Asian Stores?
Hi all! I'm looking for a new supply for Asian groceries- Thai/Vietnamese fresh produce in particular. I currently go to a place on Sebastopol Rd., but their quality has gone downhill. Any recommendations?

Re: Asian Stores?
My favorite is Asia Mart on Guerneville near Fulton. They have a very large selection, including some fresh produce.
If I remember correctly, I believe it's one of Michele Anna Jordan's favorites, as well.

Re: Asian Stores?
There is a Thai market Aaroon which is located on Cleveland ave. It has pretty good choices with great pricing.

The Asia Mart has a fantastic selelction of all things Asian and good prices. I lived for years in Hawaii and this store beat the selection they had. Coner( almsot) of Fulton and Guernville Road

I totally agree, the store on Sebastopol Rd has such bad quality, it's just sad. I especially hate it when it comes in a bag or stapled container (like the garlic), where I can't smell or look into it. It's almost always spoiled, rottened, or expired. There's one on Petaluma Hill Road & Santa Rosa Ave, it's kinda crowded but has great herbs, veggies and the seasonings are usable. As far as the Frozen meat product, I'm not too sure about it.

Re: Asian Stores?
I'm so sad to say that Asia Gourmet on Montgomery has gone out of business. It was the best and I've visited them all. The best place is now ASIA MART on Guerneville Road just east of Fulton. They even have a selection of Indian foods such as Kari Leaves.

Yeah, I'm really sad about Asia gourmet as well. They were really sweet people. I miss them!
Re: Asian Stores?
now now, the little market on Seb. Rd. isn't all that bad. I live just down the street and frequently shop there for last minute produce and sauces. I agree sometimes it can be a bit stinky (that means the fish is really fresh, especially when it's still moving) and they could use a huge lesson in aesthetics, but it really is a little family affair and those things in bags are bought in bulk and bagged by the family. consequently they're really inexpensive.

Asia Gourmet gone? I am so sad. They were an awesome team. I stopped going when I left the area and was just going to trek over there soon. At least I know. Asia Mart is the next best thing.

Re: Asian Stores?
Mekong Market (on Sebastopol Road) can get alittle funky but is a nice family business that I like to frequent. The issue is turn over, items just don't move that fast.
If fish is stinky and you can smell it in the store it is NOT fresh. Frsh fish does not smell fishy.
Asia Mart on Piner is a great place to get lots of Asian grocery items, especially Vietnamese herbs.
Never cared for Asia Gourmet; not much food there.
Wehn I can, I love to make atrip to Clement St in SF to hit Asain groceries there.

Re: Asian Stores?
Without a doubt, the best selection and prices happen at Asia Mart. Chao Ma is a charismatic Cantonese girl who learned English here and has developed her business with the help of her 2 sons and husband Gi for many years.
You will find a limited selection of fresh produce (always my main complaint) because she is Chinese and it goes against her grain to throw anything away.
But she has expanded the rest of her inventory since the move to Guerneville Road.

Re: Asian Stores?
Don't overlook the place most Asians have known about for years. Its Phnom Penh in Sana Rosa at the intersection of Petaluma Hill Rd and Santa Rosa Avenue. Probably the first asian grocery store in the area and still my favorite.
