Easy. El Puente, 1709 Santa Rosa Ave(next to Denny's and Chevron). They have THE best fajitas of all time. Get the Fajitas Trio for two, it's amazing. Really good salsa and drinks too. This is real Mexican, not a Tex Mex or white-run Mexican chain. Bonus: Mariachi bands are almost always around in the evenings.

I have to put in a vote for El Coronel in Sebastopol although I also like the place Vince suggested, too.

El Puente for sure! Wish there were more places with a full bar. The place on Farmers and Bennett Valley Road is ok but the margaritas aren't great.

Mi Pueblo on Petaluma Boulevard North has outstanding food (try the chile rellenos), great service and full bar with tasty Margaritas.
Tip: Get there early.

I have lived in Sonoma County on and off for 6 years, and still have not found good mexican food. When I travel to Arizona and New Mexico, I find great Mexican food. You can taste the passion in the food down there...nothing like that here. However, it sounds like I will need to pay a visit to El Puente...

And tasty margaritas.

Old Mexico used to be a great place. My family and I have patronized Old Mex since the early 1970's when they were a little hole in the wall place in a strip mall on Montgomery Drive. Having left SR in 1995 I've only eaten there a few times since then. Their tacos were killer.

El Charro Mexican Restaurant, 1529 Farmers Ln, Santa Rosa has a full bar and excellent food, plus the staff is very friendly and service is fast. Also a fine place to go with kids. Don't let the strip mall location deter you. When in Petaluma, Mi Pueblo is EXCELLENT! We'd be at Mi Pueblo probably weekly if it were closer.

Based on comments here, we went to El Puente yesterday. We both came out saying that it was definitely nothing special. My margarita tasted pedestrian, and the tamale/enchilada plate was even less so - overcooked pork tamale and dry chicken in the enchilada, with an unremarkable red sauce. My husband's carne asada tacos had overcooked meat also, and were encased in chopped cilantro.

I prefer the shredded chicken enchiladas at Chileno's (which doesn't qualify in this thread because they don't have a bar)in Santa Rosa. And Velasco's North of the Border in Petaluma on Western - their carne asada actually still has some pink to it and is tender! Don't recall though if they serve alcoholic drinks other than beer and wine. I believe they do.

I eat at El Puente at least once a week because it is close to work and I have always been satisfied. I love the ambiance that the Mariachi provides but I would have to favor Old Mexico as their food is much better in my opinion plus they serve the all mighty “Bola’s”.!

vineyard inn restaurant out on highway 12 has truly great mexican food and bar. the margaritas are top notch and authentic (no corn syrup flavored margarita mix there). cerviche, a favorite of mine that i order anytime it's on the menu, is the very best i've had. they have other things besides mexican too, nothing is even mediocre; it's all delicious. and one added thing i really like, it's made with all organic, local products! the place has a great patio area when the weather is nice and nice cozy indoor seating when it's colder. i went there today. love it more every time i go!

El Farolito in H'burg has great carnitas and etc... Quaint bar with many different margaritas; Many high end tequilas also (as well as lagunitas and Sierra Nevada & others on tap). Amazingly unpretentious given its location right off the plaza.

My husband and I have eaten at El Coronel in Sebastopol for years. Then we discovered Mi Pueblo (and their Chile Rellenos) in Petaluma. Now it's always a toss-up which direction we head for Mexican food--but it's always one or the other of these two. Best Margaritas around--they both let you choose the tequila for your drink, and they are a good size and value.

I'm 5th generation from Sonoma County & the best Mexican restaurant with full bar, hands down, would be El Coronel is Sebastopol. It's not a huge place, but the service is good, the drinks are great, and the food even better. If anyone just wants to take a lovely afternoon drive out to Sebastopol and try this place out, it won't disappoint.

You guys think this is "Authentic" mexican food? El puente, mi pueblo, ect...... If you are really up for good authentic MEXICAN FOOD. You simple have to try. LA CABANA in Santa Rosa, CA 925 Corporate Center Parkway. They have the BEST BIRRIA, MENUDO, CAMARONES ALA DIABLA, CAMARONES AL MOJO DE AJO, AND ON SAT. & SUN. HANDMADE TORTILLAS. NO BAR.

I too like Mi Pueblo, but equally good and easier to get to is Tonyan in Rohnert Park. The margaritas are great and their soup is terrific, and a huge bowl. We eat there at least once weekly and they have many faithful customers I've learned since I see the same people there often. And they remember you and treat you like family. It's in the shopping center with Raley's just off Rohnert Park Expressway. Enjoy.

Dos Amigos in Cotati. Have been going there ore years.
Excellent food with outstanding service. Although,
they do not have a full bar, they do serve beer and
margaritas. Don't really know why the question is "best
mexican food w/full bar". Doesn't it really only matter how the food is?

white owned? i don't think was meant to be a racist comment. i think most ethnic resturants have better food if it is made by folks who were raised in that culture. however, peek in the kitchen at Kwei Bin, the cooks? all Mexican-American. peek in the kitchen at the Italian resturant near Kwei Bin, in the kitchen? Mexican_American cooks. the owner is Jose Perez. all of these places have great food, great cooks, chefs, owners that take pride. Mi Pueblo on Petaluma Blvd. is the best.

LAS GUITARRAS in Rohnert Park is the BEST!
It is located right off the freeway between Cotati & Rohnert Park and they make the best MARGARITAS and AUTHENTIC mexican food around-their Tacos are the real thing. They used to have a killer Sunday Brunch where you could taste everything. They also serve my favorite- the best Huevos Rancheros anywhere!(including Mexico!)
