Shame on the Oakland A's. This afternoon they're holding the 20th reunion for the 1989 championship team, one of baseball's great teams. Recently, the Giants held the reunion for the team that lost to the A's in the World Series.
The Giants made a big fuss over the occasion and got a great turnout of players. The A's will have 11 or 12 players depending on whether Rickey H. shows up. This is pathetic. The A's don't honor their past and they do things in an amateurish way. They should be ashamed. As recently as a month ago they didn't even have a firm date for this event and they invited players too late for some to change plans. Eck won't be here. Dave Parker won't be here. The Giants had their deal set up in the offseason. What a poor show by the A's. I will be there later and will tell you how it goes. To read my column on the A's shame click here.
The Giants do a great job of linking their past and present. Kruk and Kuiper help. The reception former
giants get, great, average, or relatively mediocre,
doesn't seem to matter to Giants' fans.
The connections to the past are a real strength of the Giants organizaion, and the polar opposite of the A;s
have the A;s been much more successful on the field than the Giants? yep.
Are they are more enjoyable franchise to follow over
the years? no.

I was a HUGe A's fan for years! But the last years completely lost me and many others!
I haven't watched as A's game in three years! The club has been an embarrassment to the Bay Area because of their egomaniac GM and owners!
I don't watch because they've become little more than a Minor League team for other winning teams! If they have a player that is young and full of talent...off he goes to one of the winners! Always for money or for some draft choice that the team can build into a good talent, and then repeat the same with him as written above! It's been too disgusting to watch now and I give up!
Besides obtaining old has beens and the keeping of lousy players that are hurt EVERY season, they've found a niche in the cellar of baseball! And they DESERVE to be there!
After watching good teams that believed they failed unless the playoffs were reached, it's too much to look at this scam being played on the fans year after year! But not me!
Everybody can complain about Charlie O. all they want, but he brought 3 World Championships to Oakland! These scam artists expect fans to go to their games? Not me! I've had it until these snake oil salesmen leave town.
You know Terry you sound a lot like many Raider and 49er fans. If face you replace the name "A's" with either the 49ers or Raiders you almost could say the same things word for word. How sad is that?
exactly how I feel...........I go back to 1972, and the LaRussa years. Did Charlie O and the Haas family use low attendance in Oakland and the ballpark as an excuse for not doing all they could for the fans, and doing what it takes to put a World Championship team on the field...no. Low attendance and a poor ballpark are not an embarassment to baseball in Oakland, but Lou Wolfe and Billy Beane's approach to running the team is.........
