves! Happy Valentine's everyone!

Ok- I e-mailed the owner of Gandolf's and aside from showing up at some local farmers' markets, he just ships the chocolates (doesn't have a storefront.) I picked some up this morning at the SR Farmer's market. Some were a gift, but a couple for me. With coffee- oh, heaven!

Suggestions for a younger couple? I'd like something romantic and intimate, and perhaps a little bit hip, if possible. Have thought about doing sushi in the city (recently read a feature on an amazing-looking restaurant in Hayes Valley), but I'm probably too late for that.... thoughts, anyone?

The dinner at Chloe sounds nice, and the price is right, but sheesh, 6:30 pm? Early Bird Specials aren't so romantic.

A couple of other "hipper" choices are the one at Humble Pie and Rocker Oysterfellers. Sushi is so sexy, but i'm really frustrated at the prices in the north bay. McNibs and I recently went to Kitaro on Geary (SF) and it is the most amazingly cheap (but good) sushi on the planet. Argh. Why can't we have good cheap sushi in the NB?

Humble Pie sounds fun (never been there before) but I'm not so sure about steak.... I'd like to check it out some other time, though.

Here's the sushi joint I was talking about: http://sebosf.com/site/menu.html

No reservations, which is both good and bad. Maybe I will tough it up and try and go on V-Day. Or maybe the night after for izakaya?? Hmm.

I take it you've tried Kabuki in Petaluma? It's been a while since I've been (too long) but Andy is a hell of a sushi chef and their fish is FRESH. Truly astonishingly deliciously fresh. I'm not interested in rolls, so the freshness and quality of the fish is all that matters to me, and on that level, Kabuki delivers. Try it, and try the toro & amberjack if it's available, and if not, get a Tom's Special and some butterfish.

Oh, I just noticed you specified "cheap." Kabuki's not cheap, but it won't break the bank either. Not sure bottom dollar should be your main priority when you're eating raw fish however.....

I heard that Jack and Tony's restaurant on 4th St will be opening for walk ins on Valentine's day, a rumor has it that they will not be serving alcohol yet.
Their phone # is 707-526-4347
I recommend that if you have not make a reservation anywhere else to take your sweetheart there.

Instead of our usual LaGares we are heading out for a walk on the beach, rain or shine, and then to Union Hotel in Occidental for a nice casual early dinner. Bringing home all the leftovers to look forward to Sunday. YUMMY!
