Al Davis should fire Tom Cable. The Raiders are entering a bye week and this is a good time to get rid of him.
Of course, in the big picture, the Raiders' misery is not strictly Cable's fault. It's Davis'. Still, 2-6 at the bye stinks and coaches with records like that need to go. All this negative publicity Cable is bringing the team with his personal life doesn't help.
Davis has a choice with Cable. Fire him now or wait until the end of the season. It's a crummy choice, but that's how it goes. I say fire him now.

...and put Randy Hanson in as head coach.
Why fire Cable?
He is not the reason you are failing.
Also, who else are you going to hire? The next Tom Cable?
Al is the problem. From his crappy drafts to calling plays from his booth, he won't allow the team to be successful. No one worth a damn is ever going to take the job so you, so you have Cable.
Al Davis can't fire Cable.
Nobody in their right mind would go to work for Al, especially not in the middle of this year. Al would end up having to bribe the equipment manager to take over as coach.
I say fire him at the end of the season.
It this point it doesn't really matter. Al should just have a raffle at every game, even away games. Just call out a seat and let that person--man, woman, child or infant--coach the game. Let the next eight games be an open audition, because I guarantee whoever coaches this team in the future will be another guy we've never heard of that Al picks from obscurity. He'll be unqualified but he'll have something that Al likes, maybe a nice cologne and a fresh haircut, whatever. I'm making a pact with myself. I will not attend another game until this team finishes a season with a winning record.
Al needs to fire Al. Then fire Jamarcus, a total blunder too.
Lowell,
This is why I respect you, you have the moral clarity to say what needs to be said.
P.
Interesting dilemna. I know the team is stinking up the joint, and Al can probably fire Cable on merit, but if he fires him based on his violent past (recent and historic), could the Raiders be setting themselves up for yet another lawsuit? Cable, rightly or wrongly, is not going to be prosecuted for the jaw breaker incident with Hanson, tho he likely will be hit with a civil suit. He has never faced a judge with regards to violence against women - tho he has admitted to slapping one of his wives. Would Cable even want to sue the Raiders for terminating him and subject himself to a court battle where all his dirty laundry would be on display (sorry, really bad image....)?
I think Al is already searching for the next contestant on "Who is desperate enough to be a Football Coach", (now that would be a good reality show), and Davis will likely fire Cable after some of this blows over and the Raiders end the season no better than 5-11. Cable will then move into Pro Wrestling and take on the name, Tom 'Jawbreaker' Cable, and get the snot knocked out of him by the Divas. For real.
Here's what Tom Cable should do.........resign immediatley........ and begin a lucrative career as a Sumo wrestler.
I announced Sumo on NHK television in Tokyo for almost 10 years. Those guys are big tough bastards with beautiful girlfriends. Cable couldn't clean the toilets in the Kokogikan Sumo stadium.
Fire Al
Hanson didn't only get a busted jaw, he lost his job, and the longer Al keeps Tom the deeper Randy is going to get into Al's pockets. Maybe Mr. Davis' legal dept. is telling him differently, but they are probably like his coaches, they do and say as he does and says, "Yes sir Mr. Davis." Worst of all, Al has lost all respect for the players. Maybe Russell could have been a good QB, but nobody can play well for this team, no matter how dedicated. The other team owners should vote him out of the league and if he doesn't sell by the end of the season, the team gets tossed out with him.
