Mike Singletary made an adjustment in his God talk. When he met the media after today's win over the Rams he said, "I'm thankful for the win. I thank God for our coaches and players."

This was an interesting and important adjustment and I'd like to think I led him to it.

He did not thank God for the win. He merely expressed gratitude for the win. He thanked God for the people around him. I think that was a nice way to put things and it keeps him away from the logical inconsistencies of thanking God for a win. Thanking God for a win implies he thinks God favors him over people on the opposing team; it also seems arrogant -- that Singletary is God's favorite.

By what he said today Singletary is laying off the God's favorite stuff. I'm glad I helped him come to a more reasonable perspective and I'm glad he adopted it.

Howdy Lowell,
And, if I'm not mistaken, Singletary was NOT wearing his cross on a necklass openly outside his 49er gear today. Maybe he realizes that God wants all the small "c" christians, agnostics, atheists, muslims, jews, and buddhists to remain 49er Faithful.
Meanwhile, offensivie line remains the only glaring weakness.
This line continues to struggle with the run and the pass.
Another note: on Comcast post game, nearly all team members interviewed spoke decent standard English as we should expect anyone who attended and passed university classes for three to four years. That is another reason to cheer for the Niners.

Lowell, Singletary never thanked God for a win. It never happened. As he told Ralph & Tom, he nevery prays for victory and never thanked God for a victory. Wow, no wonder Bill Walsh thought you were so annoying. By the way, how goes your lawsuit to get "In God We Trust" removed from the national currency? ...see, others can make up things about you, too...

Rich, You're absolutely wrong. I don't care what Singletary told Ralph and Tom. I have him on tape thanking God for a win. Lowell

Singletary at his most God-talkedyness is a hundred times less offensive than Kurt Warner. I can only guess that the Great Gal in the Sky has shifted her favors from the desert to the Bay Area.

Ok, if you have it on tape, then by all means do what you must to show he is truly a...what?

Why do you find it so inmportatn to knock a man who loves God. I wished you where more of a journelist than an advocate.

Maybe, you can answer why you found it so important? We are 3-1. He just wins. I guess he could knock people out or give thanks to people like you who, really contribute anything to the Team, or the Fans.

All I know is that he is a Christian anjd he makes me proud to see a man stand firmally on what he believes in. You could learn something from him, if you would just wake up and pay attention.

God Bless

Right on Lowell! Try to make everyone forget about our 3-1 record. Make everyone think and talk about your misplaced sense of self-righteousness. You made Singletary change his way of thinking to what's best for you. Good for you! If you honestly take satisfaction in anything that has to do with Singletary's post game comments, then you are truly pathetic. And I'm not even a religious man!

Cohen -

Keep your religion out of my sport.

There is nothing wrong with thanking God for a win or a loss, both have value in the big picture. Wins help us know we have improved or reached a goal, while losses humble and allow us to see weaknesses and where we need help. Both are important in life and both are from the hand of God. Sometimes we think that those who are most successful in life (winners) are somehow blessed by God or are "God's favorites" according to Cohn. But this couldn't be true because often the most miserable people in life are those who are successful and rich.

Lowell

There is something sick in your obsession with Christian speak.

You never understood what Sing meant and perhaps you may never.

Either way, you seem to be proclaiming some kind of victory here. Sorry Lowell, you may be the biggest loser I have read in a long time.

Next question for Singletary. Does he, like most fundamentalists, think those who are aware of Jesus and do not cleave to him. will go to hell? Does he believe his players and 49er fans who are not Christian will go to hell?

Seriously Lowell, you're just coming off as pathetic with this article. You're not a dog begging for someone to pat you on the head, don't act like one.

Lowell:

ALthough I am not a Christian -- I find your repetitive comments about Singletary to be quite offensive. I have listened to many of his press conferences and I do not find his references to God to be excessive.

Every day I hope that I can be understanding and sympathetic regarding people's beliefs. I have reached the end of my understanding, however, when it comes to your ongoing jhahad against people expressing their beliefs.

Not impressive Lowell.

Lowell, in the Chronicle, Bruce Jenkins iterated a recent conversation you had with Ira Miller. Is he, Ira, still writing? If so, do you know how one of his most avid readers might gain access?

Please advise.

"Thanking God for a win implies he thinks God favors him over people on the opposing team; it also seems arrogant -- that Singletary is God's favorite."

Seems kinda arrogant? Are you serious? Is it wrong for a man to just sit back & say "Thank you God?"

Arrogant is "I want to thank myself for this win." Right?

Explain your "inconsistent logic" on this one.

Couldn't you find something else to write about? Seriously Lowell, you should apologize for writing this.

Cause whatever Sing is doing, is working.

Very interested to hear your thoughts.

Lowell,
I rarely support your words but sometimes after I think about your position I beleive you are taking I can strip out the senstionalism and agree with you.
In the case of Sing + cross + thanking God for anything...I can only say if that happened in my office the man would be reprimanded and later fired if it presisted. No one denies the man his personal beliefs but he has to be careful about superimposing his beliefs on those he has influence over. Should those who work for him with a differnt faith be fired, forced to lie publicly, be given equal time? What if he thanked Allah for the win? Nice sentiment but how wouod that fly?

I didn't know God watches football? Does God watch baseball too?

Thank God for giving us Lowell Cohn!...er, wait, sorry, Lowell... Lowell Cohn is a real godsend!...Ooops! did it again!!! Sorry...Whenever I fell down I count my blessings, including reading Lowell Cohn. ARRRGGGGHHHH!! What's the matter with me? Why am I being so offensive? Please! Forgive me...AIIIIEEEE I DID IT AGAIN...Wait, wait, I've got it..."I'm grateful for Lowell Cohn!" Whew! Finally I got it right. Right, Lowell?

The point is that faith in the workplace is unacceptable yee ignorant masses. Simply because he espouses the most common religion in America does not make it acceptable, even more so given that his job affords him a pedestal to stand on in the media.

And Lance, just so you know, I still can't stand you or the drivel you spew. Some of the richest people in life are also the happiest. It's a case of nature vs. nurture. Some lotto winners are extraordinarily happy, mostly because they are intelligent enough not to piss away their winnings. Those stories are boring and don't get written. Some poor people are also quite happy, they are aware of their situation and make the best of it. Really Lance, every I read what you write, I feel as though some part of my brain just died.

Hopefully he leads you to something someday, Lowell...
