As of this writing, the 49ers have not announced a new offensive coordinator although, lord knows, they've interviewed enough candidates. According to my count, they've interviewed enough guys to fill Madision Square Garden. So I'm throwing my hat in the ring. Why not? Everyone else is.
These are my qualifications. Well, I have no qualifications. Neither do a lot of the guys they're considering. As far as I can tell Mike Singletary loves to interview people and he might interview till the end of time without actually making a hire. So my qualifications are that I'm too old, I've been out of football in the sense of never being in, I like the West Coast offense -- instead of that Ditka Bears stuff and I long for the Bill Walsh days and I'm a newspaper guy which means my job may end any day now. So I want the Niners to give me the OC job. I may stink at it, but I'd be better than what they've currently got -- which is nobody.
THE "SING" CLUB
LOL! Well all the "Sing" club is out in force again today! The same people who were so ecstatic that "Sing" was signed before he left the shower room after the last game as if he was so wanted! And these same people are here commenting day after day that a coach should only be signed after much Socrates like deliberation and contemplation by the York front office and "Sing."
So each day that goes by, these coaches interviewed say thanks but no thanks to the 49ers Organization. Then we read the pro "Sing" club attack who is the latest to give "Sing" the Bronx cheer and take the next flight out of town as fast as he can!
If it wasn't so sad it would be hilarious! But what is really hilarious is the "Sing" club daily singing the praises of some other coach they hope will join the "Sing" club and actually sign with the club. But they never ask the question that they don't want to hear the answer too. The question? What's the REAL CAUSE so many have turned their "Sing" down? Could it be his want to reinstate and 80's offense that is a replica of the Woody Hayes belief that 3 things happen when you pass, and 2 are bad and only 1 good ( a drop, an interception, and a completion.) So NEVER pass unless it's 3rd and 30!
Well, I'll continue to see the Yorks and "Sing" go farther down the list and the days pass and the coaches get out of town! And get a good laugh reading the "Sing" club diss another OC hopeful after his adios! So "Sing" club, keep up the good work! It's my Comic page everyday! And sooner or later someone who is desperate for a job in this economic climate will finally sign and then you guys can crown him the "most wanted OC in the League!" I'll have another laugh! And then we'll all have the sad part. Going to Candlestick to see a 49er team struggle to hit the 500 mark.
And next year the "Sing" club can find someone else to blame! Then my fun can start all over again!
Is Mike Martz available? he has a slid track record of success as an OC. Oh, wait...
here's something for Mike Singletary to jot down in that oft-discussed notebook of his: don't fire a successful guy from a top position on your staff unless you have someone better lined up. It doesn't give the impression that you don't have a clue, let alone a plan.

What a joke this so called search for a coordinator is. Singletary is the wrong man for the job!
Remember a month ago how terrible it was that the Niners "rushed" to hire Singletary as head coach, and now it's terrible that Singletary isn't "rushing" to get his offensive coordinator? Just asking. I realize that a lot of fans and quipsters have been traumatized by the whole Hostler thing, but not every potential OC is either Norv or Hostler.
Meanwhile, will Iggy take over the Cohn Zone if Lowell moves up to OC or will Iggy be the quarterbacks coach? And if the duel between Tim Kawakami and Don Nelson continues, will TK take over coaching the Warriors? Will Ralph Barbieri take over managing the Giants and save on childcare by employing his kid as batboy?
Now THAT was funny.
PLEASE LOWELL! Take the OC job! It's getting embarrassing! Just draft about 10 fullbacks! All you have to do is run the ball up the middle 3 times! And then take the blame when everything fails on the field! Always remember when things go bad it's "you" on your own! And when things work good on your part, it's "we!" (Sing and you)
Oh yea! Wear a loose fitting pair of pants!
