Matt Maiocco reports Linehan will take OC job with the Lions. That makes sense. Detroit is closer to St. Louis that Oakland.

All this makes me wonder. Where did the Oakland report come from? It was reported by reputable people. Things are always strange in Raiderville. Were the Raiders messing with the Niners? I'm getting a headache.

Lowell, this business with Linehan rejecting the niners, and then interviewing with Al Davis made no sense to me after he said he did not want to move his family. Did he know where Oakland was? He seemed like a buffoon. But by taking the Lions(?) job, he may be showing intelligence after all, because that team can do absolutely no worse than they did last year, so there is no place to go but up. Great move on his part!

So Reeves for the OC job? He might not be a bad fit but how long would he be willing to stay? I thought one Singletary's keys was finding someone to stick around a few years. Since he's 65 (and any NFL coaching job is very demanding) I have to wonder what is going on. I'm sure he could handle it but what's your take on if he can relate to the younger players now etc.

Fred, I think Reeves could be a perfect transition OC. He's not going to leave for a head coaching spot so he can stay for a few years, and he could mentor Rathman into being the OC. If it works right we could have real stability on the offense's coaching staff.

As for Linehan, he would have done better than to be using his family as an excuse, whatever the real reason was.

As for the Raiders, maybe the Linehan story was a shot back at the Niners for grabbing Rathman. But if they're just doing things for spite when they've got no coaching staff they are even more screwed up than even I could imagine.

Lowell? It seems to me, reading all the comments day after day about the 100 or so OC's the 49ers are supposedly interviewing, that some of the comments from 49er fans are consistent! They want to believe that Sing, McC and Jed really know what their doing. I'm a doubter because of past performances from the front office. And that now includes the shot gunned hired, inexperienced Singletary.
It surprises me how these people are in heaven when the OC's are first mentioned, then they attack the men when they refuse the 49er offers. I believe the candidates refuse because they have the experience of knowing a bad smell at first wiff. I mean take Linehan for instance. He was THE MAN at first. He decided to take Detroit(?) over the 49ers. And now he's a "loser!?"
Doesn't his picking Detroit and the mess they have say volumes about the 49er front office? It stinks!
Sorry! But that's how this 49er fan sees it. No matter what happens, from their past record of accomplishments, the 49ers of today have big problems!

Hi Bob: You know you could be right. Personally I'm sick of rebuilding and it seems like we have been doing that forever. But realistically, I don't know if this team has the right talent at the skill positions for the long haul. QB in particular is an open question, as is wide receiver. We might be more competitive but I don't see us making a deep run in the playoffs anytime soon. With that said, that's why Dan Reeves troubles me. Will he be here in 3 to 4 years or will we see more change? Rathman might be OC material and then he might not. Seems like a risky bet.
