I'll start off by telling on myself. I missed Tom Cable's weekly press conference today. He usually holds it at 2 p.m. Today he held it at 11:30 but I didn't know in time because the Raiders have deleted me from their email list. Josh Dubow from the Associated Press kindly emailed me a transcript of the presser.
Why have I been deleted? Why do I never get the basic news about Raiders' pressers and trades and all the usual stuff. Because I write the truth about the Raiders. The Raiders don't like the truth. They have a tough guy image but their egos over there are fragile and when I write that they stink they think I'm being unfair. I think I'm being truthful.
This thing about not keeping me informed shows how petty the Raiders are. That's their problem. They also have deleted from their email list Tim Kawakami and Monte Poole because they also write the truth. I consider us a select group and I know it's a badge of honor to be on the Raiders enemies list.
Any Bay Area sports columnist not on the Raiders enemies list should be ashamed.
well, that's petty. can you at least post the transcript here on the blog?
Lowell
What you and these other people that named are your opion, not always the truth. And this comes right out of the Glen Dickey school of reporting.
I am all the way on the other side of the country, and I can understand why you fools are excluded.
I have read you long enough, 20 plus years, to know you have a lot of petty attitude also. Kawikami to. I would delete you from the email list also. Why include you when 99 times out of 100 you write negative about the raiders?
maybe one day you will learn- your opinion on raider matters are not desired or in any form wanted by a raider fan or any representative of the raiders- it has nothing to do with the truth, nmost find you a complete mess as a culumnist. it is really that simple- I concluded a long time ago the raiders were a very flawed group but I found you to be a real loser as a commentator.
As I told you before, you do not represent raider fans or even fans, you are a petty nuisance, nothing more or less. Go away, Mr Padecky is a far better represntative columnist to general spots fans. He is a helluva a lot more stable then you and is far less needy for approval and head knods.
Don't flatter yourself. Every journalist ever blackballed thinks they were banished because they wrote truth. Many of them get it wrong, and you are a particularly pompous member of that group.
Yeah, sure you tell the truth. Other than the twisting of words, unsubstantiated smearings of people and making stuff up out of thin air, I suppose you do. I also couldn't help noticing how fast Russell transformed himself in a week's time from lazy and incompetent into improved and learning his craft. What a remarkable turnaround! But thanks for sharing the truth with us, you beacon of honesty, you.
If it was my company you continually badmouthed I'd try to make your job as difficult as possible too. I've said it too many times Cohn--Tell me something I don't know! Another article explaining that Al is the problem is very lazy, redundant journalism. I'm not saying there's no truth to it, I'm just saying if I need to know what color the sky is I'll go outside and look at it. I don't hate you. I hate that you criticize people who do a job you can't. You talk about the "tough guys" protecting their egos, what about the snooty, tea drinking, laptop totting intellectuals who act like they know more than the guys who do it for a living. But, like you, I can no longer have an objective opinion because I'll never forget reading your article following the loss to the Patriots, after sitting through the entire wet, cold, miserable ordeal and being called a "sucker".
I hope the Niners ban you next. All of a sudden Mike Martz is a hero. Martz calls the plays Singletary gets the credit. The Niners would not have been in a position to win if not for singl. because Hill would not have been in the game and niether would the Niners. Two months ago you hate Martz and now he is a hero. How did you end up at the Press Democrat? You need to be banned from writing.
The PressDemocrat should save 20k a year and fire this drunk! Nobody reads his crap anyway.
If he wants to continue to bad mouth the Raiders, maybe he should move to Denver!
It's pathetic that you would try to steal the Glory, after having seen the Raider's hand it to the Buc's. Don't you get it? Your the problem not the Raiders or their fans. Is this your mission in life? Don't cry now that you aren't welcomed amongst the Elite, this was a long time coming as far as I'm concerned.
You write the "truth" from your point of view. Look up pompous and arrogant in the dictionary and you will find Lowell's picture. Now if only the PD would delete you, we would all be better off.
This section is proof that Raiders fans read your column. If they didn't care or read you, you wouldn't see these comments. LOOK AT RAIDERJIM, CLASSIC IDIOT, right, he has been reading you for 20 YEARS and thinks you have a petty attitude. Why would this moron keep reading your column then? Common sense says that if you don't like it don't read it. I don't like the Bible, I read a little bit but I'm not the world's largest children's book so I haven't read it since. Aren't these people doing what the same thing as you, Mr. Cohn? Raiders suck (as usual) Cohn trashes them. Cohn sucks Raider fans trash Cohn. Raider Fans take bad football way to personal. By the way stop putting Raider emblems all over your car (windshield, hood, tailgate, rearwindow) it is trashy. Mr. Cohn some off your stuff is good but most of your columns suck I have to agree with everyone else.
A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE -- Wow, two wins at the end of a dismal season and RaiderNation folks are up in arms over criticisms of the organization.
This is one of the occasions when I am right next to Lowell Cohn, marching in step with his truth-telling. From Al Davis to JaMarcus Russell, the organization is putrid and deserves the criticisms that have been leveled.
Taking away email privileges from those writers who remain honest about the Raiders is just the most recent sign of incompetence.
I am not a Raider fan, never have been one. I just think Cohn is a poor excuse for a writer.
The reader writes I am a poor excuse for a writer. Fair enough -- everyone is entitled to an opinion. I'm just a humble sportswriter doing a job and I want to improve. I really do.
Would this concerned reader please explain in what way I am a poor excuse for a writer and how I can improve?
Some suggestions to get the reader started:
Cohn's sentences are too short.
His verbs are not active.
His similes don't sing.
He uses too many big words.
He uses too many short words.
He can't paint a visual picture.
He doesn't ask good questions in his interviews.
He doesn't know the basic rules of football and all other sports.
He doesn't know how to end an article.
He burns me up all the time.
He doesn't think professional athletes are heroes.
I don't know what he's talking about.
He's too New York.
He's too San Francisco.
He's too Oakland.
He's too old.
He's too too.
He likes red wine.
He doesn't give me that warm all over feeling.
He's not a fan like me.
He doesn't praise the Bay Area's losing teams, especially my favorite (fill in team name here).
So, that's a start. But please help me. I need all the guidance I can get.
He likes red wine. Probably a merlot drinker.
RAIDER FANS NEED TO STOP BLAMING COHN!
Or maybe Cohn is wrong?

Over the past 6 seasons you could have written 24 good things (out of 96) about the Raiders. I was right what a jerk, nothing nice to say.
Well next year you might have 4 good things to write about the Raiders, assuming Cohn is responsible for dismal streak.
"By the way, how's your mother?"
I am 38 years old, and have literally been a Raider fan all of my days. I grew up in Fremont and my family had season tickets for the Raiders since before I was born and continued until the team was moved to Los Angeles.
The only thing more disheartening than what's happened to my team, as judged by their play on the field these last several years, is what has apparently happened to its fan base, as evidenced by the responses to Lowell's work here. On both counts the words "sad" and "disgraceful" only begin to describe it. Shameful also comes to mind.
To Raider fans love Cohn,
Why would I read Lowell Cohn. He is entertainment. I simple said after reading him so long he has petty attitudes also. I did not say like a lot of the comments anything negative, just the basic truths, as I see it. You go on the attack, and are way off base. Lowell Cohn, like Pet Franklin (RIP) is entertainment, and Lowell should be flattered that his name would ever be mentioned with the great Pet Franklin.
Lowell,
You are my favorite writer. I look for anything you write, and have since you wrote for the Chronicle. You are funny, smart, perceptive, and have a unique voice. I wish you wrote more! I hope you can consider the source when you get mean-spirited comments. Write on!
good gawd my name is lowell and i'm really immature and insecure. I got this blog thing and people write me but I write back as a smug patronizing loser with a condescending smirk because it is what I am. Oooh booh hooh
What a bore.
Next.
hey lowell, great read! look you were quoted in the oakland tribune about those bad raiders keeping you off the bad email list! Jerry McDonald of the oakland tribune, a fine journalist, I call him jerrence! implied you were half witted, or to be blunt; half brained, sorry lowell, he said you got what you deserve, said you were lazy.
He is a bad guy, and is not a truth sayer!
" [Comment From Skloomsh]
Lowell Cohn wrote that he, Kawakami and Monte Poole aren't notified when the Raiders address the press because they 'tell the truth' about the team. That would imply that those who are notified, don't tell the truth. Do you have any thoughts on that?
3:41 jerrymac: There are guys occasionally kicked off e-mail lists for writing things the Raiders don't like. It's petty on the Raiders part, but it's also true anyone with half a brain contacts the beat writer and then finds out when the press conference is. You don't sit back and wait for the Raiders to tell you, or you deserve what you get.
