In this blog I have been hard on Michael Vick and Larry Johnson. I wrote that Vick should be banned from the NFL. I suggested Johnson should get fined and suspended.

Some Zohn readers commented today on my apparent lack of balance. If I want Vick banned why not Johnson as well? A group in KC wants Johnson banned because of his anti-gay remarks.

I won't get into Vick again -- my thoughts have been well-documented. But why would I go easier on Johnson than Vick and why don't I want the people in KC to ruin his career?

Maybe I am being inconsistent but I'll try to explain. Vick killed dogs, killed them over a period of years. He also broke the law.

Johnson made a few nasty and insensitive remarks. I don't think killing and talking, in this case, are the same. Johnson did not break the law and I think Johnson can learn from what he did. I also think he's paying the price right now with a suspension and a fine. With Vick I think he paid a price but I don't think he deserves to be in the league. Frankly I don't care what happens to him. I think Johnson deserves a second chance -- especially if Vick got one.

So that's my best explanation of how I feel.

You cant just ban people. These are human beings we are talking about.

Just think about all the people that you hurt because you want to ban Vick, his children, his wife , his mother, his father, his grand parents and aunts and uncles that I am sure all benefited from him financially.

Are you willing to look at his 5-6 year old daughters and tell them that they must live a life financial ruins because of their fathers mistake ( I understand that it is a heinous crime, I am not discounting that at all ), but his children should suffer for rest of their lives with hunger pains and inadequate lives??

That's the result of your abandonment, its not only him, its a lot of people. We have become a such a throw away society and its really concerning and painful to watch.

It started with cheap VCRs and cameras and now its leading to human beings.

Now if he made the same mistake twice then you can throw the book at him, but after one mistake people and their families should not be condemned to a long, slow and painful deaths.

Put yourself in his shoes, would you like it if Iggy at age 5 had to look in dumpsters for food to eat because you did something wrong ( little extreme, I know, but trying to make a point ).

People are not $59 cheap Korean VCRs.

Vick left college early for financial reasons, like most do. He wanted to get his family out of the apartment they were living in. I can respect that. But I can't feel pity for him because he chose to break the law, and by doing so he put his lucrative job at risk, and his family's financial security. By the logic you're using, it's everone but Michael Vicks fault that his family was at risk of living a inadequate, hunger stricken life. He could've stayed in school and graduated to make sure he'd be equipped for a secondary career if football didn't work out. He could've lived a law abiding life. There's a number of alternate scenarios other than living like a gangster and killing dogs. If his family was the most important thing in his mind he'd have made some better choices.

Ridiculous comments Fishlips.

The only two alternatives are starvation or millions in the NFL?

Vivk could still earn money in football. The CFL would probably love to have Vick. He wouldn't make milliions, but he could live comfortably.

I do not think Vick should be banned, but trying to extend Vick's crime to Iggy eating in dumpsters and Korean VCR's is just farcical.

According to Fishlips, Vick kills dogs for financial gain and he shouldn't be banned from a making a living in the NFL because he has a family that must be considered. Ok, fine! However, Cable is accused by an ex-wife and girlfriend of abuse and Fishlip wants him fired. I guess Cable's wife and children aren't any good!

Vick served his time. He has suffered tens of millions of dollars of financial losses due to his cruelty & idiocy.

Time to let it go. He is getting the second chance all of us deserve.

As far as Larry Johnson? Freedom of speech applies to everybody and that means freedom of stupid speech as well.

"By the logic you're using, it's everyone but Michael Vicks fault that his family was at risk of living a inadequate, hunger stricken life"

Maybe I am missing something in my own writing, but where did I say its everyones fault by Vicks??

Contrary to that,he committed an awful act, he went to prison for 2 years ( a year longer then the Eagles wide receiver that killed a PERSON ).He lost his job with the Falcons and had to file bankruptcy once he was out of the prison. At what point would you say its enough?
He should just be banned from everything and not be able to support himself and his family??
My original respond wasn't about making excuses for Vick, I personally never liked him, I was responding to the fact that we have become a throw away society, one strike and you and whole family are condemned to hell.

Maybe I am just naive , but at the same time I rather be this way then to be so callous and dismissive of other people lives.

Captainblack,

I know your reading comprehension is very low so perhaps you should read things two-three perhaps four times so you can understand them better.

Where in any of my responses have I ever said that Cable should be fired ??? I have never said that once, on the contrary, I dont think he should be fired.

If he gets fired, he'll just go home and collect a huge paycheck on his contract. If anything he should keep his job and be forced to answer questions and be embarrassed for his actions so he wouldn't do it again. He should have to go to anger management classes and have to work at battered women shelters to see what devastation these acts of cowardliness does to the physical and Psyche of a battered woman and their children.

Go back and read everything a few times, or better yet, have someone read them and explain them to you.

I have no comment for you, you've missed everything

fishlips, i appended a comment yesterday to you and captainblack on one of his comments. perhaps you didn't see it. so here goes: please elevate your dialogue. you are an important and respected contributor to my blog but i hope you won't resort to personal attacks. i want to keep the level of discourse elevated and concentrated on issues. thanks. lowell

Me and everyone else I guess . . .

I understand that you are trying to make a comparison, albeit a weak one, to the disposable nature of our society.

The problem is that your argument is a joke. Presenting the only options as Vick plays in the NFL or Vicks family is condemned and starves is a classic falacy (false dilemma). Vick can earn a living in other ways, just like 99% of us do. He won't make millions, but he can earn a living. His life is not being thrown away, and his family is not being forced to starve. It Lowell lost his job, I am sure he would find another way to provide for his family. Acknowledging that there are other options makes your comparison to the disposable nature of Americans irrelevant.

For the record, I don't believe that Vick or LJ should be banned. Vick did his time and LJ is an idiot, but if there job wants to continue to employ them that is their decision. I do think they should both be out of the league due to their ability, or lack thereof, to help their teams, but that is another argument.

Your comment that if he cant be a QB in the league, he could just do something else, is a joke.
Take the time to drive around the ghetto part of your town and see how many people are just walking in the streets with no jobs or money. How many families are on food stamps so their kids could eat, or write to local newspapers Santa Fund, so they can give their children a present for christmas. And thats just the ghetto part of town.In this day and age, that scene is being played at almost every neighborhood across America.
Are you saying that all these people are lazy and just dont want to work to provide for their families? And you, Cohn and Vick can find a job at a drop of a hat? Are you telling me that there is no one person in this country that is looking in dumpsters for food because all of our soup kitchens are operating beyond capacity and all the shelters are full to the brim?

Even what you say is true, this man has the god-given talent to be one of the top 50 QBs in the world ( at the time of his arrest top 10 ) and earn millions and millions of dollars, but Lowell can sit on his high horse with his black marker and draw a circle around his name and ban him from doing so.

He committed a crime (albeit, an awful and incomprehensible one to you and I ), lost millions of dollars, missed two years of his childrens lives (birthdays, christmas, Thanksgivings) and his own that he will NEVER get back and.
But all that is still not enough.

I thought we are a country of great heart and understanding. Our willingness to give people a second chance in life is well documented. But perhaps that only goes for our politicians, doctors, pastures or rabbies, god forbid someone screw with our high standards of what we think our football players should be.

If you cant see my point, lets respectfully agree to disagree before I get chastised by Lowell.
Although he finds it OK to throw someone to the curb and destroy everything they ever worked for in life, god forbid I tell another person that they are a wacko ( not you, just another wacho that I cant mention by name ).

Fishlips implied Tom Cable was abusive based on a media story he read. I have sentenced him to life without parole in cyber prison. The charge, well, I wont say stupidity, but I have my reasons.

Fishlips said about Vick, "Even what you say is true, this man has the god-given talent to be one of the top 50 QBs in the world" Top 50 QBs in the world? After the first 32, who cares.

"He committed a crime (albeit, an awful and incomprehensible one to you and I ), lost millions of dollars, missed two years of his childrens lives (birthdays, christmas, Thanksgivings) and his own that he will NEVER get back." Fishlips hasn't heard of free will. Poor Mikey...he's a victim of his own greed. It's society's fault. No, it's Lowell's.

"albeit, an awful and incomprehensible one to you and I." Fishlips should have written, you and me.

First of all, the media got part of their story about Cables abusive behavior from court documents. If those court documents were falsified, and are being retracted by the first wife, then charges should be brought up against the first wife ( or the second or third wife, be honest with you there are so many complaints about physical abuse against this clown that I dont know which one is which at this point. nor do I care to go look them up ).

As far as your comment about who cares about the top 50 QBS, only the first 32 count .Well you should CARE, Jamarcus Russell (your QB) is the 33rd rated QB.So out of 32 qbs that YOU THINK SHOULD ONLY COUNT, your hero is 33rd; here is the link.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/passing/sort/quarterbackRating.

And now you want to put me in cyber prison ? You go ahead and make yourself happy and put me in cyber prison !!
I am assuming you really think you are a real sorcerer and have real magic powers when you play DUNGEON AND DRAGON.

I hope the heck that you are 12 years old, your behavior as an adult is really embarrassing.

You know the old saying,"Better to shut up and be thought of as a fool, then.....
