Several readers have suggested Mike Shanahan would be a perfect offensive coordinator for the 49ers. I agree, but I don't see him coming to the Niners as an underling to Mike Singletary, a beginner head coach. Seems unrealistic considering who Shanahan is and what he's done -- won two Super Bowls.
But as long as we're in Fantasyland, how about this? Jed York gets on the horn to Shanahan and says, "Mike, I've been thinking over my lack of experience and Scot McCloughan's lack of experience and we'd like you to come to us and run our football operation. We'll call you Pres. of Football Ops and pay you a fortune."
Shanahan might just accept that deal. It would be a terrific development and, hey, sometimes fairytales do come true.
Can someone please forward this blog to Master York ASAP...
I'll say this again-
Shanahan is washed up. Since Elway has retired, he's only won the division once in the last 10 years.
In Singletary We Trust. Get a clue.
Lowell,
Why the love affair for Shanahan?
He's won one playoff game in ten years and his drafts and free agent record stinks.
Let's give the new guy a try.
Shanahan is a PROVEN WINNER despite what some of these blind people write!!! They wouldn't know a winner if it smacked them in the face! They're used to seeing losers! They actually believe the York's will deliver a winner! Even after ALL these years of running the WORST franchise next to Detroit's!
Shanahan is a winner! My only thought now is that after he was interviewed by little Jed, he'd probably LAUGH!! Scratch his head in unbelief! And get the next plane out of SF!
Besides! The losers that back the Singletary hiring are used to his Mooch offense!! 3 times up the middle and pray for a field goal!
You'll see a blind person when you look in the mirror whiner.
Simple- Tell me what Shanahan has done in the last 10 years with the Broncos? I'm waiting.

Lowell
Much as I would love to have Shanahan as part of the
49re family, the one role I do not
want him in, is as GM.Wwhen he took over GM duties at Denver,
the is what got him fired. While I do not
think much of Scott M.'s record on high
picks, at least Stayly is adequate and Willis
outstanding...........and that beats Shanahans' last
4 years at Denver.
gary
I never understand why people get so excited about the opportunity to hire someone who just got sacked, especially someone who has just overseen a team that folded up like a cheap lawn chair. Singletary may be unproven, but how's is that worse than a proven failure?
Hey Randy? Compare Shanahan's record to the 49ers the last 10 years? What do you have? In those 10 years you point out, compare where the 49ers ended up each year and where the Broncos ended up!!??
Now check out how Elway did in his Super Bowls before Shanahan and what he did with Shanahan??
I think I just DESTROYED your analysis!! Ol' buddy!
Terry, I submit you know next to nothing about NFL coaching.
Shanahan is a well respected coach in the league, ask other coaches, talk to people in the NFL. On the other hand the 49ers are locked-in with a guy with less real coaching experience than the average 30 year old JC coach. His focus is to attempt to replicate the mid 80's Bears. Won't happen, wrong talent, and wrong coach. The typical beer & wings fans are so busy filling their fantasies with nonsense they can't see the truth. Good work as usual Lowell, can't believe the crap you take from these hicks.
What really amazes me Lowell is how these 49er fans with negative comments about your belief in Mike Shanahan have had nothing but losing since Shanahan left the 49ers! They wouldn't know what a winner really is! They just dream that Singletary is the answer the same way they dreamed Erickson and Nolan were the answer!
Anyone who compares Shanahan's record since he left the 9ers to the record the HC's of the 9ers have had in that time, and says Shanahan is a loser either doesn't watch NFL Football or is completely ignorant to what a winning HC is!
I guess if some fans watch nothing but losers like the Yorks have put on the field, thier dreams of a winning team actually becomes a mirage you think is the real thing!? You become confused between what is a REAL WINNER and the loser you've been watching!
My comment was directed to Randy, not Terry, sorry.
Shanahan is a great coach, however it's been proven you are hard pressed to run the front office/operations and also have the position of head coach. Shanahan will likely run a front office, or be a head coach, period, but he won't be on the market long, if he wants to jump back in.
The Yorks have no style or sense of history, their timing stinks, and they are easily impressed in my opinion.
