Stormy's??

Postby Wojamo on Thu Feb 05, 2009 11:08 AM

I keep hearing about this Stormy's, and I was wondering- have you been and/or could you review it? I'd be interested in others' feedback as well. We're not opposed to driving far for good food (hello? Rocker Oysterfellers?) but was wondering what you think first.

A friend and I went to Stormy's in Bloomfield several times in the last few years after hearing about their prime rib. We heard they cooked and served it on the bone, which I think adds much to the flavor, but found out they now use a boneless roast. The meat was very good, but certainly not great. The portion is OK and comes with soup, salad and potato. They also have steaks, fish and pastas. The atmosphere is definetly rural steak house, mothing fancy, but accomindating. It is family friendly. There is a full bar.
I would go there again for the prime rib if I felt a desire a ride in the county as both the food and value was good. Hope you enjoy it.

When I need a steak fix this is definitely the place we like best. We have brought friends that can't seem to resist the Prime Rib but always go back for the Rib Eye. I also get the onion rings to go along with the steak and they are great. The other thing not to miss is the Martinis. Roger has the bar all set up with the glasses chilling in a trough of ice. When he shakes your martini you get the glass filled along with what is in the shaker. Almost like 2 martinis!

Stormy's, alas...not what we remembered on our first visit long ago. Methinks the owners are tired...and need to retire. God knows they've sold their souls to make this the legendary eatery that it is. Was given the wrong bill but didn't question it until we got home because it didn't seem quite right. Called back and they admitted they'd gotten the tables mixed. Not really apologetic. Food is tired too! We got the impression that they are just too tired to keep up the pretense of good customer service. We're sorry that we won't go back.

The owners might well have been tired on a given night when c-maniac visited, but one of the reasons my wife and I return again and again is because of the owners and the warm family feeling they give you. They're grateful you're there, and they do their best to make sure you feel more than welcome. I'd enhance the menu, especially the side dishes, but you go there for one reason only, the meat, especially the prime rib. And, the bar is a great place to hang, with an old-fashioned road house fireplace kept burning hot, great conversations, and salt of the earth Two Rockers. We need places like this, just like we need on the other end of the Spectrum, Starkeys.

I heard wonderful things about Stormy's from friends and we went recently, a fun group of 8. Started off at the bar until everyone showed up and the owner was a great bartender, giving samples of new and different beers. Soup and salad was wonderful start to a questionable meal. I had the Filet Mignon ordered rare and it was well overdone. 2 others ordered the prome rib which came COLD. They politely let the waitress know, she took it back to the kitchen and microwaved it. Everyone else ordered the Rib Eye and were more than satisfied. Quite a mixed experience. I'd like to think it was just a one time bad deal and i will definately give them another chance because it was comfortable friendly and warm but i am fearing another troubling expensive experience.

Is it just me, or when people don't spell or punctuate correctly, are you more likely to dismiss their comments? I know I am!
When we lived in Sebastopol 5 years ago, we would venture out to Bloomfield to have dinner at Stormy's.
Preferably on a stormy night. The bar is fantastic!
The portions were huge and they had a great, cheap, wine list. We had our first taste of Johnson's family vineyard wines there. My only complaint was with the chowder--way too much pepper. Things change over time though. The last time we went was 2 years ago. The food was a little spotty, but the service was very good. I think it's worth the drive just to check it out and enjoy the destination.

I've been going to Stormy's for over 20 years...at least once a year. I've gone with a group of 20 to just me and what's his name(?).

The meat is the key...and so is tha bar. Everything else is forgettable. But, it's a funky, quaint, old school place that you have to try...at least once.

Give it a go and check it out.

I have been going to Storm's for years. I have had some very good dinners and some bad ones. There are times I don't go back for months. Why do I go back? I like the destination, the people that run it and the atmosphere. I keep hoping it will get better.

Stormy's is worth the short drive. Portions are big and I've always had great service. I am a seafood eater and their fish has always been tops. Worth at least one visit, but I think you will be back.

I grew up in Bloomfield and know the owner as well as his late mother. When my mother-in-law passed, the entire family went to Stormy's for dinner. I was appalled at the service, it took 3 hours for our food and I wanted to walk out the door. Roger definately did not live up to the teachings of his wonderful mother, treating everybody fairly and being good to people was his mother's motto. Unfortunately after many years of going to Stormy's for dinner with just my hubby or with the entire family, I can honestly say the $400 dinner that we had was not worth $40. Definately will not return. Stormy's is resting in peace now in our family and we will remember the fun times playing in the cemetary, going to the 2 room school and trick or treating Stormy's for the penny candy she would give us kids. Never going back....
